Owners of St. Anger might remember a trailer for a video game featuring their favourite thrash metal band. The problem is, despite a release date pegged for 2005, it was never released.
Now concept art from the game has been revealed (via Kotaku) which hints at what could have been.
The game was to be a "post-apocalyptic driving/adventure game", in which members of Metallica were "badass, gun-toting characters". It was being developed for PlayStation 2 by Black Rock Studio, better known for creating MotoGP and The Italian Job video game. Disney, who bought the company in 2006, closed the studio in early 2011.
The concept art, posted below, was drawn by British artist Calum Alexander Watt whose anime-style will have been used by the game designers to guide their character design.
Black Rock Studio never formally announced the Metallica video game, but a teaser trailer for it was included on the album St. Anger, which you can see below.
