My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way has said he plans to channel Freddie Mercury during the band's Reading and Leeds Festivals shows this year.

Way said the band took inspiration from Queen singer Mercury after being bottled during their 2006 appearance at Reading Festival.

"I said to the guys, 'I never want to play this again until we headline'," he said. "Kind of what Freddie Mercury once said when Queen were booed offstage at this festival [they were booed off stage at a show in Australia, at the Sunbury Festival in 1974]."

The singer claimed that the band's headline shows would be "something special", and that "we don't care if we lose money or break even."

The Reading And Leeds Festivals take place on August 2628. My Chemical Romance headline the Friday night (26) at Reading and the Saturday night (27) at Leeds.

Thanks for the report to NME.com.

"we don't care if we lose money or break even." Of course not. You have Glee to fund you guys. And the first thing I imagined after reading the headline was Gerard Way banging fat bottomed groupies after killing a man and crying "don't stop me now" when he gets bottled some more during the show.

Trouble is Queen were awesome and able to come back stronger and blow doubters away, My Chemical Romance on the other hand, are nowhere near that level, I'd bottle Gerard way, if I saw him in the street.

I didn't think I could hate people who hate mcr anymore either, but I stand surprised that once again ignorant people come through with nothing productive to say. Go away please.

Sweet. I love when great modern bands take inspiration from past events and great older bands. Props to My Chemical Romance. Truly one of the hardest working, most artistic, and true rock bands we have left.

It kind of pisses me off that this article was posted, because it's so misinterpreted. The second I saw the title, I knew that it was some bullshit making Gee sound like the ***** from Oasis. Gerard isn't some pompous douche that compares himself to Freddie; he's simply citing an influential singer as an inspiration.

MCR is a good band. That is a fact. Whether you like them or not is an opinion. Bands that can play their instruments at a professional level are good despite the style. Asking Alexandria is an example of a BAD band. Playing the same goddamn notes OVER AND OVER and screaming stupid stuff.

I dont like them, but to return after being bottled off takes balls. And i almost admire that FU attitude.
