Ghost Frontman Unmasked by Behemoth's Nergal

Very strong indications that Tobias Forge is Papa Emeritus have been revealed.

Ultimate Guitar

Behemoth frontman Nergal has posted what seems to be strong evidence that Tobias Forge is in fact Ghost frontman Papa Emeritus.

The theory that Forge is the man behind Papa is not a new one, but the latest photo posted by Darski seems like a definite indicator that it was a legitimate claim all along.

So specifically, Nergal checked in from FortaRock festival, an event at which both Behemoth and Ghost performed, sharing an Instagram photo of himself and Tobias, along with a caption "If you have ghosts... U have everything;)"

Of course, "If You Have Ghost" is a clear reference to Ghost's Roky Erickson cover and title track of their latest cover EP.

"What we're trying to do, it's very hard to maintain," one of the Nameless Ghouls told Full Metal Jackie back in 2012. "If the actual goal was to not be known, we try to maintain that, but in the long run, we can't really expect that to be something everlasting. Most of our fans are actually quite keen on not knowing, which works to our favor, but I think there is a difference between people knowing who is behind the mask or being unmasked."

So without further ado, the nearly-definite evidence of Papa's true identity (and a major spoiler for some) awaits below.

I knew it. I knew he was actually Content Unavailable! That deceptive little bastard...
It's way cooler to keep it a secret.
Exactly. Remember what happened when Kiss took off the make up?
Imagine how much less hassle there would be in KISS if they never took off the makeup. We'd have never realised Ace and Peter were replaced. Unfortunately, Paul and Gene felt that their own faces were so f*cking important and that everyone had to know who they really were.
Yeah, turns out it's just "some guy", as expected. Dunno why people are so eager to know, the mystery is a lot more fun than the actual truth.
Many people are just too curious... Though I remember the lead singer of Ghost commenting about the lack of fame due to his anonymity.
Why some people are so ****ing keen on ruining the illusion of a band is beyond me. I don't see what gives? You get to idolize them more? Not really. You deserve it? Why? Let Papa Emeritus be Papa Emeritus.
We all kinda knew it was him, but I still don't see why this needed to happen. As long as he goes back to the charade and performs in full costume and all that, I don't really think it matters. Just don't be like "the secret's out, so we're not gonna bother with the tongue in cheek candles time shit anymore". That would ruin it. Just keep denying it with a smile on your face.
Thats like...something you should NOT do when it comes to metal music. Papa Emeritus and the Nameless Ghouls should NEVER have their identities revealed. That ruins their whole "gimmick" and stage personas.
I don't listen to behemoth and I allready knew about tobias, but **** this is a gay ass move.
They could focus on making better music instead of working on theatrics.
They can all stay masked, we know Papa is Tobias. Listen to Subvision. It's clearly the same singer and musicially that band and Ghost are very close. This doesn't ruin the stage show or their amazing music.
I can't believe in these poor rumours. The rumours about Tobias came along well before 2011. In 2012, Ghost announced a new vocalist, including performing a swap ritual on stage during Secular Haze in Köpling, introducing Papa Emeritus II with the 1st on stage, leaving his throne behind for the new pope. They've also said they are going to change vocalist for every new album or so. I saw their show in Bergen, Norway a little while ago, where the vocalist sounded completely different from an earlier show here in november or so, so who's to say they haven't changed already? All I know is, that couldn't be the Papa I saw the last time x)I know he has a light and beautiful voice, but this sounded like helium or something. It was first when he started communicating with the audience I noticed this was peculiar.Yet they still talk about Tobias being the vocalist. It's possible he was Papa Emeritus I. But I doubt present.
