Mark Tremonti Unveils Solo Band

According to Blabbermouth.net, a 30-second video clip in which Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti introduces his solo band - comprised of Eric Friedman on guitar, Brian Marshall (Creed, Alter Bridge) on bass, and Garrett Whitlock on drums - can be seen below. Tremonti's debut solo album, "All I Was", is tentatively due late spring/early summer. Working songtitles set to appear on the CD:
  • All I Was
  • Brains
  • So You're Afraid
  • You Waste Your Time
  • Decay
  • New Way Out
  • Leave It Alone
  • Wish You Well
  • Don't Claim
  • Proof
  • Gone
  • All That I Got
  • Giving Up
  • Doesn't Matter Tremonti handles all lead vocals on the CD, with additional contributions from Friedman (backing vocals, guitar, bass) and Whitlock (drums). Tremonti recently said that his upcoming solo album will be heavier than both Creed and Alter Bridge - and contain even more lead guitar solos than he does with either group. Speaking with ARTISTdirect, Tremonti explained, "It's a dynamic record. It's probably heavier than either Creed or Alter Bridge, but it's still melody-driven. Most of the stuff is more up-tempo and heavy-riffing though. I had to write eleven solos for this record so it took me a long time. There's lots of soloing." With regards to his vocal performance on the CD, Tremonti told IHeartGuitarBlog.com, "It's the first time I've ever sang on a record, so it was a good challenge for me... I've always been a songwriter, so I've sung while I was playing, but I write in my falsetto, so I'm hitting very high notes and all over the place, but I've always had a low range, so for my solo stuff I tune it way down. Y'know, I just never had the confidence before. I think the more I've sang over the years, the more I've developed the confidence in my voice, and I'm finally ready to do it on my own. But it's a whole different world."

Mark Tremonti isn't the only one guilty of throwing that phrase out every time a new album is coming. "Yeah man, it's heavier than our last album," "this is definitely gonna be our heaviest album yet", bah. Just make music my dudes. Just make music. And I do like some Alter Bridge, and he composes some good stuff, besides being a skilled guitarist. With this solo album, I assume he'll have ultimate artistic freedom, so it'll be interesting to see what he puts out. I won't be too disappointed if it sounds like Alter Bridge, though.
While I would typically agree with you, I think the useage of the "heavier" is proabably appropriate in this case. Creed not AB are really that heavy. Mainstream and, potentially, hard rock at best. Tremonti has said he was a big thrash guy growing up, so more speed, more muting and beefier riffs could, in fact, mean a heavier album.

I LOVE his solo vocal parts on A Thousand Faces and Words Darker Than Their Wings! I can't wait to hear this!

This record is probably going to outsell ABIII. Marks voice is going to surprise a lot of people, while his guitar work will be as expected. INCREDIBLE!

The lyrics might be comparable, but I'm thinking the riffs are going to be much more in metal territory. Considering his influences growing up, this could surprise a lot of people. I'm excited for this.

Yeah he did write One Day Remains 95% lyrics and music. Thats why it's Ab's best record.

he obviously meant his range in the vocal area. He's probably not gonna sing a C#7 anyway soon

I think it's gonna be comparable to the first Alter bridge album. I read he pretty much wrote most of that before Myles came in.

I remember hearing in some interview that he was talking about using baritone guitars for this. If I find it, I'll post the link. And C# isn't that low compared to some of the other f'ed up tunings he uses. A lot of the newest Creed record is in Drop B, and one of the songs is in C# standard with the low string tuned down to G freakin' sharp.
He did just get a baritone Tremonti from PRS and hes said he has a black 7 string and a Mushok Bari so...

Hmm, you certainly have a point. I hadn't thought of it that way. I'm so used to seeing bands throwing the word "heavier" around, and then I listen to their new album and it's just as heavy as the last one, haha. If he takes this album in a more thrash metal direction, I'd love it, being that I love that style. The rather "mainstream" sound of Creed and Alter Bridge is good, and especially with Alter Bridge he seems to come up with interesting chord progressions and riffs. But it's always felt rather... held back, or restricted, know what I mean? That happens when you're aiming for radio singles.

what so Myles Kennedy being able to write to ruined them? i think ABIII was the best beacause they figured out what their sound was.

I love AB, respect Tremonti a whole bunch and I am looking so very forward to this cd. But I have this fear that Tremonti will pull a Richie Sambora and tank with his vocals. For a good backup singer doesn't make a lead vocalist. Ever listen to Sambora's first solo cd? It's hilarious it's so bad. Please, Mark. Don't pull a Sambora!

I'm really excited for this album. He's the reason I started playing guitar. Granted I now mainly play bass, because I sucked at guitar, but nonetheless, he's my musical idol. Fuckin great guitarist, and great singer. At the moment, this is the years release I'm most excited about. \m/ (- \m/
