Iron Maiden Back In The Singles Game?
2
Fans might see some radio-friendly singles from metal veterans Iron Maiden in the near future. Guitarist Adrian Smith says the band are looking at working on shorter songs after recording a series of lengthy tracks. Smith told that he always admired the way Hendrix, Free and Thin Lizzy produced perfect three-minute singles. "They did some great singles put things into three minutes, which is a difficult thing to do, but it can be done. We've been writing longer for some reason. Maybe next time we'll do some shorter stuff but it's difficult to look into the future too far." As for bandmate Bruce Dickinson's pilot skills, Smith says he has no concerns letting the multi-talented singer fly him round the world. "Anything he does, he gets right into it and he does it really well. And he does it for a living, it's not like he does it as a hobby" he said. "I've seen him check out flight plans, literally just before a gig. It's like, "We've got to go on stage in a minute!" But he can switch on and off. He's very professional. It's amazing." Thanks for the report to Gibson.com.

I watched this episode of TMS and I don't think Adrian meant they were going to write "radio friendly singles". He was just saying that they weren't going to have five 8 minute tracks on an album anymore.

Right, it's a bit different radio friendly and 3 minute song...

The thing is that whatever Iron Maiden will do it will be amazing. And I'm happy to hear they're planning on writing new stuff eventually

Uhh, no. Steve Harris gets the final say in anything Maiden related, and it's pretty obvious he wants to continue heading down the prog path they've been laying since Brave New World. And good thing too, since the last 4 albums are some of their strongest.

I highly doubt Maiden will be getting into the 3 minutes and less club, unless they turn into a Thrash band.

I have nothing against long songs, but it seems that as of lately, Iron Maiden songs have been a couple minutes too long. Parts are repeated too much. Still love the band.

I wouldn't mind hearing some new Maiden hit radio stations. But they're gonna have a hard time topping stuff like "Run To The Hills".

Well, just look at it this way guys, even if the songs are shorter, they are going to still be epic.

Fear of the Dark, The number of the beast, and 2 minutes to Midnight are so much better just to name a few

Maiden doing a short song would be like Metallica doing a song without wah pedal, it just wouldn't feel right...

I definitely prefer the longer tunes (as long as they don't suck). That's what I like about so much of the 70's era rock.
