Joe Satriani will be playing the National Anthem at this year's Red Bull U.S Grand Prix, Blabbermouth reports.

The three day racing event takes place at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Satriani will play "The Star Spangled Banner" just before the three-day event's premier contest, the MotoGP World Championship race, on Sunday July 21st.

Satriani's 14th studio album, "Unstoppable Momentum," was released last month. The record featured Vinnie Colauita (Sting, Jeff Beck) on drums, Chris Chaney (Jane's Addiction) on bass and Mike Keneally (Dethklok) on keyboards. Production duties were handled by Satriani and Mike Fraser (AC/DC).

Speaking about the idea behind the album, Satriani offered the following:

"The idea was to crank up the energy level of the sessions, and allow for more individual expression of the material from each player ... the chemistry with Mike, Chris and Vinnie was fantastic and we blazed through all of the tracks with everyone laying down amazing performances."

I don't get it when they break out the guitars to play the National Anthem. To be honest, it sounds utter shit every time. (Metallica at some SF baseball game this year, Slash some other time, now Satriani,...) I'm not doubting their skill, I just find the National Anthem played on a guitar with some distortion and effects shit.
I don't get it why they have to make the national anthem thing so big in the US... Letting big artists sing it with their own "touch" and make guitar players play it with distortion... Just keep it simple and it'll be just fine
he could play it blindfolded with one finger standing on his head with a left handed guitar.
