Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted has said he would rejoin the band if he was made an offer he could not refuse.

Newsted left Metallica in 2001 and was replaced by Rob Trujillo. Newsted was himself a replacement, having joined Metallica in 1986 following the death of Cliff Burton. Speaking to Swedish blog Metal Shrine about the possibility of rejoining his former band, Newsted said:

"If they were 'brofessional' about it and if they came as my brothers and they were professional with the meeting and they're sitting there and looking me in the eye and the managers aren't around." Adding: "If it was like that again and the money was crazy, then I would consider it. But it would be only for that thing and it would be absolutely delegated. It would have to be these 30 shows in these 45 days for this squillion dollars. But it has to be that."

Newsted went on to add: "I love those guys and I always will and I will defend them to the end of time. I'll always have respect for those guys, because they gave me my chance. They gave me my chance and I'll never ever forget that. Now, we've had our differences over time but that shit is under the bridge a long time ago."

Metallica are currently working on a new album. They plan to release the follow-up to their last album "Death Magnetic" in 2014. Drummer Lars Ulrich recently gave Metal Hammer the lowdown on what to expect.

He said: "The stuff that we were banging out yesterday, it felt heavy, it felt energetic, it was loud, it was fast, it was rocking, it was crazy... The snare drum was on there and there were guitar solos, in case anybody was wondering."

Thanks for the report to NME.com.

James Hetfield: "Hey Jason, Rob has left the band and we were wondering if you...." Jason Newsted: "Yes!Yes!Yes! I'll do it!!Ohmygodohmygodthankyouthankyou..." James Hetfield: ...might know some...well, a bassist or something..." Jason Newsted: "Doh!"
I'm pretty sure I'd join Metallica... for free. I wouldn't ask for pay. I'd join a squillion famous bands, without asking to be paid. Lol.
I like cliff and jason the best, but I really can't stand rob. he's a great player and all, but it doesn't feel like he fits. Yeah, he can play like cliff, but metallica has moved on from that magical vibe that they had with cliff. That's why I prefer newsted to trujillo. newsted actually fits better, in my opinion.
I think Metallica is happy with Rob, and Rob is probably happy making millions of dollars so I don't see any reunions ever happening.
"Shit is under the bridge" I think Newstead got his analogies mixed up, or am I just making a meal out of a mole-hill here?
jason's back up vocals are the only thing hes got on robert but why the hell would rob leave or get fired from metallica?
Jason could sing lead if he wanted to, and he has in the past.
ive always loved the ferocity he brought to the leads. he was a much better fit for metallica than Rob, even if rob can play bass better.
Both Bassists are great in their own right... I think Jason got the raw end being an outsider to replace a dear friend... But Truijllo has got the chops and plays like Burton.. I think Rob is the better fit.
True indeed. The other thing that you may notice is the overall speed in the songs including their gigs. It seemed like Trujillo brought back the speed into Metallica. Something that may have lacked during Newsted's era.
Maybe they could do something like lulu, but with Jason writing a lot of the material, and it would be better than lulu
Rob is so much beater jason with 3 lyrics with metallica 15 yers Rob 15 lyrics in 9 or 10 yer
kurt_cobain9 i agree with u i cant liked he so much beater form jason bat dont much with band .
Too bad he didn't write any of the music that made Metallica famous in the first place. Why would they feel obligated to bring YOU back? Psh. I'd do it for free.
