Golden Gods 2012: The Winners

The kings of the rock world united for one night to celebrate the best artists in their genre. So who won an award and became a rock god?

Golden Gods 2012: The Winners
0
The third annual Golden Gods Awards took place in Los Angeles last night, and the rock gods were out in force to celebrate. Performances included a collaboration between "Riff Lord" winner Slash and Alice Cooper who played "School's Out" along with tracks from Slash's first solo album. Slash also played "11 seconds of noise" in memory of his friend Jim Marshall who died this week. Rush were given the lifetime achievement award by Tenacious D, who said Rush "has been blowing our minds and expanding everyone's definition of rock" for 40 years. Korn's dubstep album won the award for "Best Album", proving (perhaps regrettably) that dubstep is officially part of the rock mainstream. Slipknot won "Best Comeback" after the tragic death of their bassist Paul Gray, whose name is officially attached to the "Best Bassist" award which went to Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx. The event will be broadcast on TV on VH1 on May 28. Here's the full list of winners: Best Guitarist

This whole thing was a damn joke. I got all excited to watch it for the first time, thinking it was gonna be all "metal" and underground and crap, but it was all radio rock. How the hell do Black Veil Bitches beat Mustaine and Broderick? How does Nikki Sixx beat Ellefson? How is Gene Simmons the Golden God and finally, why did that filthy-ass Manson get to go on last like he's really somebody? There wasn't one god damn metal band on the whole show, aside from various "presenters" and I'll never waste my time on it again. Of course, the radio bands win all the awards. Then they want to turn around and complain about the Grammys? How the hell are you gonna have all five members of Anthrax and NOT have them play?

This is the single worst list of winners I have ever seen. I have officially lost all hope in music.

A reward called 'Riff Lord' and Tony Iommi wasn't even nominated? Screw this show. Still, yay for Rush.
      flip666sorry
this actually is the worst list ever. The trannys from the black veil brides winning best guitarist shows that this list was made by an elite panel of 13yo girls. Tomas Haake for best drummer ftw

...The ****? How in God's name did BVB even get nominated, let alone win? They're not even remotely in the same league as the rest of the nominees.

I watch this last night. I was think "finally a big show for metalheads" but what I watched was just disgusting. It made me feel ashamed for being a metalhead. The highlight of the show was Neil Peart, Yngwie & Trivium playing Creeping Death. The rest was horrendous. Black Veil Brides were horrible as expected but for their guitarists to beatMustaine & Broderick is just disgraceful. I was hoping for one true Metal guy like to apologise for all those shitty bands but it never came. Also Korn getting album of the year for a Dubstep album!!! Why? Oh Why? Also Dream Theater should of won the Best Comeback Award (Which is also a bullshit award because none of the bands in the category actually went away). They found a new drummer, released a successful album. Headlined The High Voltage Festival and Got their first Grammy Nomination. I'm sure Slipknot went through a rough time but they haven't really done much since Paul Gray died. Also X Japan winning best International Band.....I voted for Opeth on the voting page but then on the night they didn't even show up on the category. And if I remember correctly X Japan weren't even on the voting page.

      Thank you, sir.

What a load of shit. Dave Mustaine and Chris Broderick should have won best guitarists and Dave Mustaine should have been nominated and have won riff lord.

Psh. It barely recognized the true metal.

I can't even count how many facepalms I gave to this. Worship Music? The Path of Totality? Seriously? Let me tell you about a kick ass album released in 2011: Hisingen Blues. Not to mention other things like... Black Veil Brides... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Chris Broderick alone can break all the bones of both guitarists from this lame, asscore band.
      PatVanHalen5150
The only good result here is CM Punk. Slipknot over VH for best comeback? VH just released their first album with Dave in 28 YEARS. Slipknot members were still shitting in their diapers 28 years ago. BVB over Mustaine & Broderick for guitarists? (Facepalm) How many memorable riffs has Slash came up with compared to EVH? Spencer is easily the least competent drummer out of those nominated.
      hoovdiddy
This is absolute bullshit, how the hell did Chris Broderick get beaten out by the ***** from BVB, especially since he went to school to study the ****ing instrument plus no one from Anthrax won anything they were nominated for? I'm pretty sure at the very least Frank Bello should've won best bassist, and how was Alex Webster not even nominated for best bassist. The only thing I could only agree with were the ones A7X won, because they do put on a good show and they do have very dedicated fans, besides that, **** the Golden God Awards and **** the people who voted for those who won, none of them (besides A7X) deserve the awards they won
      metallica_102
I hate coming across as one of those metal elitists who only like "tru metal" but seriously this is a joke. Best guitarists go to BVB? Come on they're riffs are so generic it isn't funny.

