Linkin Park Announce Guests for Chester Tribute Show: Members of A7X, SOAD, Korn, Blink-182 and More

Linkin Park have announced that the special guests for their October 27 LA concert in Honor of Chester Bennington will feature the following special guests:

  • A7X's M. Shadows and Synyster Gates
  • Korn's Jonathan Davis
  • SOAD's Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan,
  • Blink-182
  • Bring Me the Horizon's Oli Sykes
  • Yellowcard's Ryan Key
  • Machine Gun Kelly
  • Kiiara

As reported, this will be the first time the band's surviving five members grace the stage since Chester's death.

The press release adds that "the individual band members intend to contribute their fees from the event to Music For Relief's One More Light Fund in memory of Chester."

Additionally, the group premiered a video for "One More Light" in honor of Bennington.

Mike Shinoda told KROQ about the decision to organize the event (via Blabbermouth):

"I had gone to Rick Rubin as a source of guidance.

"He had said, 'I think you guys need to get on stage. I think that'll be the thing that'll feel good. It'll be super, super hard.'

"We haven't gone out together in public, we haven't played - we haven't gone on stage. He said, 'The fans want to see you. Not because they want to see a show, but there's a cathartic experience that needs to happen and it'll inform what you guys are doing.'

"And I thought it over - and I know that for some of the guys in the band, getting on stage [without Chester] is more scary than for other guys in the band, but I will say that for all of us, it's definitely the thing that we want to do.

"It feels like the right way to celebrate Chester."

Discussing Chester's death, Mike added:

"With something like this, and it was the same at his funeral...

"I know that the circumstances of his passing were really dark, and as we said at the time, the darkness that he had was always there and was kind of part of the package, but what was so unique and special about this guy is that he used it as fuel to do so many positive things.

"His overall, the way he was, he was such a happy guy, he was such a fun guy. When he'd walk in the room, there was such a positive, funny, upbeat energy, and that's what we wanna get out of this show.

"I know it's gonna be a roller coaster of emotion. But when we talk about this and when we're focusing on the show, it's really about, like we say, celebrating life."

I actually expected to see Corey Taylor on that list (no pun intended)

I think I realised when they announced the dates he wouldn't be there as Stone Sour are on a UK tour then. But a part of me still expected it.

Sorry, what's the unintended pun here?

    Corey Taylor is from slipknot...

I still don't get it. Am I retarded?

Like Cornell, Bennington committed suicide by hanging. While they aren't quite the same, some do use the terms "hangman's knot" and "slipknot" interchangeably. Soooo, Corey Taylor's being in Slipknot...

Why am I being downvoted for explaining the "unintended pun"

    Cuz I don't think that's it...

A pun is a play on words- do you see another one contained in:

No I see no pun at all I think he miss used the word.

I agree.  And I agree that the Corey meme is the main joke. Nonetheless, the poster's only possible reference to an unintended punks a secondary joke is- AFAIK- the oblique reference to Slipknot.

Unintended "puns", not "punks". (Count me as another person wanting an "edit" button...)

Go to BlackBook, delete post, re-enter corrected post.

I know I can delete and repost.  But still.

Cheers for the explanation dannyalcatraz. You shouldn't been down-voted, OP should have. It's not a pun though, just a joke making reference another subject matter. And a slip knot has nothing to do with a noose, how did that ever get misunderstood? Slip knot stems from "slipped knot", or "a knot that is slipped". Meaning it's modified to be undone quickly by putting a bight in the final working end jam. I'm a sailor, so I know. Not trying to be obnoxious.

it's about the meme "but what does Corey Taylor thinks/does about this...?"

Kind of a shame to see a few names I wanted missinf -I guess they're busy. The tribute concert is a great idea.

After the band hinted that they might go on, I thought of Oliver Sykes as a possible candidate for vocals. And now there he is on the tribute special guests list.

You never know these could be a try out of sorts for a new vocalist. I just hope they change the name if that is so.

I'm a BMTH fan, but Oli is not a very good singer. Their keys player Jordan, covers for him a lot. He wouldn't be able to do LP songs justice. Chester was an insanely underrated vocalist.

It's a shame, though. He sounds almost exactly like Chester when he wants to (especially his screaming).
    nmachowski
Yeah when screaming he sounds a bit similar to Chaz but he can't sing for shit. Chester was always more focused on improving his singing skills, while Oli probably destroyed his throat already thanks to his terrible technique. He won't be able to sing anything ever
    Cazman
I just realized I was thinking about the guy from Threat Signal for the singing, he sounds remarkably like Chester. (also lol at the downvotes. People really don't like anything related to BMTH on here).

Good line up. Haven't heard of Kiiara, or heard of Machine Gun Kelly's music but hopefully it'll just add to the show.

man system of a down without serj is just scars on broadway anyway, hope this cheers up LP, they need it

Daron's leveled up well enough during these last few years. His performance last year in LA was fanatastic.

They should invite Suicide Silence to play.
