Get Ready For 'Rush Day' On 2-1-12

Get Ready For 'Rush Day' On 2-1-12
8
Last year, we were able to ring in "National Metal Day" on 11-11-11. Just a few months later, it's already time for another music holiday "Intergalactic Prog Metal Day" or "Rush Day" on 2-1-12, according to BraveWords. In celebration of Rush, their landmark album "2112" and all of the bands that have been influenced by Rush ever since, various radio stations, music stores and websites have special events planned. "Rush's 2112 is probably the first album that can rightfully be called progressive metal, so it's only appropriate we blast the album from the rooftops, from our cars, from our iPods, from everywhere, to celebrate this landmark album and Rush's incredible longevity and lasting influence," said Jeff Wagner, author of "Mean Deviation: Four Decades Of Progressive Heavy Metal". Plus, Wagner's got big plans for 2112 the year, not the album. "We're only a hundred years away now until 2112," he said. "I'll be waiting in my hypercube, ready for the big one!" Thanks for the report to Bryan Wawzenek, Gibson.com.

"2112 is not progressive metal.....it's progressive rock." "it's just music, so don't put labels on it" Lolwut?

Do Canadians write the date backwards aswell? I have Rush day on 21.12 every year in the UK.

I'm Canadian, I always write it as D/M/Y, so "2112 day is really 1/2/12 day.

Some people call AC/DC metal (I'm not one of them).

Yeah, when I see something from a culture that's not mine I dismiss it as dumb and stupid. Like those stupid Japanese with their up-to-down and right-to-left writing. They're just so damn stupid. Or those filthy spaniards and spanish speakers who pronounce "j" as "h". God, they're so different and wrong.

It's written the same way it's said. We say "February 1st, 2012," so when we shorten it to 2/1/12 they're both in the same order.

He's going to wake up and see the rebirth of dinosaurs that have evolved into dino-androids and the only living person left will be Nicholas Cage. I don't think this is that great of an idea, but whatever floats his boat.

It really doesnt matter man, who gives a FUCK how people write something as simple as the ****ing DATE. i put the date as 1-30-12. you write it as 30-1-12. Fancy mother ****ers write it like The 30th of January, 2012, with cursive writing and shit. Who ****in cares.

2112 is one of my favorite albums ever, and while you could venture to say it is progressive rock, calling it the first progressive metal record seems a stretch as King Crimson had already released multiple heavier, darker and more progressive records including but not limited to Red (1974).

I'm Canadian, and that's what I was thinking. I always write dd/mm/yyyy, so shouldn't it be December 21st?

I certainly wouldn't call Rush progressive metal, but the certainly had a massive influence on the genre. Looking forward to blasting it!

If you look at the range of possible numbers then americans actually do short/medium/long. 1-12 is smaller than 1-28(to 31) is smaller than 1-2012.

As a deadly dictator, you should ban the use of cursive I'm guessing. maybe you didnt catch my message. it doesnt matter how people write their dates. so the date is 2112, and people think its cool, and ill be listening to Rush, but seriously, if people argue about something as basic as writing the date, no wonder the world is heading for the toilet, or the throne, or the cold stool, or whatever the **** you wanna call it. and you know why people can write shit how they want it, because they ****in can. im gonna write my dates like 12-30-1. and who are you to say its wrong, a literacy teacher?
And you didn't read what I said. I said it matters with this article. That's it. I personally don't care how the date is written. You're right, the world is heading down the shitter, but in regards to this article, I'm guessing the date does matter. I never said it was wrong. Jeez, take some tylenol or something.

In Japan they have to wait another 9 years for this event. YY/MM/DD, or 21/1/2.

Or those stupid Hawaiians who only have the brain capacity for a 12-letter alphabet. Or the idiot Russians who write numbers as combinations of letters. I mean, seriously, anyone with non-Canadian standards is stupid obviously.

Perhaps, but when it was released it would have been considered very heavy, so I think it's ok to call it metal, just like I think it's ok to call King Crimson's "Red" metal. Labels are just ways of looking at things.

Why does it make more sense for the date to be read short-medium-long, while reading the time as long-medium-short?

FrauVfromPoB I have been taught from a young age that day/month/year is indeed the correct way to do it. In my American schools. In America. Where I grew up. I don't know what you're talking about.
Maybe all Americans aren't that stupid after all Even so, I feel quite proud of myself for the success my original post has had on all the comments made against this story. I think that counts as a successful troll.

I realized this the other day. February 1st is my birthday, so the fact that this one is Rush related is way awesomer.
