My Chemical Romance Bottled At Reading

My Chemical Romance have been subjected to a heavy bottling while performing on stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival on August 27. The band were pelted repeatedly by the audience throughout their set on the main stage. However while the group tried to battle through and continue their performance, the constant shelling clearly upset frontman Gerard Way. After sarcastically asking for the crowd to boo and hiss, the singer declared: "We might be outsiders today, but we represent every outsider out there". He then introduced a track saying, "This song is called thanks for all the bottles, thanks for all the piss, thanks for all the golf balls, thanks for all the apples and thanks for all the sticky shit." The singer did briefly get the whole crowd on his side, when in response to a recent article that suggested emo promoted self-harm, he got the audience to chant "Fuck the Daily Mail" three times, according to NME.com report. Several days before the incident, on August 25, Panic! At The Disco frontman Brendan Urie was hit by a bottle seconds into his band's set on the Main Stage at the Reading Festival. Playing opening song "The Only Difference Between Suicide And Martyrdom Is Press Coverage", the singer was struck in the face by a missle thrown from the crowd. Read more at PunkBands.com.

I think bottling is bullshit. I was at a gig recently, and the support were getting a bit of hassle, although no bottles - they weren't allowed inside the venue - and when the headliners came out, I think the singer was a bit pissed off, since he likes the band who were supporting. It just goes to show that no matter how much a person dislikes a band, if they're playing and you bottle them, you will be pissing off people. People will have come just for My Chemical Romance. Ditto for Panic! at the Disco. You throw a bottle at them, you're ruining the day of hundreds of people. Why do guys have to 'assert their masculinity' by bottling emo bands? Emo is one of the few things that's come along lately which promotes free thinking and anti-bigotry, and even though they tend to be depressed, I'm all for it.

The guy from Panic! at the Disco being hit in the face with a bottle is priceless . I like My Chemical Romance though...even though they suck live.

Thats terrible. I really don't like Panic! that much, MCR is okay, and The Mars Volta bored the shit out of me when I saw them live. I hate when crowds do stupid things like this, it ruins a good show.

Hell, this is nothing new, Guns N' roses had bottles thrown at them at Donnington, this happens to every band but of course the die hard fans are going to get incredibly upset and make all fans of those bands look stupid. But oh well.

They think just because their signed now every shows gonna be amazing. you are not comparing the mars volta with MCR and Panic at the disco. thats like comparing a 5 star restaurant with mcdonalds.
sorry homey, thats the way it rolls. i think the point is that bands that should have been liked, weren't. genres and tastes dont enter into it. besides, mars volta take three songs in a fourty minute set, and that's a lot to ask from a festival crowd. bring back At The Drive-In

ok, one, really facinating how many people here actually admit to advocating physical harm simply because they don't like the music that's playing 2, if you really want to throw something, throwing a bottle is just stupid and dangerous. if you miss the stage you will take out someone in front of you, and they wont laugh it off like MCR did, they WILL kick your arse if they find you 3, it isn't that hard to walk away from a band you dont like. there is a good chance you knew they were on the bill, and if you stayed to throw bottles at them, that constitutes premeditated assult, which last time i checked, was illegal. dont be a retard, dont throw shit at someone you dont like, throw abuse or walk away

AAAHHAHAA!! ok well that's funny and all and I do hate My Chemical Romance but that's a bit drastick don't you think? like bottles jeaz whatever happened to tomatos and heads of letus I mean....JESUS! lol Man it brings a tear to my eye when I think of how we've lost our way when it comes to kicking people off the stage I mean like Justin Timberlake at the SARS benafit in Toronto NOW THAT was a good stage kicker offer lol.

I hate when people ruin a show by throwing stuff... Especially when they miss an hit someone in the crowd. Well, with the risk of upseting a few people.. ha.. id just like to say im neither into emo nor metal.. but i have listened to both quite a bit and really there's not a whole big difference in regards to the whole "depressed lyrics about death" thing. The only difference is metal has a few more guitar solos.. but whatever.. If you dont like the music, dont listen to it. Just don't complain about to everyone you know.. im sick of complainers - myself excluded

then there's the guy who threw a bottle at kurt cobain in the quiet time between songs and yelled at the top of his voice - "PEARL JAM KICKS YOUR ASS" Few months later he's dead

My thoughts exactly. TMV is on a completely different level than 95% of modern music.
Thank you, I agree completely though I tire of them faster than a lot of other stuff I still respect and enjoy their work. Whatever, I'd throw a bottle at MCR if I was at the show and had one... And I might be at a festival like that, lol.... I wasn't there of course, being an American Reading is a big deal to go to... Too much effort and not enough cash (meaning me, I lack $$$)

They should have just turned it up to 11 and laid the fans to waste...the bands need to fight back...and then I could laugh about it later...

he thinks he's an outsider? try being a guy who listens to folk rock in a country where everyone his age listens to my chemical romance. btw, it's hard to deny that emo promotes self harm with song titles like "the only difference between suicide and martyrdom is press coverage".

