Marilyn Manson has contributed a new song, entitled "Cupid Carries a Gun," to the soundtrack of drama series "Salem." The track will be used during the title sequence of the show and will appear from the second episode of the series, which airs on April 27.

Speaking about the track, which was co-written alongside show composer Tyler Bates, Manson said the following: "The occult and witchcraft is so often used in cinema with a heinous disregard for even researching its origins. I liked the themes of Salem. It looks at the witch trials without being cliché like most modern films." Bates also opened up about the writing of the track, which had previously existed in draft form, stating, "I saw the title sequence and the song immediately came to mind. I showed it to Manson for fun more than anything, and it inspired us to finish the song that night."

This is the first series of the show, which stars Janet Montgomery and Shane West and focuses on the real life 17th century Salem witch trials. This is also the first time that Marilyn Manson has consented for a track to be used on a TV show.

"Cupid Carries a Gun" is also the first track to be unveiled from the metal star's forthcoming LP which, speaking earlier this year, Manson stated was shaping up to be a "very cinematic" record.

Elaborating on the direction of the release, which will be the singer's tenth album and his first since 2012's "Born Villain," Manson also said that the record "isn't about being p-ssed about the world.

"The redneck in me comes out in my voice, and its got some old blues mixed with the very hard elements," he said. "I want to retain what I think is good about the past, what music I did and who I am. It's not about being p-ssed about the world - it's about realising someone has to f--k things up."

Manson is set to headline this year's Alt-Fest. The appearance will be Manson's only UK festival appearance in 2014. The new hard rock, industrial and metal event will take place from August 15-17, 2014, at Boughton Estate in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Of Manson's appearance, festival organiser Dominic Void has said: "We are ecstatic to have booked Marilyn Manson to headline for our first year; this means a lot to us and particularly our fans."

I thought the last album was great, and this song seems to have the same sound to it. Looking forward to the new album
Yeah, I thought Born Villain was a solid album. This extract from the song sounds like his older stuff, slightly more heavier, which is good
I feel as though I'm the only person that has loved every album he has made. Everyone likes to bitch and complain that his new shit isn't like his old shit. Much like your tastes and personality has changed over the years so has his. People want the same shit over and over again because they are afraid of change. Where does that leave innovation? Do you only listen to one band or one type of music? Probably not. That is why this genre has gone to shit, because artists don't want to try anything new, he was doing shit because it was more or less for him to do, not because we wanted him to.
The High End of Low had some pretty good tracks... Four Rusted Horses Acoustic version is amazing.. Into The Fire reminded me of epic closers like Man That You Fear... Golden Age of grotesque was probably my least favorite.
I found the last two albums horrendous, and somehow I don't think this one will be any better.
I think the firt half of Born Villain is pretty good and much better than The High End Of Low.
I agree, personally I think everything Manson has done since Holy Wood has been more or less disappointing. With Born Villain, I feel like they put out their best record in more than 10 years.
This man licks side walk poles and doorknobs, he must be stopped at once for his crimes against humanity and be placed in a corner so he can think about what he's done.....****ing show him not to think before he acts with his penis
Sorry, what!? I'm not a fan of Manson but this sounded like the bletherings of an 85 year old drunk!
looks like an angry christian from the 90's wrote that, welcome to the 2010's where disney gives sexuality to teenagers and the media gives violence for free, and it's all legal
Have you seen what Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, etc. have been doing? I don't think MM's actions are any worse than what they've done. Plus, when he wants to, at least he can be mature.
