Lars Ulrich Accepts Drum Battle Challenge From Will Ferrell and RHCP's Chad Smith

Metallica's Lars Ulrich has accepted a drum-off challenge from comedian Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, NME reports.

Earlier this year Ferrell and Smith engaged in a light-hearted challenge on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The pair dressed identically in jeans and Kiss T-shirts for the occasion.

Speaking to Spin about the night and future battles Ferrell said: "I mean, we did talk about another drum-off." Ferrell explained: "With a third person that looks eerily similar to Chad and I. A third drummer out there ... Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith. He can settle that score now, too."

Ulrich has now responded to the challenge, saying: "Bring it on!!!". In a statement released to Spin, Ulrich commented: "I'm sure that with a bit of practice, I could give Chad a run for his money. But Will? That's a whole different story. He rules the 'bad-ass drummer universe.' I mean, you're talking about a guy who's so next level, actually, so beyond next level, that he may just be completely unreachable! That said, I'm definitely up for the challenge ... Bring it on!!!"

Ferrell was declared the winner in the first drum-off after bringing out a cowbell and playing along to the song "Don't Fear The Reaper," originally by Blue Oyster Cult, referencing his famous "More Cowbell" sketch from Saturday Night Live, which aired in 2000.

Kudos to Lars - seems it doesn't matter what he does here, he's going to get stick. If he'd ignored the challenge, folk would've been on his back - and now that he's accepted it, folk are on his back. He's clearly got a sense of humour to get involved - and if it raises cash for a good cause again, then that's never a bad thing.

But they take instruments from little kids and give cancer to college...

I also respect Lars for not giving one little shit about these internet drummers who mock him all the time. Lars has been beasting those drums for quite a long time

When you get to the magnitude of Lars Ulrich, being so well known, it is very hard for that person not to make enemies regardless what he does. Accepts: "Oh he's such a sell out." Declines: "Why wouldn't he want to raise money for a good cause?" Personally, I'm glad he accepted. This could be fun!

Fair play to Lars.He gets alot of crap for being a sloppy drummer but he's not the first musician to have a great career for not being that good.He doesnt claim to be the best drummer and openly admits that he hasnt improved.

I've actually always found him pretty awesome in the sense that he adds to Metallica's music so well. It's one thing to be an amazing drummer but it's another to actually make sure it fits the music

Lars is going to have to mime as well if he wants to stand any chance of winning

never much cared for lars, not because of drumming(i think he's ok...there's a lot worse, but i always liked his fat n heavy beats), but because he always seemed like a self righteous douche...but looks like he grew up a bit and doesnt treat music and his fans like his personal toilet anymore. nice to see he's become a bit more humble in his age. well played lars, well played.

I wonder who's next to be challenged

At least he admits he needs to practice...and acceptance is the first step towards recovery.

I'd like to see Nicko McBrain also take part in this... Or rather not see him, 'cause of his huge drum set

cool! but this ruins the joke... lars doesnt look like the 2 at all like wtf!?

Lol, 'I could give chad a run for his money' Don't get me wrong chad is not the best drummer in the world, his rudiment knowledge is fairly sound and his drug addictions have obviously inhibited his ability to maximise his potential but seriously lars, it's pretty obvious the last time you actually learned a new beat was in 1976.

If you took Lars' comment seriously well i guess you bought the whole: "Will rules the bad-ass drummer universe. "

It was funny the first time, but I don't know about this. Is this a desperate attempt for Lars to get people to like him? He should probably just give money to charity and leave it at that.

It was Ferrel's idea to begin with, also it's undeniable that with lars' involvement it could raise more awareness and more money.

Well if it was Will behind it it makes sense, he always over does things until they aren't funny anymore...and then does it again a few more times after that.

If this doesn't end in 'Por Ti Volare ft. Boats 'N' Hoes' this time, I'll be very disappointed!
