Morrissey Reportedly Dropped by Record Label

Harvest Records are apparently no longer working with the former frontman of the Smiths.

Morrissey Reportedly Dropped by Record Label

Morrissey has reportedly been dropped by his label, Harvest Records.

According to a post on Morrissey fansite True to You (via NME), the singer and his label have parted ways. The post reads: "Three weeks after the release of Morrissey's 'World Peace Is None of Your Business' (#2 UK, #14 US), Capitol Records/Harvest have ended their relationship with Morrissey, as directed by label boss Steve Barnett. Morrissey is once again in search of a record label."

The news comes after Morrissey appeared to criticise his label, with the singer hinting at "public deception" in the music industry in an update posted on True To You earlier this week.

The post saw the former Smiths frontman praising three fans who made their own videos for songs from his latest album, "World Peace Is None of Your Business." "These videos fully understand the intent of the song, and I am relieved that these films exist," he stated.

However, he went on to say: "A similar document ought to have been harvested by the record label, but please understand that the pop or rock industry can be as dedicated to perpetuating public deception as the world of politics itself."

Meanwhile, Morrissey has stated that Jamie Oliver should be "gassed by Princess Anne" and urged Scottish voters to separate from the rest of the UK in a typically outspoken interview. The quotes come from Irish publication Hot Press, via Rolling Stone and see Morrissey touch on controversial subjects including animal rights, Scottish independence and his own recent run of bad health.

Urging Scottish voters to Vote Yes in the September referendum, Morrissey said: "They must cut ties with the United King-dumb. I love Scotland, and I love the Scottish spirit and they do not need Westminster in the least." Meanwhile, Jamie Oliver became the latest figure of criticism of Morrissey's battle against meat eaters; "It would be a great help if Princess Anne gassed Jamie Oliver," he said. "He's killed more animals than McDonald's."

Jamie helps entire countries and schools eat healthier and helps middle-class families eat well on a budget. What did Morrissey do, save some seals?

I actually know nothing of Morissey apart from seeing articles about him complaining about stuff, imo he seems like the UK version of Ted Nugent

It's a shame he's known more for his rants nowadays, because The Smiths were a pretty good band (although very divisive, much like Marmite).

He's actually a brilliant lyricist, a good singer and well, his former band The Smiths did go down in musical history. And he's also a left-wing version of Ted Nugent, that's right.

Morrissey was that guy from 'Men Behaving Badly' who voiced Bob the Builder.

    ...and
So basically this was one of those bands which helped British kids with a love for alternative music survive them dreaded 80's

In a very recent article: “If Jamie ‘Orrible is so certain that flesh-food is tasty then why doesn’t he stick one of his children in a microwave?” he asked somewhat strongly. First of all, "Jaime 'Orrible"? This guy is supposedly a good songwriter (not my style, but I respect that he takes songwriting seriously), and he thought that "'Orrible" was clever dig? Secondly, if he really thinks that eating flesh-food is tantamount to eating human flesh, how can anyone take his views seriously? I eat meat, but I'm willing to listen to arguments in favor of veganism. But even implying that humans are the same thing as animals is childish and ridiculous. Why not extend it to flies, or even germs? If you use anti-bacterial soap, why not just slaughter your own mother? What's the difference. At least Paul McCartney isn't a c**t about his views.

I personally think that it's about consciousness. Most people think that it's about cuteness. Pigs, cows, chickens are ugly when they get big, etc. The fact is that your average pig is as smart as a 5 year old human child, same with a cow. I personally try to eat more fish because they're both ugly and stupid. I've been a vegetarian before because too much meat is actually bad for you but things like (Chicago) Hot dogs, egg rolls and burger kings tacos always bring me back. I know that they're the worst possible things health wise but they're delicious. Very delicious.

Could this be changed to Morrissey dropped from plane into Iraq, without parachute, and " I hate Islam " tattooed on his head?

The guy sounds like a bitter old fool. I can understand people wanting to voice their views to their audience and fanbase; it's who they are and gives people a better look at what they're like as a human. When celebrities are as 'in-y'-face' and arrogant as this though then they just come across as an unlikeable person, which must sour the music a little for people who like their work.
