Known for its relentless touring and one-of-a-kind, fearless live show, Iwrestledabearonce - the Shreveport, Louisiana quintet now transplanted to Los Angeles, California - has announced a change in musical direction. The group's foray into black metal is exemplified by its newly designed logo and band photos.

"We were sick of getting lumped in with 'scene' and 'whatever-core' bands, so we decided to embrace our roots and just go straight black metal on the new album", says guitarist Steven Bradley. "I'd say 90 percent of the new record is straight-up black metal, so we had to change our image to match... Because, of course, that's just as important, if not more so, than the music."

Iwrestledabearonce recently completed work on its second album at the band's former house in Birmingham, Alabama. Guitarist Steven Bradley told Alternative Press about the 10-song effort, "In terms of [a] heavier style of music, we don't really know how to do anything other than ADD heavy music with random whatever parts thrown in. If people enjoyed the last full-length, they would, I assume, enjoy this one. It's the same style, but taken in each direction further - it's got the heaviest stuff we've ever done and also has the catchiest stuff we've ever done and then weird stuff. I never know how to describe our music."

"Not that we're Metallica, but we have our little style of music that we always seem to write", he continued. "I don't know; I feel like it might not be the best thing alive, but I definitely feel like we have our own style of putting things together, so I don't know that we'll ever stray too far from that, I suppose."

He added, "We know what we like - and whether we want to or not, [we] have a certain way that we seem to always do things. There's] not a pre-decided structure or anything, but you can pretty much always count on having some heavy stuff, some softer, epic stuff and some random jazz or weird things thrown in. If people are down for that, then they should be down for this."

Iwrestledabearonce's new album is due this summer via Century Media Records.

I used to think this band was 60% joking but now I think its like 80%. Whatever, still might be some sweet music.

They bought some makeup and black leather so they can prank everyone. So many people are gonna fall for this... Awesome!

You gotta have the black metal look if you're playing black metal. If they actually do/have changed to black metal, they have to have the look or else it will just be silly.

I literally could not give less of a toss. I love black metal, I guarantee I won't love them.

I'm pretty sure the band is just messing with everyone. Their last full length was certainly... Interesting. It had developed a fan base that I don't see enjoying this little foray into black metal too much. Also, one does not simply change their music style from light, fun spazzcore to black metal. Every time I look at these new photos I laugh because I've seen their previous ones.

Well, I was calling them a bunch of pussies if this was true, which I assume it isn't. I didn't realize the singer was a female. I'd never seen them before, only heard them. She doesn't sound very lady-like. I couldn't do it after hearing her. Major boner killer. But no disrespect to Janis intended at all. I'm actually sorry that I even mentioned her name in the context of this band.

+1 dude. And I think imperialfury might be right, it sounds like a joke to me, but if it is true then it's pretty pathetic... Haha.

Self-respecting musicians change their style simply based on what bands they are/aren't associated with. True musicians purposefully change their image to suit their superficial style change. But what happened to confidence in your music? I want bands to tell me they wrote the best ****ing music on Earth, whether it actually is or not. If you can't have confidence in your music, how can you expect me to? If I wanted to hear some vagina with my rock, I'd listen to Janis Joplin.

Ugh, not Black Metal. I actually kinda liked IWABO a little. This change in sound will take away any interest I had in them.
