Geoff Tate Forms A Second Queensryche?

The former Queensryche singer is listed on a festival lineup as Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate, raising the posibility of two different versions of the band existing at one. WTF?!

Geoff Tate Forms A Second Queensryche?

If you thought the Queensryche drama would settle down until their court case continued in November, you were wrong. Despite previous reports which said the remaining members had "won" rights to tour under the Queensryche name, it seems things weren't that simple. After listing his personal website as "Geoff Tate: The Voice of Queensryche", he is also billed on the lineup for Monterey International Festival as Queensryche Starring Geoff Tate. The remaining three members and their new frontman Todd La Torre had briefly performed under the moniker Riding West until July when they defeated Tate's call for a preliminary injunction to prevent them touring as Queensryche. They recently hit the stage as Queensryche at the Halfway Jam in Minnesota. When they return to court in November, Tate will argue that he was wrongly fired from the band and that the Queensryche name has been tarnished because of their actions, according to Blabbermouth. Despite the ongoing drama, Tate recently told That Metal Show that he wants to talk out their problems face to face: "I'd like to sit in a room with those gentlemen and have them tell me face to face what the situation is. Explain their actions. I'd like to know and actually understand their point of view. I'd like to see them talk to me face to face rather than through the internet." Which form of Queensryche will you support? Is one more "official" than the other? Share your perspective in the comments.

Anyone else thinks he looks like Bald Bull from Punch Out in that pic?

If he were "the voice of Queensryche" (which I DO believe), then simply billing himself as "Geoff Tate" should suffice. Did Bruce Dickinson have to tour as "Bruce Dickinson, the Voice of Iron Maiden" for his solo albums? I'd go see Geoff sing QR songs either way, but I'd have more respect if he could just open a new chapter and build a reputation on HIS OWN NAME and MUSIC, and stop with the whole "I AM Queensryche" thing.

Queensryche was a favorite band of mine for years, through Empire. I have always and still do believe that Geoff Tate is one of the best vocal talents that I have ever heard. However, the more he speaks the more I dislike him. It has come to the point now that I just think he is an ***** and wish he would just disappear.

Geoff gets to use the queensryche name for a year until everything settles. I doubt he'll get full rights. In honesty, I'm supporting the Todd La Torre Queensryche.

if we had to filter out our record collections based on who is / isn't a douche...pretty much the only band left would be RUSH. I don't particularly mind my favorite lead singers / bandmates being egocentric knuckleheads...as long as they can *still deliver*

They are all douches at this point, however I do agree with Tate that he was one of the main creative forces behind QR. The other was DeGarmo, who hasn't been with the band for over 10 years. So, you could reasonably assume that the other guys should not be touring under the QR banner. Wilton is credited with a handful of songs in the catalog, but it's mostly DeGarmo and Tate (later Stone, Slater, and Tate).

Oh no! TWO Queensryches!?!?!?!?!?!? What's up with all these tampon-munching prog-metal sissies lately? First Mike Portnoy, then most of Pain Of Salvation, now Geoff Tate. Sheesh.
