Freddie Mercury has always been considered larger than life, and a 15-foot bronze statue of the late Queen singer has helped add to that perspective for the past eight years from its regular home in front of the Dominion Theatre in London's West End. The 15-foot bronze Freddie was on the move this week from London to Liverpool, where the Liverpool Echo reports it has arrived in the city to celebrate the hit Queen and Ben Elton musical, "We Will Rock You", which will run at the city's Empire Theatre in September. The London landmark, to which thousands of fans flock yearly to pay their hero a visit, is sure to turn heads in the famed hometown of The Beatles; it will tower above shoppers on Paradise Street until the end of June to help promote the musical. The statue was originally intended to stand on the canopy at the Empire Theatre, but it was too heavy. In response to the appeal to "find Freddie a home", Liverpool One agreed to take him in. "We are delighted to welcome Giant Freddie", said Chris Bliss, estate director at Liverpool One. "The statue is iconic and we're sure shoppers and visitors to Liverpool One will be thrilled to see him here in the city centre." "Our city is often referred to as the World Capital of Pop", said Andrew Rawlinson, Liverpool Empire general manager, "so I think the bustling streets of Liverpool One will make a very fitting spot for Freddie. This show has audiences rocking wherever it goes and I'm sure Liverpool will be no exception." You can view the photo of Freddie Mercury here. Thanks for the report to Hennemusic.com.

Haha I laughed, even though it was kinda lame. Cool tribute, Freddie was one of the most natuarally talented frontmen and vocalists in rock.

Yeah I saw it too. I was 13 at the time and I remember wondering if it was actually him because the face just didn't look like it. Anyway, great tribute, nobody is more deserving than Freddie

Nice tribute to the man. I saw Queen in '78, at the Nassau Coliseum, LI, NY. They had just come off 2 nights at The Garden and they were incredible. Freddie and the band were at the top of their game, Bicycle Races just hit radio. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.

Freddie was not only perhaps the greatest Londoner ever, or even British person ever, but he was the greatest human being ever. He needs a permanent statue in London to honour him.

Me and my friend saw it today, it does certainly gain attention- the irony was that five minutes before me and my friend were singing Bohemian Rhapsody, turned round the corner and it was just THERE.=)

I think the statue tours with the show We Will Rock You. I saw it in Toronto in '08. It was right on top of the theater. The show itself was awesome, I highly recommend any Queen fans to go see it. It's essentially a kickass rock show packaged as a musical.

Honestly, go to Montreaux,Switzerland. On the edge of Lac Leman, there's the most awesome Freddy Statue ever. It's in the city's postcard. Plus it's the city where Smoke on the Water was written. Nothing Beats Montreaux.
