Metallica Perform in Antarctica, Official Photos and Setlist Available

"Words can not describe how happy everyone was," the band adds.

Rightfully described as the band's most unique show ever, metal titans Metallica have performed their Antarctica concert last Sunday (December 8) under the Carlini Argentine Base dome. Consisting of 10 classic Metallica tunes, the Coca-Cola Zero sponsored event was attended by a group of lucky fans from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico who won their Antarctica cruise tickets last month. "This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done," the announcement reads. "The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in Antarctica! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words can not describe how happy everyone was. "No word on if there were any penguins were attendance. #FreezeEmAll," the post concludes. Check out the full setlist and several official photos below, full gallery available on Metallica's Facebook page. Metallica Live at Antarctica Setlist: 01. Creeping Death 02. Trapped Under Ice didn't seem appropriate then?
Yeah, where's Trapped Under Ice? The only thing I can think of is that it was too cold too play it.
Or maybe they are superstitious and they were afraid they would actually end up trapped under ice if they played that song.
Or they can't play it anymore
That is what i was implying. I've seen video of Rob playing along with his iPod. He said he can't get the rest of the band to play it with him.
They played Trapped Under Ice when I saw them in 09, and somewhat frequently in recent years, not sure what you're talking about. Rob did mention he learned Frayed Ends and can't get the band to play it with him.
has nothing to do with ability, James mentioned in am interview one that he just doesn't like singing Frayed Ends. But then again he didn't like Escape either and it got played, so I'm optimistic
Curious that my first comments gets down votes while the second one saying the same things gets up votes 0_o
Or an adapted version of "Ride the Lightning"... "Snowflakes in my eyes Now it's time to die They're all eating my limbs Fuck off ya polar bears"
I love how James performs Trapped Under Ice nowadays. When he goes high he really has to push it, and that makes the song sound more desperate. Too bad they didn't play it!
Songs like "Trapped Under Ice" and "Jump In The Fire" could be appropriate to be played in a situation like that. But let's be honest, that was an occasion to stand less than a meter from Metallica playing their most famous songs. Say what you want, if I was there, probably I'd be dead happy.
I love how all these people are wearing T-shirts and Metallica is clothed really warm with caps and stuff.

    ----- to save time advance to 17min 40sec ----- coundtown ends at 21min 50 sec |||||
Seems like something Dethklok would have done.
Only they would probably summon some water demon and every one, except for the band, would die.
Metallica doesn't even change up the setlist in the tiniest bit even for a concert in F**KING ANTARCTICA?!
I was fussing out over barely freezing temperatures and meanwhile Metallica were rocking out in the Antarctic. Very awesome.
Very good setlist, but where's Trapped Under Ice. That would've been great in a venue like that. Since when do you ever get a gig in Antarctica.
To be fair, it's summer season in Anarctica. The weather probably wasn't THAT cold. Like 32 or something.
I checked the weather online and it said that it's about 30 degrees F right now, so I'd imagine that it wouldn't be that much difference when they played. I'm sure they've played in colder weather before.
Those photos are awesome, particularly like the ones with the mountains in the background!
I used to love Metallica, now I've kind of gotten away from them, but I mean, how F*cking cool of a show would that be! (no pun intended haha)
This was to show you that yes Metallica can even do THAT! Thanks Metallica; for letting us know...
I'd be interested to hear how the instruments would sound direct into the headphones.
We are scanning the ice in antarctica tonight. We're looking for a polar bear to start up a fight...
You'll be looking for a long time. There are no polar bears in Antarctica.
Hetfield's vocals where killer! When they're doing a one off gig, then he uses his vocal chords much better. Too bad the setlist was very boring. It lacks songs such as Trapped Under Ice, The Call of Ktulu or... Jump in the Fire.
What!? It doesn't even say what the temperature was. It's only the first thing I was thinking after reading the title.
Why ruin it with Nothing Else Matters. No one there wanted to hear that.
They play Nothing Else Matters at every show along with Sad But True, Enter Sandman, Master of Puppets, Seek and Destroy, and One.
Wonder what guitar amplification gear they were using. Some kinda amp modelling of some sort like line 6 pod perhaps? Curious to find out..
Axe fx 2, in fact there's quite some drama over it because they literally bought all of them
Do i sense a new genre in the making? Forget about Goblin Metal, now we shall have Penguin Metal
