Green Day knocked Bob Dylan off the top of the UK albums chart yesterday (May 17), going straight in at Number One with their new effort "21st Century Breakdown".

Dylan's album "Together Through Life" slipped to the Number Eight spot, with Green Day's album clocking enough sales since its release on Friday (May 15) to bag the top spot ahead of rivals including Maximo Park and Lily Allen.

I love the way everyone hated on American Idiot, even though I personally enjoy it, and most are enjoying this one...

Well, it's just okay, it doesn't deserve number 1 though, actually I think none of the albums on the top 10 do, except maybe Dylan

Such a friendly comment board Good album, got it the day it came out. I definitely love old Green Day, but the new stuff is good too, in a different way. I kind of feel like this album and American Idiot were meant to be heard more as an album than as individual songs.

Since when would any old school punk band write what Green Day have on this album?

actually in an interview billie joe said that know your enemy really was written in about five minutes. And i couldn't love the song or the album more.

21 guns is the best song on the album, 21st century breakdown and know your enemy are annoyingly repetitive...but good album. better than american idiot.

Its better than most the other albums on there. Theres probably 2 albums that are listenable.

Personally, I find this news entirely shameful to the music world. Now, I'm not a fan of Green Day, at all, however, I will give it to them, they have a good fan base. The music... eh, kind of makes me want to vomit. How they could top Dylan on the charts is beyond me, but I could see how they could be up there. I still think that Bob Dylan deserves his place at #1. But then again, the Billboard Charts aren't really a reflection of skill or how good the music really is, it's merely a reflection of album sales.

charts are not representative of real music. just people who think they are music fans.

I disagree; I believe Green Day is a great band. I believe that technically skilled musicians wouldn't use them exclusively.

i thought it was a really great album.. especially compared to american idiot .. its constructed alot better and the songs are just great

What? This is really the greatest album i have ever heard. And only people who haven't heard All of the album said Know Your Enemy was the worst song. The worst song by !!!!!FAR!!!!! was See The Light. That song sucked seriously. The only bad thing about this record at all. My favorite is Horseshoes and Handgrenades.

I heard Know Your Enemy and the 1st thing i thought of was how bad it repeated.21st Century Breakdown was good but sounded just like Jesus of Suburbia, but im sure it has even better stuff on it than that.

So there is also only one holiday too? by Madonna? Only one Modern World by the Jam? get over it.

yea i'm pretty sure the most forgetful person in the world won't forget the name of the song after only hearing it once.

A five year old? I hardly doubt so... If you're going to try to diss them, at least be intelligent and don't pull crap out of your a$$. And there is no resemblance to AC/DC here. Sure, there are power chords, but about EVERY BAND ON EARTH has used power chords. Wow. I agree. The world disappoints me, too.

Dude. It's Green Day. That's the structure of... Well... Every song they do. Or ever have done. Ever.

I'm no fan of GD, nor will I ever buy this album (or download it, for you semantics majors), but man, "21 Guns" is a freaking catchy song!

Green Day made an album they wanted to make. It's melodies are incredible, and the fact that the album tells a story is something that every songwriter should be envious of.
Are you kidding me? Concept albums are hardly new, and most of them have much stronger stories than this. Listen to Dream Theater's Scenes From a Memory, Queensrche's Operation: Mindcrime, or even Bathory's Blood on Ice, then talk to us about concept albums.

I can't wait to get this album! I still listen to American Idiot all the time; Jesus of Suburbia is probably my favorite off that one. I haven't heard anything from this one yet, though... Hopefully I can get it soon!

I hat most of the new "punk" scene crap but the two songs I have heard off of this album were awsome. probably gonna buy it sooner or later

Im with you, it sucks that actually talented bands spend months writing songs, and then a bunch of antsy retards can discover three chords, and use them to write an album in the amount of time it takes me to do a shit.....

I think they deserve it. It's a great album. I don't really like Know Your Enemy, but songs like Viva La Gloria and 21 Guns are pretty great. Oh, and can we not call it a punk album? Not that it isn't great music, it's just not punk. Pop punk, maybe.

its topping charts because of the name "Green Day". would make no difference if the album was shittest thing ever or greatest thing ever it was always gonna sell well. its their first album in five years. and from what i've heard its not bad
