Just a few days ago it was announced - to the dismay of many fans - that Killswitch Engage's longtime vocalist Howard Jones would no longer be a member of the band. Howard, who was a member of Killswitch Engage for nine years, personally addressed his departure and revealed some of the reasons behind it.

"Well, I guess I will she'd a little light without going too deep," Howard posted on Killswitch Engage's official website, www.killswitchengage.com. "As some of you may know, I've had a pretty interesting couple of years to say the least battling with some personal issues. One of the low points being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes that went unchecked for years. The rest of the band stuck with me through it, and to be honest they are the ones that kept me going. The whole experience definitely put a scare in me."

"Recently we've all been in writing mode but somehow I couldn't get excited about the new album and all the touring that would go with it. The guys saw it before I did. In hindsight I now realize that my heart wasn't in it. I have had an amazing decade with KSE. I love Justin, MikeD, Joel and Adam for hanging in there and standing by me no matter how bad it was. I have so many good memories, and those are the ones that I will keep."

"Will I be involved in music again? Sure, I have been in bands for a little over half my life, can't stop now. Until then, get the new KsE album, it's going to be good. Thanks everyone for letting me try to entertain you, and I wish myself well in my future endeavors. Gone fishin' Howard."

The group suggests that there will be a record in the near future despite currently lacking a vocalist. Killswitch Engage is also scheduled to play the New England Metal And Hardcore Festival this year on April 22nd.

Definitely earned some respect for the guy after this. Glad to see a band actually being sensible and civilized about a bandmate departure.

Not a fan of their music, but he sounds like a pretty good guy. It's awesome to hear someone who after they depart from a band wish the band members lots of support.

Mad respect for Howard. It isn't every day somebody leaves a band and tells all the fans to get the new album, the one they AREN'T going to be on. Howard, you gave me some of my favorite songs, some of my favorite albums. I'm sad to see you go, but I wish you all the best in whatever the future holds for you.

I've seen killswitch a few times live and he just sends out a vibe that he is a good guy. Being a killswitch fan, i saw this coming with the whole times of grace 'sideproject'. Should be interesting to see them with a new singer, hopefully they dont take phil labonte away from atr again.

Guys stop thanking Howard. The real thanks deserves to go to the UG team for actually giving the article the right title.

Portnoy's demeanor towards leaving Dream Theater was just shit and he still hasn't shut up about it either. Now Killswitch and their relationship with all their ex-members, that's an example to everyone

The only way I'd want to see Jesse back into the band is if they made another album like AOJB, but that won't happen.

He's very mature about this, i'm not a KsE fan but he seems like a very nice man. Hope he does well in whatever he goes about doing in the future.

I really hope Howard comes back to music soon..I'd love to see him as a solo artist or form some supergroup

My name is Bronson. However if it were not, I would want it to be Howard. I wish this man happy trails and hopes he starts a band name named Howard and the Moobs.

As much as I adore ATR, their first 3 albums and enjoy the latest two, they're a sinking ship. They've lost what made them great in the early days and I just can't bare some of the song writing decisions they're making these days. Their saving grace is Oli. I'd hate to see Phil go, but putting an end to the current ATR/creating a window to rediscover what ATR is, isn't a totally abusrd prospect in my mind. The Fall of Ideals was a departure from their early sound, but it kept to certain vein. With Overcome, they pushed FAR to closely towards the mainstream... Oh, and had terrible production on the album too.

It would make only a crap load of sense for Jesse to return.... But then Killswitch would basically just be Times of Grace

Sounds like something Adam D would say.. Although im not super into these guys anymore..I think a fresh singer ought to spice em up again. Their latest stuff has been bland to say the least.

Man, I thought all the comments would be wishing Howard a good departure and good years ahead, But no. Of course not. That's too nice. Do we, as musicians, have a brain cell that keeps telling us "The first singer was better"? Because this always happens. People move on, you should wish them the best and move on too. Just my two cents.

Thank you howard. .....still hope of a Jesse Leach cameo album with Killswitch then? O yes!

well doesnt sound like theres much conflict between anyone which is rare...and for someone who leaves cuz he didnt have his heart into it..shows he didnt let the money and fame get to him...kse is a great band and he will be hard to replace by far...but i hope them the best of luck..

And sadly, your english is considerably better than most American adults. Very sad indeed.

this. i hate to say it, i like and respect howard as a musician/person, but those shoes were impossible to fill. he did a great job, but there was never a time where i went 'he fits better than jesse.' glad to see this isn't an ugly split though, because i do like killswitch, this just begs the question... who's next?

This makes me really unhappy, he was the main reason I liked this band. I hope for the best for him, especially with that diabetes.

Howard needs to start a country band. Hootie did. In all seriousness, this is extremely sad, but I wish Howard health and success. KsE was the first concert I ever saw about six years ago and the only reason I went was initially because of him.

I F***ING LOVE U HOWARD U ARE MY FAVORITE SINGER!!!! hope to c u live someday no matter wht band u r in. :M:

They're acting like grown-ups which needless to say is odd... usually when this happens, even when they try to put a good face on it, it's pretty obvious they're all pissed off at eachother and at least one of them is on an ego trip.

Man, ever since I saw them live at fortarock I've been wanting to see them again, such an awesome show.. Too bad ): Props to them though, This handled this very well.

I really don't think Phil Labonte should join the band, his singing is extremely bad live. Sure he might sound good on the record, but you can't decieve people forever.

Saw half of their show in 09 at Download. KsE are one of my favourite bands. Shame to see him go. Shame I won't see this lineup play together again.

She'd? What has she done? I believe you mean "shed". Sad to hear this news, but hopefully Jess will come back!

Howard was the only thing that made this band good, so no, probably won't pick up the new album.

I remember the first time I saw Killswitch in Fargo. I think they were playing "World Ablaze" and near the end Howard quit singing and just smiled at the crowd because they were going so crazy. It was one of the best concert moments of my life, and recalling that concert I realize that Killswitch, an up-and-coming As I Lay Dying at the time, and Soilwork was easily one of the best lineups I've ever witnessed.