Best Guitarist Jinxx and Jake Pitts (Black Veil Brides) WINNER* Zoltan Bathory and Jason Hook (Five Finger Death Punch) Willie Adler and Mark Morton (Lamb Of God) Robb Flynn and Phil Demmel (Machine Head) Dave Mustaine and Chris Broderick (Megadeth) Matt Heafy and Corey Beaulieu (Trivium)
"Hey guys, ya know what would be hilarious? If we give the award to the only nominees that ARENT any good!!!"
      HeavyMetalSonic
And it's quite pathetic how the Black Veil Brides "vocalist" had to comment on how everyone hates them. A respectable, talented band who puts out great music wouldn't need to say anything like that or even think it.
      maidenbridge666
I am a bit of an Alter Bridge fanboy I'll admitbut.... why is there no mention of them in best live band? no mention of Myles in best vocalist? Tremonti's 100000x the guitarist those fags from black fail brides will ever be and Myles is one of the best rock vocalists in the world right now!! i hate the world and i want to die....
      HeavyMetalSonic
They shows the clips from previous shows with Ulich, Halford, Ozzy, Ronnie James Dio, etc and this one was all emo and goth rejects. Totally disappointed.
      Wakisazhi
On the plus side at least X Japan finally got the recognition they've long deserved.

Don't loose hope in music, just the critics. But then again, when did critics ever get anything right to begin with?...
      Kenjamin91
Yeaaaaah kind of a bullcrap list of winners. For most of these categories I would've been happy with anyone BUT the actual winner. Especially the Best Bassists category. Sixx, Wolfgang, and Michael Anthony? You shittin' me? Anthony's a great backing vocalist but is by no means a fantastic bassist. I could go on, but I'm sure everyone feels the same way.
      Turi_the_Dragon
Seeing the results makes me glad I didn't watch it... Seemed like a total waste of time. I have problems with most of the winners but the fact that Korn won Album of the Year with a DUBSTEP album actually pisses me off

foREVer_bvb92 wrote: BEST LIST EVER!!!!! BVB totally deserved best guitarists. Really, any of the nominees in that category deserved it. But clearly BVB has more fans that voted. Us BVB (and A7x)fans are the larger demographic. Get used to it because this is the future and we're not going anywhere. And to all of you out there bitching about them, have you ever even heard the music? Probably not. Your probably just judging them based on their look. How many of you judging them based on look are Alice Cooper or Misfits fans? Have you ever judged them on their looks? It's all the same. You are no different than all the people who complained about those artists years and years ago. Looks can change, but the music is what stands the test of time. Moving on, to those of you pissed about A7X winning best live band and thinking that Judas Priest should've won, look up A7X's live shows because they blow Judas Priest out of the water. Judas Priest is a great band and I love them, but in terms of live performances, A7X has way more energy (which is most likely because they're younger) and they are more crowd pleasing, meaning that they interact with the crowd more and deliver a better SHOW. They don't just stand there and play the songs. Paul Grey was an ok bassist, but do your research before questioning why he should have an awrd named after him. He was the main song writer in SLipknot. He contributed the most to the band AND got them started. Without Paul Grey, there would never have been Slipknot. He was a talented musician, not just a bassist. However, what pisses me off the most is all of you calling us BVB and A7X fans little emo kids. We never go out and attack/make fun of you. We just keep to ourselves, listen to what we want to listen to, look the way we want to, and try to not cause issues. Maybe you should try doing the same thing and not judge us. You're nothing but a bunch of inconsiderate, ignorant bullies. Yeah, that's right you're just bullies. Many of us are probably depressed and "emo" because of you assh***s constantly judgin us, making fun of us, and degrading us. Would you like it done to you? I don't think so. So shut the F**K up and listen to your music, look the way you want to and we'll do the same. And next time you decide to judge or comment these bands we love, get your facts straight and be able to back-up your statements because just saying that they suck with no reason just makes you look like a whiney complaining baby. Thank you and f**k off =)
Being 13 is hard isn't it?

These winners are total jokes. The Golden Gods are just as bad as The Grammy Awards. The idea that a band like the Black Veil Brides even got nominated, let alone win, is mind-boggling.
      beineken
The category for bass is named after Paul Gray? Well, I guess no other deceased bassist is more deserving... EXCEPT CLIFF F***ING BURTON ARE YOU SERIOUS?!
      xzxw
****ing terrible winners. Sevenfold over Priest? Fucking stupid.
      fede01_8
"Paul Gray Best Bassist" seriously?! was he so great and legendary to deserve an award named after him? you can name 28 better bassist than him in 5 seconds

Can't tell if trolling or just doesn't know how good guys like Haake, Benante, Adler, Hawkins and Dailor are.

Damn, I would say Anthrax had the best album of the year, not that Korn dusbstep shit...
      nboyjn
black veil brides wins over megadeth? IN THE FUCKING BEST GUITARIST CATEGORY?!?! i dont wanna live on this planet anymore.... Next years golden god awards - BFMV's "scream aim fire" beats "master of puppets" in the classic album category

Just watch the Metal Hammer Golden Gods instead (if you are so outraged by this) as those awards are more underground and 'metal'. Therefore, much better
