Lorde has announced that she will curate the soundtrack for "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1."

As NME reports, the singer will work on the music for the third film adaptation from the best-selling series books. She will also provide the lead single for the soundtrack, which will be released on November 21.

"Curating the soundtrack for such a hotly-anticipated film was a challenge, but I jumped at the chance," Lorde says in a press release. "The cast and story are an inspiration for all musicians participating and, as someone with cinematic leanings, being privy to a different creative process has been a unique experience. I think the soundtrack is definitely going to surprise people."

The soundtracks for the first two "Hunger Games" films features contributions from Arcade Fire, Coldplay, the National, the Decemberists, Taylor Swift, Patti Smith, Kid Cudi, Phantogram and more.

Earlier this year Lorde said she was working on a new album of her own material, which is "totally different" to her previous material. The singer, who reached global success with her 2013 debut album "Pure Heroine," has said that she has grown as an artist and writer.

well i see a lot of sarcastic shit and a lot of people straight up hating, but what do you really want? this is a girl with a pop sensibility and she has been given an opportunity to show her ability. If you are so confident that she will blow it, why not just wait and see? the one thing i hate about this site is that people are so quick to jump on other types of music. if you legitimately liked playing guitar you would be thrilled to play with lorde's band. you would give your left nut. but instead of admitting that other music can be good, you hate on anything that is non-traditional guitar music and you write it off. it's a shame bc all i have seen on this site lately is ppl saying guitar music is dying... and it is because as a community guitarists are licking the nits of old band from 30, 40, 50 years ago instead of looking forward. you all are your own worst enemy and you don't even realize it. i have no sympathy
You're ignoring the fact that some people just legitimately don't like this type of music. It has nothing to do with being a "hater."
I don't think there is any guitar on Lorde's album, so there's that. Royals is basically just a click track for the majority of the song. It shows off her vocals/harmonies and its a very catchy song but I don't think its fair to say everyone would "give their left nut" to join her band. I don't mind that she's around or that she makes the music she makes. In fact, I'm happy for her. This project seems much bigger than her credentials qualify her for but I am interested to see what she does.
I know there's guitar on the last track, "A World Alone," though it's nothing special. Just there. That said, I still wouldn't want to be in her band.
and yet she is a top 100 tab on this very site
One direction is also in the top 100 tabs...it's not really that great of an honor or show of skill
like i said it's a very catchy song so people want to play it but I've never seen her perform it with a guitarist. Just keys and a drummer.
Haven't you seen her high school clip on youtube covering "Man On A Silver Mountain"?!!
Hmm,I don't see how a Finnish shock rock band suit THG, but I really loves the Arockalypsw.
As if I needed any more reasons to avoid the next version of "Hunger Games"...
Whaaaaattt???? No metaaaaal???? No reason to watch this Omg... #Trve #NoMetal #BadSoundtrack #BadSoundtrackCauseNoMetal #LordeIsPop #Love
For your information, "Taxi Driver" has the best OST ever, in my opinion. A jazz album, if you didn't know. Next overused strawman, please?
If I only had a penny for everytime somebody said the word strawman on the internet.
You'd be pretty poor, while strawman arguments are popular on the internet, most people are too f*cking ignorant to know what they are, especially the people who use them.
Everybody has to like Lorde? She is just over hyped. #NotBecauseNotMetal
Ofcourse you don't have to like her music. I just think music preference shouldn't be influenced by how well that particular artist is perceived by the general masses. I can enjoy Katy Perry and Lorde just as much as Remission-era Mastodon or 1930s jazz. All I'm saying is, is that the only thing that counts is whether you enjoy the music or not. Talks about "over-hyped" and "overrated" are useless. Just appreciate the music, or if you don't like it, listen to something else.
lorde is an actor. her whole personality is fake. just like any onther person in the pop business.
This person knows Lorde personally! She has known her since she was a baby! Her words are true!
they could have picked so many better pop singers than lorde's "I write songs about vodka even though I'm 15 and can't drink..." Adele Lana Del Rey
Watching the first movie was enough of a reason for me to not watch the rest.
Another heartless performance of everybody's darling Jennifer Lawrence is a better reason to avoid the Hunger Games.
I want to defend her because I think she's pretty cool, but actually you're right up to a point, she makes a better celebrity than she does an actress.
Have you not seen Silver Lining Playbook, or American Hustle? She was great in both. She's one of the better younger actresses to make it big in a long time.
I thought she sucked in Silver Linings Playbook, didn't believe her for a second. American Hustle is a total mess although that wasn't her fault.
Missing out on a lot of good movies if the soundtrack has to kvlty enough for the kvlt club first
Hmmm not sure how I feel about this. Hopefully she will surprise us and come up with some good stuff, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. She does have some pretty big shoes to fill, though, because Coldplay absolutely killed it with their track 'Atlas' for Catching Fire!
I have no clue who she is
you don't know who a lot of people are do you?
Calm down sparta. Are u familiar with her?
Don't know what would posses you to reply with "calm down," kind of an odd reaction but ok. I was merely just joking at that fact that you've made a similar comment about others before. Yes I am familiar since her songs have been on the radio, and she's been mentioned countless times on UG.
