Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is set to play a rare acoustic gig as part of James Lavelle's Meltdown festival, NME reports.

Homme will perform at the London festival on June 16. Speaking about the booking, Lavelle says: "I'm thrilled to announce my long term friend and collaborator Joshua Homme who will be playing a one off acoustic gig that will round off what has been an incredible year for one of the world's greatest rock n roll stars. Expect something truly magical."

The festival will take place from June 13-22 at London's Southbank Centre. Chrissie Hynde will play her first five show in five years at the event, as she releases her debut solo album this summer.

Neneh Cherry, ESG and Goldie were previously confirmed to appear at the Mo' Wax founder's festival. Also confirmed are the Heritage Orchestra, who will play the electronic musician's 1995 album "Timeless." Mark Lanegan's only European date will take place as part of Meltdown, while PJ Harvey, Grandmaster Flash, James Holden, Rosie Lowe, Glass Animals, Trentemoller, Jeff Mills and A Guy Called Gerald will also perform.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs' guitarist Nick Zinner and Tom Vek will also perform with Zinner presenting the UK premiere of "41 Strings" as part of the festival on June 20. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs musician plays guitar and conducts the work, which is made up of 41 acoustic and electric strings, as well as drums and synth.

James Lavelle collaborated with QOTSA as a producer and a programmer on their latest studio album, "...Like Clockwork" title track.

Queens of the Stone Age return to the UK in August when they co-headline the Reading & Leeds Festivals alongside Paramore.

I saw QOTSA last night and Josh Homme kicked two people out of the show for fighting but only after having the entire crowd turn to face the two guys and boo them because "nobody is supposed to fight at our shows. Everyone's just supposed to get laid afterwards." That's not really related to this festival but worth sharing here.

Only interested if he makes a 15minute version of Kyuss' song Capsized. Only 50 seconds or so long but remains one of the few songs that can bring a tear to my eye. Best thing Homme ever wrote.
