John Mayer Takes Jason Becker's ALS Ice Bucket Challenge With a Heartwarming Guitar Tribute

Becker also replies, says he's "melted" by tribute, more inside.

Ultimate Guitar

John Mayer just posted a response to Jason Becker's recent ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, offering a heartfelt guitar tribute to Jason, and an ice-cold bucket to himself.

In the clip you can check out below, John performs Becker's classic track "Air" off the axeman's 1988 effort "Perpetual Burn."

Jason personally responded to the tribute, noting via YouTube: "Holy Cow! John, I am such a huge fan of your music and guitar playing! I can't tell you how much this meant to me! Your version of 'Air' melted me, brother. My parents and I are so moved. Thank you big time!"

Furthermore, Mayer went on to repeat Becker's nominations and call out Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth.

As reported, what clearly made Jason's video special is the fact that he's been battling ALS for the past 20 years, becoming a great source of inspiration with his optimistic spirit and strength. More on the original clip here.

John Mayer's a great guitar player and a good guy. The whole ALS bucket thing is a great cause but what I've been seeing lately on pages like Facebook is idiots doing it for fun without even mentioning ALS (probably don't know what it even is). I just wish that everyone who did this thing bothered to spread some awareness.
Finally, something good goes viral on the internet. Didn't think I'd live to see something like this. Nothing short of classy.
    Gee Halen
I hope they will get EVH and DLR to do the challenge, they are so much into their own world. Maybe they think they are too cool for this. (pun intended)
That was awesome. So much respect to John Mayer for paying tribute to Jason Becker and doing such a cool thing!
I am glad ALS is getting more attention worldwide. Cacophony - Speed Metal Symphony is one of my favorite albums of all time, and I hope Jason's able to play again someday.
Fantastic. John Mayer is obviously a man of admirable taste and class. I loved the video, although I can't honestly say that I appreciated the generic, impromptu blues licks being played over Air. The moment he started to improvise he lost me.
