Madina Lake's Bassist 'Critical' After Attack

Madina Lake bassist Matt Leone is in hospital in a "critical condition" after stepping in to stop a man savagely beating his wife in the street. Bandmate and brother Nathan says that Matt intervened when he saw the fight, and was left unconscious in the street for his efforts. Doctors had to remove a third of his skull to reduce swelling on his brain. Matt is reportedly in a critical condition. Nathan blogged: "I'm afraid I have some of the worst news that has ever hit our lives. It's almost impossible to even type this update. A few nights ago, Matthew walked from my apt. a block and a half down the street to meet a friend for a drink." "Half way there he saw a man severely beating his wife. Being the most amazing, strong, heroic and incredible person I know, even though the guy was twice his size, Matthew intervened. "He managed to subdue this guy for a second and since his wife was beat up pretty good called the cops.. as he did so the guy jumped him from behind and beat him. This guy did things I can't even type. After words, he and his beaten wife left Matthew unconcious on the street. "Matthew is in the hospital with a third of his skull removed as we wait for the swelling in his brain to go down. I'd rather not share any additional information at this time besides the fact that he acted as a hero and is paying a horrific price." Madina Lake headlined Rock Radio's Third Birthday party, where Matt's animated bass was one of the fans' highlights. Thanks for the report to RockRadio.

How are so many people making the assumption that it was Matt's wife? There's not even any slight suggestion in the article leaning towards that fact. It pretty clearly spells out that he came along a couple and the man was beating his wife then Matt, being the standup guy he is, stepped in and unfortunately paid the price for actually helping someone. Plus I dont know why so many people have to preface their comment with "Im not a fan etc etc.." because this isnt about their music.

Hopefully he'll pull through. The fact that he stepped in to confront the guy makes me deeply respect him, despite not knowing anything else about him.

Yes, this is very true. That's how all the rednecks get away with domestic abuse.

Probably. You'd be shocked how often battered women side with their father/husband/boyfriend, even in what we would consider a black-and-white situation like this.

not a madina lake fan but hope the guy get better soon. such a brave thing to do, i doubt hardly anyone would get involved if they say a fight on the streets.

Ahh that's horrible, not a fan at all. But you've got to give maximum respect to him, stepping in and saving his wife's life. Even if it meant risking his own.

Not being a fan of the music, but it's a pretty bloody awful thing to happen to anyone. I can only hope that he makes a speedy recovery and that the wife-beater gets a well deserved jail sentence.

Hooray for empty American bravado. But you can never really wish anyone harm, so hope he gets well.

I saw these guys, and he was awesome, leaping off of the risers and really tearing it up. And while the easy thing to do would be just call the cops while you stand there and wait, what kind of a ****ing man would you be if you let a woman get severely beaten right in front of you?

i'm not a fan of Madina Lake, but that was such a courageous thing to do, i hope he's okay... after what happened to Chi Cheng, I hope he fully recovers... And I hope that lowlife got caught, and his wife is okay too...

I'm not a Madina Lake fan, but that's not the point. The point is, I hope he gets better. This is a serious position to be in, so I just hope the health service gives him all they can.

I don't know who this guy is nor have I heard of his band but that was incredibly noble of him. I hope he gets well and that the police eventually catch that women-beating son of a bitch.

This is a horrible story. I hate how the good guy always seems to lose. I've met the Leone brothers and they are two of the nicest most humble people you could ever meet, seriously. And they are quite small, so for him to jump in is nothing short of heroic. Best of luck to him xx

Never heard of them, but I intend to after reading this. Few people would have the balls and selflessness to do something that awesome, this man deserves every piece of spotlight he can get and more.

When I first read it, that's what I thought too. In any case, way to be man. Get well soon.

I can picture headlines soon... "Swarm of Madina Lake fans manhunt for attacker". Hmm. Hope he gets better.

Is anyone else here kinda freaked out by all the 'People who hurt women are shit' comments? Such statements imply that hurting men isn't as bad as hurting women.
    Bob.Loblaw
Why does everyone have to say that they are not a fan before saying something about this subject? Obviously, the man made an act that has nothing to do with music, a brave one might I add. So let's all wish him well without bashing his day job. Hoping this guy gets better soon.

Matthew's one of the guys that inspires me to play bass with my fingers. I like these guys and hope you get better soon Matthew.

I really hope he gets better very quickly. He's a talented musician and obviously a very kind man. Best wishes to his family.

I'm sure he would have done that, if there was time to stand around and watch. I mean who knows what it must have looked like to him, I don't blame him for being instinctive. Let's face it, he stopped what was happening there and then, and I respect him for doing that, regardless of whether or not this guy 'probably' beats his wife every other day. Hope he recovers fully from this, the injury sounds really bad.

As much as i hate the band, the guy just earned an insane amount of respect from me, hope he pulls through. And knowing some crazed fan-girls of madina lake, id hate to be the guy who did it if his name is made public.
