NIN's version is a masterpiece. Cash's version was great in its own way, but I see no need to remake a song that's already been done right twice.

Haha imagine Leona Lewis singing 'Closer' - 'I want to **** you like an animal'...somehow i don't quite see it!

I want to make a flippant remark but i am just too pissed off about this.

To all those saying it's 'Cash's song' now- listen to it in context of The Downward Spiral. All I have to say on that.

So much this. If I hear some kid raving about "Leona Lewis's brilliant new original song" i don't think i can be held responsible for my actions.

Here's the problem. She will try to make the song sound pretty. It is not a pretty song. It is an ugly song and I don't think she'll be able to do it right.

Why... I bet she changes the lyrics... (although I'd love to hear her say "I wear this crown of shit, upon my liars chair" something tells me the lyrics will be more vanilla than the original. Not a fan of her but interesting choice, might be worth a listen (although maybe no more than the one).

im sick of singers who cant compose shit, yet make tons more money singing other people's shit.

Can't be doing with this woman. She's obviously a gifted singer, but she seems incapable of singing anything without it descending into melodramatic warbling in an attempt to make it seem passionate. It does my tits in

First Snow Patrol and now this. All she does is sing miserable bloody songs. She's just a depressing jukebox. Good voice, yeah, but no talent or vision beyond that.

Cash's version was amazing, it know its a NIN song but Cash just took it to a whole new level, you can hear the pain in his voice, I dare you to listen without crying. but it doesn't need another cover

Leona Lewis ruins everything she touches with her incessant wailing, complete lack of subtlety and scant disregard for any form of artistry. Yet she continues to work through every classic song she can find, butchering them and selling their sorry remains to the public, so ignorant morons can ask me "Hey, have you heard that new Leona Lewis song, Hurt?" In short, stop Leona, for the love of God, stop.

Cash's version is so good that i consider NIN's version to be the cover. Long live Cash. \m/

As well as being guilty of needless pedantry, you're also wrong: a 'remake' according to Apple Dictionary is 'a movie or piece of music that has been filmed or recorded again and rereleased.' Also I think you mean 'remade' (now I'm the pedant). You know she's just going to make 'Hurt' sound exactly like that version of Snow Patrol's 'Run' that she did. If you ask me, if NIN's version didn't say enough, then Cash's certainly finished it off.

The quivering in his voice is not from sadness, but from oldness. A common misconception.
    shred_wizzard
...this song is so great because it fits Reznor's troubled anxiety and Cash's life of regrets...I fail to see how this in any way fits Leona Lewish
    Bananafish003
Not a fan of Leona Lewis, not to disrespect those who are...but why would she even bother? There's already an incredible cover out there (Johnny Cash), so there's really no point in doing this...

I find it VERY hard to believe Trent would "ok" this. He was hesitant when Cash wanted to cover it.

    Or he's a musically oblivious 8th grader.

Screw this NIN and Cash did this song perfectly, why do we need this horrible version to come.
    LordBishek
I like the song, and I'll listen to it with an open mind, but I definitely think that if you're going to link to a youtube video of the cover, you should at least link to the original. After all, it is their song originally, no matter how excellent any other interpretation may be.
    GameSkate
Even Trent himself said that Hurt isn't his song anymore, it belongs to Cash now.
    mrlee192
I get bored hearing about people discuss Cashs version. Its a boring acoustic cover. NINs has awesome textures creeping underneath it making it the song it is, aswell as Trents great vocal performance.

Doesnt take away the fact that NIN's original version could be better.

Why? its not like she's gonna beat Cash's version. Like shes got owt to be miserable about anyway. Shower of shit if you ask me
    jonthomas83
At least Leona is possibly the most talented contestant to come out of The X Factor. She's got an amazing voice and I'm loving those song choices for the EP to be fair.
    Iliekgitaz
Leona Lewis would be perfect singing this... I only say this because she sounds like shes crying in every song.
    Root Beer
I don't think either version (Cash or NIN) is better; they're both great in their own way, and each has different merits. That said, a second cover is a little much.

I don't like the Cash version, and I doubt I'd like her version. Original version is awesome.
    MusicmonkeyTyke
Meh why not she did a pretty decent job covering snow patrol's-run. Oh and "Confirmed tracks on the album include.....and "Sugar". What is that a system cover? Haha
    ManInTheBox14
Cash's cover of "Hurt" is, I must say, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Of course, NIN's version is also great, and props to it for being the original. I have nothing against Leona Lewis, other than that I don't like her voice, but I just can't imagine her doing it justice. On a side note, Between the Buried and Me did a fantastic cover of "Colorblind" and I doubt she'll beat that either.
