Jani Lane 'Killed By Only Friend'
0
Ex-Warrant singer Jani Lane's body was found beside a bottle of vodka and prescription medication, California police have said leading Sebastian Bach to reflect: "His only real friend killed him in the end." An autopsy on the 47-year-old was inconclusive following his death on Thursday in a Comfort Inn motel. Former bandmates and other musicians have paid tribute to Lane while his manager, Obi Steinman, says: "I lost a very dear friend. His family, including his young children, asks for privacy during this difficult time." Bach, ex of Skid Row, says Lane's tragic end is "all too typical of what a rock musician's life actually is." He comments: "It's a life marked by extremes. Extreme attention from people you don't know while the work and travel take you away from those you do know." "Playing to thousands of people then going back to your hotel room and shutting the door. When the door shuts the quiet is the exact opposite of the volume of the concert. The solitude of the room becomes the parallel of the adulation of strangers." "For some, the bottle of vodka or whatever becomes a friend that's always there for you while others come and go. I've felt those emotions myself." Bach says it's another reminder to share fond words with people you care about while you still can. "I guarantee Jani would not have anticipated everyone coming out of the woodwork extolling his life and times", the singer continues. "Which is why he probably died alone in a hotel room with his only real friend." His cause of death cannot be confirmed until toxicology reports are completed, which may take up to eight weeks. In the meantime investigators suspect accidental overdose or possibly natural causes. The family of Lane, real name John Kennedy Oswald, have gathered today for a private memorial service. His sister Vicky Oswald-Ley says: "Alcoholism is something he fought every day and it just won." "There were no drugs; that was one thing he could not tolerate. But he'd get clean and sober then fall off the wagon." "He was talented and witty and bright but he shut his siblings out, and I know that's because he was ashamed of his drinking. There wasn't a day when one of us didn't try to contact him." But she hasn't yet heard from Lane's wife. "We have so many questions and don't know where to turn for answers", she says. "Why was he in a hotel? Why was he away from his wife? Why was there isolation?" Thanks for the report to RockNewsDesk.com.

Well, that's a bit easy. Of course, it's something weird to live, but when he was writing this song, he knew how cheesy the sexual innuendo was, and so how catchy and commercial the tune would be. If you want to be remembered as someone who did the music he wanted, then don't write this kind of songs. It's so easy then to complain about being remembered by your hit song, a hit song that you don't even like, furthermore if you made so much money out of it. Another thing that puzzles me, is about the loneliness mentioned by rock musicians during their tours, which drives them toward excesses. Why don't they just bring their family and girlfriends with them ??

There were no drugs? wtf do you think PRESCRIPTION DRUGS means. Just b/c it's legal doesn't mean it isn't a drug. Sad for anyone to die in this manner though, I do sympathize with his family

The album sales speak for themselves, Blink is a far far more successful band. It has nothing to do with overrated
What so because he did something bad that makes his music less good? At least warrant had better songs. Even cherry pie kills anything blink had.

All Jedis are Jewish. They are really smart, and the Star Wars films made insane amounts of money. RIP Jani Lane.

The sad thing is how when amy winehouse died it was on every t.v. channel and every radio station to the point it made me sick. Jani Lane surpassed her on so many levels and if it wasn't for dee sniders house of hair and just happening to catch it on the internet I would have never known he died. What is wrong with this world? I know he struggled a lot in previous years, but he was an incredible song writer and his life should be celebrated by all those lives he touched. I will never forget him. You were one of the best Jani!! God must have needed a new lead singer to rattle the heavens

I'm sorry to hear about Jani's passing. I liked Warrant's music and thought Jani was a good song writer. I think I'm gonna go strap on the old guitar and play some Warrant tunes in honor of him.

Long live jani lane, you will to my kids ,I'll lay your music always. Rip jl

Which makes way more sense actually. Think about it: the country is in a communism scare and the president was just killed by a game named Oswald. You are about to pass on that last name to your kid. Naming him John Kennedy was a sign of American loyalty in a time where it was necessary to display it.

What the hell are you talking about? My dad was an alcoholic for 40 years with 2 relapses. He's now 66 and has been sober for over 6 years now, attending a 12 step program at a local church.

I shot Pool with Jani at the Rock Club The Ritz near Detroit after a concert one night years ago. Great Guy...Real Friendly and Humble....not arrogant at all. That Item about him hating Cherry Pie came from a Documentary on VH1. He later retracted what he said because he was really bummed at the time...he had just lost his Mom before that Interview. He only wrote Cherry Pie because the Record Label Head wanted a "Love in an Elevator" type Tune on their second album. He wrote it in One Evening and the Label ended up naming the Album Cherry Pie....when it was supposed to be titled...Uncle Tom's Cabin. He recently wrote his Accurate Bio/History on the site JaniLane.Net if any of his fans weren't aware of it. The other night I found a Great Interview he did on an Internet Radio Show (Christmas 2010) that had a lot of stuff I never knew about him and Warrant as well. Great Interview...Check it out. http://www.blogtalkradio.com/fightinword... l-hail-hair--original-warrant-vocalist-jani-lane We lost a Great Songwriter/Singer.....RIP Jani.....

sad to see him go, and it feels weird considering i saw him at the hard rock with Warrant not too long ago... if this could happen to him im just WAITING for the news that Vince Neil's problems FINALLY catch up to him...he's done far worse than what Jani did
    Gibson_Man
Sad he died. He lost a lot of weight not too long before his death. It doesn't matter if you look at Warrant or what he did on his own, Jani was a great singer and just lived his dream. He didn't go around bitchin' "man, I wish I could be more famous." He took advantage of what he could and went pretty damn far.

Are you serious? Lol. Ever heard of Ozzy Osbourne? Lol. Sure, he sobers up... then falls off the wagon. Same with dear old Sebastian there. And don't forget the famously pickled guitarist for the Rolling Stones. It is sad when they can't escape the demon, and it gets them in the end. RIP Jani

@reason84: Maybe he was using Cherry Pie as an excuse for something deeper? I would think many musicians who write a hit and have to play it every set for the rest of their existence would tire of it. But seems like most are able to cope.
