Mike Portnoy Open to Dream Theater Reunion, But Wouldn't Bet on It

"I'm a very nostalgic person, I forgive and forget very easily," the drummer says.

Drum master Mike Portnoy recently discussed the possibility of returning to Dream Theater ranks, expressing an open stance, but without getting much hopes up.

"If I was a betting man, I wouldn't put money on it," he told Metal Hammer. "And that's not my doing. I never say never and haven't closed any doors.

"I'm a very nostalgic person; I forgive and forget very easily," Mike added (via Blabbermouth), "but I think the guys [in Dream Theater] have made it very clear they have no interest in looking backwards.

"Those guys were a huge part of my life for a very long time, so I'm open to anything, anytime. I guess the ball's in their court. We shall see."

Although Portnoy's DT departure might seem like a fresh event, it's been four years since he focking left the band in 2010. Mike has since been replaced by Mike Mangini.

Sometimes you've got to be wrong and learn from mistakes
I have 2 of their albums, the self titled and Metropolis, both I really like, what should be my next album by them?
the first one by them that I heard was Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. that's a great one. Train of Thought is their most "metal" album, Octavarium is more proggy, Systematic Chaos is fantastic, Awake is pretty good, Falling Into Infinity is pretty good too, but not among their best. When Dream and Day Unite is pretty silly, but fun to listen to hehe. I think their best album is Metropolic Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory.
Mike was doing much better stuff when he was in DT. I have a feeling ever since he's started on his own he's been acting like a butthurt person.
Well I'm pretty sure Mangini's not gonna just stand and watch while Portnoy's drumming again. Mangini is the drummer for the band now and unless they get 2 drummers nothing's gonna change.
Sorry dude, last I checked they're still a band and they still have a drummer. "I'm a very nostalgic person; I forgive and forget very easily," Well that's interesting because you're the only one still talking about it.
Portnoy should just make one of his side projects (Transatlantic!) a permanent thing and just go with it. Beats moping.

This is just my 2 cents but I bet if A7X accepted Portnoy to become their full-time drummer, I bet he wouldn't even be saying this stuff
I dunno, maybe he should be the one asking for forgiveness
Portnoy needs to stfu already! He focking left the band! Really, eat your bitter stew, MP; you made it.
C'mon they gotta do the 12 Step Suite.. And Best of Times. Some of their best songs have yet to be done right

It all sounds like a nicer way of saying "Pleeease pleeeease take me back, guys, I'll be nice, I promise!" Anyway, it's not going to happen. The band and Mangini are having too good a time to just go back to Portnoy...
I really like Dream Theater and there's no denying Portnoy's talent, but this is just seriously disrespectful to the current drummer Mangini. You made your bed, now lie in it.
Mangini is a far better drummer anyway.
Doesn't matter if he's better or not, it's quite disrespectful to just kick him out now. If portnoy would leave again no drummer would be there to replace him since they know they'll get kicked out if he comes back again.
What time zone do u think this person lives in. It says it updated at 10:12 but my clock says 9:21
Avenged Sevenfold needs to kick out Arin Ilejay so Portnoy can get back to doing what he does best.
It's sad, so sad It's a sad, sad situation. And it's getting more and more absurd. It's sad, so sad Why can't we talk it over? Oh it seems to me That sorry seems to be the hardest word... Ha!
I feel I can understand him pretty well since his character seems so similar to mine at times it's almost scary, but unfortunately, this is a mistake that shouldn't be done. He cannot leave the band and change his mind a few months later... Especially that Mike Mangini actually quit his job at Berklee to join DT. I'm still a bit sad about the whole thing, and while I think DT is doing great with Mangini (especially A Dramatic Turn[table] of Events is an amazing album), I wish best of luck to MP, but sorry, this cannot be undone now.
This needs to stop. It's not either Mike's nor DT's fault. They're asked questions and they answer honestly, but is this an article? Seriously? We're going to et this exact same article every couple months until Dream Theater ends or Mike is six feet deeper (hah). All this does is crate artificial bad blood between fans and the musicians themselves.