I despise both of these bands, but I still feel bad for them. Imagine finally getting to play a big festival like Reading only to get bottled. I'd be pissed too.

emo doesn't suck, because that's not emo, emo is sunn yday real estate. but mcr sucks so =) and i know that's what you're referring to.

Bottling is wrong, like any other kind of violence... did someone say that Maiden got bottled? WTF is that, who would bottle maiden, really?
I think Maiden got egged at Ozzfest last year after Sharon pulled the plug on the 5 or 6 times because Bruce was heckiling Ozzy earlier that day. But I really hate emo, I despise it. But the crowd had no right or reason to bottle MCR, they should have bottled the people who planned the show. MCR right after Slayer, that's just an accident waiting to happen.
    roythereaper
Any of you been at the front of the crowd and got hit by a stray bottle that just didn't reach the band? You wouldn't be laughing so hard if you had. Especially if they were full of piss. No band deserves to be bottled, not even Panic. And I can't stand their music.
    RHCPROCK!
MCR are great, unless you got the bottle to go on stage and are able to do a kick arse showdon't chuck bottles at them.

Slayers' set looked immense, can't wait to see them in November. MCR deserved that, but so did most of the indie bands. I swear indie is the new punk; the result of poor musicians and a few too many ideas. Gerard is blatently vain, though untalented, yet makesout as if he is self-loathing. Sounds like all emos to be honest though.
    AngryGuitarist
what a bunch of immature faggots, Give MCR some damn respect even if you arent into that kind of music
    punkrockjoe
I'm Not joking this was an awesome show he totally set it straight about emo and everything...This article doesn't tell you everything look for a video of this. I think that people should maybe listen to the lyrics before saying they promote suicide. I agree bottling is for wankers...they didn't get hit once either that was quite an achievment.

Man it's just stupid to get pelted and booed I mean come on it's decency to not throw stuff at people trying to put up a show, I mean it's decency not to like you would want for yourself.the emo thing, come on like someone up there said metal is basically like that in satanism and such.
    Kymble
i was there gerrard way desearved everything he got panic were great but mcr were crap
    zebrahead234
it sucks that htey got bottled, but WTF do you expect after playing RIGHT AFTER slayer?
    AllFunkedUp92
I think MCR are okay, but its not about the music...no band deserves to pelted with bottles.
    RyanInChains9
hahaha pelt them more please until they stop making such terrible music that floods our radiostations.
    jimmcs2000
I think emo is now called "scene" Everyone gets bottled at some point. This isn't news. MCR-not a big fan, But- they gotta be kinda cool bein from philly
    Maj_Tom
MCR totally isn't my style, but I still think it's stupid to throw shit just because it's not what you like. I totally can't relate to any of the lyrics in a MCR song but I just change the channel or station if the come on. They are doing their own thing, good for them.
    Idiot Pineapple
When it happens to: The Mars Volta = Travesty. My Chemical Romance = Hysterical. Still, bottle throwing isn't cool. Unless it's Nickelback.

ME: Hun before u judge Aiden, get the facts straight.Aiden is by no way similar to MCR. And they have been compared and they even think that's an insult because as WIL says: MCR are in a league of their own and he goes on to apologize for the comparison. And if u take a moment to hear their music believe me they dont sound at all like MCR and they started just about the time MCR started too.

Speaking as one of the fans who did get hit by the bottles down the front of the mcr gig i didn;t think it was very ****ing funny at all. i've got a big lump on my head and have had a constant headache for 3days just for having the nerve to go and see my favourite band play a live show at a gig i paid money for. i agree with most people on here about how immature it is, i don;t particularly like slayer but was i lobbing bottles at them?no!think of the consequences, you're not just bottling some band u don;t like, ur bottling their fans too and that's ****ed up.

    Yeah, but both bands suck.

they got bottled by the slayer fans and mcr are actually influenced by slayer yeah sux how they had to ruin teh fun for those that actually liked/love them yep

And forgot to add, in a category that they would really belong is "HORROR ROCK" Yes i know its not my original idea, for those who know whom else im refering too, but if the shoe fits.... PATD well they are so sarcastic, i like em, but that's bout it, but no one deserves being throw shit (literally), gross ugh.
    mermaid
That quote bout being outsiders was pretty dumb of Gerard, I LOVE them to death though and if i was there i would have definitly defended em! This whole thing is funny, it would have been funnier if the fans of MCR would have attacked those idiots who threw bottles. However, I think people put too much emphasis on EMO, in simple words all they are is a rock band. Besides, emo = emotional and if u really think about it all bands are emotional. Come on who on their right mind would commit to this job? It's horrible(use ur imagination, no showers for days, no clean clothes, always on the road), the only thing that will push a band into this is passion for the music, and passion is an emotion. And just because some people want attention and do this self harm doesnt mean everyone does, plus if u know about MCR they do NOT want u to do this! That's why the music is sometimes depressing, its an outlet, not an excuse.
