Led Zeppelin Re-Enters Billboard Charts After Nearly 25 Years

According to Blabbermouth.net, Billboard.biz reports that Led Zeppelin's classic 1971 album "Led Zeppelin IV" (which spent four weeks at No. 2), sold around 3,600 copies in the United States last week to return to the chart (No. 166) for the first time since 1987. The LP - which is priced at $5.99 at AmazonMP3 and $6.99 at iTunes - is up 273% in overall sales (compared to around 980 copies sold the previous week) and 654% in downloads. On November 8, "Led Zeppelin" turned 40. The album has been referred to as "Led Zeppelin IV", following the naming standard used by the band's first three studio albums and even four symbols that symbolized each band member: singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and late drummer John Bonham. Not only does the album have no title, but there is no writing on the front or back cover, or even a catalogue number on the spine (at least on the original LP release). Following the lukewarm reaction to the band's acoustic-leaning "III" album, "Led Zeppelin IV" was more upbeat and sits as one of the most influential albums in hard rock/heavy metal history. "Led Zeppelin IV" is the third best-selling album of all time in the U.S., with cumulative sales of more than 23 million.

Roughly 30-35 years ago, I dug this record out of my fathers stacks of vinyl, looked at it and laid it aside. I was looking for rock and this looked like folk music or maybe country. I listened to his records regularly and after some time I became curious as to what kind of music was on this unmarked record. He didn't really have any folk or country, just rock, so maybe this one was good as well. The record dropped onto the spinning rubber pad, the needle found a groove and I've been a fan ever since.

I hope it starts a trend. Shun the nonsense record companies are pushing and support the classics.

You could ALSO support other, often better bands of Led Zeppelin's time, instead of overhyped classics. Sorry. Inb4 a bunch of people downrate me because they don't know a thing about classic Rock, so they think Led Zeppelin is the be all, end all 70's Rock band. Ignorance isn't bliss, people. Never has been, never will be.
I'm pretty sure having an ego the size of your's isn't bliss either. Never has been, never will be.

If you did, you'd realize it is quite blissful. I'd rather be confidently assured in my correctness, than know nothing at all. Arrogance, it's Heavy Metal. However, the size of my ego doesn't change the fact that anyone, ANYONE, who actually likes Classic Rock as much as they say they do would know that there were many better bands than Led Zeppelin, and anyone who says otherwise is either a blind fanboy, or simply doesn't know a damn thing about the music. It's like.. The Big 4 and Thrash Metal. Anyone who knows the genre knows the Big 4 are definitely not the be all, end all Thrash Metal bands, and definitely no where near the best. But say that to any mainstream fan/entry-level fan, who probably only knows those 4 bands, and they'll defend them to the death because they don't know any better. I can't really blame 'em.. But it's still fun to make fun of them for being ignorant. At the same time, hopefully they catch on and realize how ignorant they are and better themselves.

get those rose colored glasses off, there was NEVER a magical time when "everyone" listened to rock or what you consider record company nonsense was not popular.

Who have you "been"? And who are you now?

Ok, your name has Metallica in it, but you hate metallica, and Dragonforce are the greatest but apparently Led Zep are the best? Make up your mind dude, you are very confusing...

Led Zeppelin IV is a great record, but there is also plenty of great music around today. Yeah, most of it is not promoted by record labels, but people's "all modern music sucks" attitude annoys me. Expand your tastes a little and I bet you'll find music that is just as good or better than most of the 70s "classics," those albums just don't sell as many copies. And record sales isn't a reliable measure of what "good music" is. It's pretty subjective. Also, like the above poster said, there are plenty of bands in the 60s/70s that are just as good as Zeppelin, but didn't get as much recognition. The Stooges and The Velvet Underground are two of my all-time favorite bands.

You would fail at being a translator, perhaps you should practice some more. If you want the translated version of what I said: "I know music, and you seem to be remarkably ignorant to it. All's I'm asking for you to do is shut up, turn around, and go figure some things out before you try talking about it." I'm not even saying Led Zeppelin sucks, I'm just saying that there were more bands, there were better bands, and they deserve people's attention, but they aren't going to get that attention as long as idiots continue to be stuck on overhyped, media-pushed "legends".
