In an unexpected move, US metallers Nevermore have announced the departure of guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams from the group.

A joint statement was released by the pair, reading:

"In a mutual decision Jeff Loomis and Van Williams have decided to leave Nevermore. The time has come to pursue our own paths from the group. Due to internal struggles and ongoing issues within the band, we feel it is our time to move on. We would like to thank all of our fans around the world for their years of love, support and enthusiasm. This was not an easy decision but a very necessary one at this point, may we all meet again someday, somewhere in time."

This news comes shortly after Nevermore's decision to withdraw from an upcoming North American tour with Symphony X for unspecified reasons.

It seems likely that the same internal conflicts that drove Loomis and Williams to quit the band informed their decision to pull out of the Symphony X tour, but the band is keeping mum on that point.

Nevermore has no current touring plans, and the band's future is uncertain after this announcement.

Too bad Warrel Dane OD'd on all of that Reality. He, of all people, should know that THERE IS NO STRONGER DRUG THAN REALITY

Why.... im so disappointed, but as long as warrel dane is still in, I believe the band is still good, along with the bass player

I've always thought that if Jeff Loomis wasnt in Nevermore they wouldnt even be a band. Whomever recruits him for their band is gonna be rediculous. Imagine Loomis in The Faceless or something like that

Ha. I was just about to buy tickets for when they come down to Australia, and now this happens. Damn you Warrel Dane and your cowboy hat.

I'm somewhat glad, I never really liked Nevermore but I would really love to see what Loomis has to further offer.

If you REALLY want to nitpick... every guitarist in Megadeth with the exception of Chris Poland... was/is younger than Dave. Woo for random irrational anti-Dave posts!

Agreed. Not a fan of the music at all. But they all have immense talent.

I did see this comming after seeing them in marts, they didnt really seem too be playing together, just plaing, and warrel dane was totally drunk and/or on drugs, and couldnt remember some of the lyrics. Also the last album sucked especially compared to how good Loomises solo album was, soo was kind of only going one way..

This killed me, I wanted to see them so badly. They're the only band I was determined 100% to see. I love Jeff though, he's my idol and I hope he keeps making solo records. I have a feeling that the internal conflict was mostly with Warrel, Jim Sheppard seems way too nice to argue with to the extent of quitting. I wish Jeff and Van the best.

Looks like Paramore found a replacement for their guitar/drum duo that left. Trolling aside, this is upsetting to read.

It kinda was, but it was also Warrel Dane's too. They both made Nevermore after Sacntuary disbanded. Look em up, Sanctuary was a very good band. Kind of a Power metal/ thrash metal mix.

Jeff Loomis would have gotten into some problems if he joined because he was only 16, considering most bands drink a lot.

They did't take Loomis because he was so young, not focusing on the drinking aspect of the position, but more on the fact that the band thought he wasn't ready. Look how that turned out...haha

Damn!!! Was meant to be supporting them when they play perth/Aus, opportunity to play with a great band missed best of luck to the guys with there decisions they make from now

I want them to form another prog/groove/thrash band, but this time pretty much a Jeff Loomis solo album with vocals. That would be sick.

easy come easy go, Dead Heart in A Dead World was the only album I found worth buying.... purchasing Enemies of Reality was a waste.

Fuck. One of the few metal bands I still REALLY like. This is either end Nevermore or make them worse, but either way this is the final of Nevermore. They can only go downhill from here. Yes I would like to be optimistic, but Nevermore were such a tightly knit group. Loomis was a HUGE element, and Williams always seemed to play what was required. They were both important to the band. I am a sad panda.

I wonder if Warrel Dane's focus on the Sanctuary reunion + new album played any part in this.

Man I was really looking forward to finally seein this band next month Wonder what's next....

Son of a bitch.. So this is why they dropped out of the show tomorrow night. I had tickets JUST for Nevermore and Soilwork.. And both bands dropped off the tour.

Woah that was unexpected, I was really hoping to catch them on their next tour too...
