New Opeth Album Reportedly Pushed Back Until August, Debut Single Not Released as Planned

"Cusp of Eternity" announced for May 6, wasn't released.

Ultimate Guitar

There seems to be something fishy going on with the release of new Opeth album "Pale Communion," as the "Cusp of Eternity" lead single wasn't released this Tuesday (May 6) as officially announced by Roadrunner Records.

Furthermore, pre-orders were also not made available, despite the label's announcement, causing an uproar among fans.

Only one fan complaint on the official Facebook page got a response and it was posted on a post related to Black Stone Cherry, another Roadrunner band. The fan asked when would the pre-orders kick off, just to get a sarcastic reply - "After you buy and listen to this, of course."

Metal Injection did some research on the matter, getting a confirmation from a "reliable source" that "Pale Communion" has been pushed back to August.

The lack of professionalism only got the fanbase more upset, but what makes the matter even worse is that no official explanation has been posted as of yet. Stay tuned for more updates.

That is a really annoying reply from Roadrunner, I doubt the guys in Opeth will be pleased with that one. Bummer though, I was hoping that this and Mastodon were gonna drop around the same time.
Roadrunner seem to be a bunch of *******s. I've not heard any band say anything good about them.
Considering Mastodon are Roadrunner too, you can still hope that their album will be delayed as well...
From the Roadrunner Records FB Wall…. We want new Opeth just as badly as you do, here's an official statement regarding Pale Communion: Roadrunner Records group Opeth has announced that the release of their highly anticipated eleventh studio album, Pale Communion has been reslated for August 26th. “Many of you have heard the rumours already and we can now confirm that the release of Pale Communion has indeed been pushed back to late August,” commented Opeth frontman, Mikael Åkerfeldt. “Several circumstances prevented the band from delivering essential tools to Roadrunner in time which are needed to set up the album release properly and release schedule conflicts made us mutually decide on August instead of June.” Pale Communion, which was produced by the band’s very own Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by longtime collaborator and Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, will be heralded by the lead single 'Cusp of Eternity' and available for pre-order starting Tuesday, June 3rd. Pre-orders for Pale Communion made via the iTunes Store will receive an instant download of 'Cusp of Eternity' as well as second album track to be released on July 15th, with multiple configurations also available via both the Roadrunner Records Webstore and O Merch.
I think everyone is over-reacting as far as Opeth ditching Roadrunner is concerned. There might be some internal discussions going on in between the parties, and all will be revealed soon enough. People don't make a big fuss when Tool does this with their upcoming album, maybe because they understand Tool's sense of humor. I'm not saying Opeth has a sense of humor similar to Tool and they're trolling their fans, but there might have been some last minute delays, forcing both the band and the label to delay the release of the single and possibly push the album release date further. I don't think this calls for hatred towards Roadrunner Records or all these assumptions that are pouring on Facebook, Reddit, UG and other metal websites.
The most logical and rational post ive seen about this yet. To bad the net is filled with so many trolls and invalids jumping to conclusions.
Shit, I was really excited to hear the new single. Oh well, hope its worth the wait.
Hahahaha andaaaaa.
Oh, and to any people who don't understand Spanish, edgar posted: "hahaha c'mon. what an ENORMOUS amount of bad articles I I've been reading lately. Truly, it's more like tabloid news than music news. I'm a fan and I'm not getting upset if it gets delayed; music requires time ¿Do we really need to point out these things nowadays? Looks that way" I replied that the music as already been recorded, mixed, and mastered so his argument doesn't apply.
El problema no es tanto el retraso, pero mira la respuesta que le puso Rodarunner a uno de los fans, es una completa falta de respeto...
I guess the owner of the band (Aka, the only member) had to take more time to insert more pointless cookie monster vocals in to ruin his otherwise good songs.
So much stupid in this post. A) There is more than one member. It is a project directed by Akerfeltd and he definitely writes the music, but this is not the only band to have a single mastermind. B) Describing anything about art as pointless is meaningless. You could say that about pretty much any part of art. The purpose of art is expression, so really there is no such thing as pointless. C) That's moot point since the last record was completely devoid of harsh vocals and this one is supposed to be as well. Congratulations on being 100% wrong.
Although nothing you said is wrong... Congratulations on being 100% butthurt
Calling "butthurt" on a well-argumented post, or the short guide how to be an internet douche with no effort.
You've honestly made me proud with that comment, because the last thing I want for myself in life is to be cool on the internet.
Many of the songs on the first few records wouldn't be half as powerful without the growls.
Eh nevermind, I was going to post the same thing LivetoROCK just posted xD
The good news is the release will no longer coincide with new Anathema, decreasing the risk of my brain exploding, but this is a weird situation. Waiting for the band to say something on the matter.
Official press release is here: tl;dr: Opeth dun goofed, so the Album couldn't get released in time. New Album release is 25th August. Pre-Orders start 3rd June and every pre-order get's an instant download for the first single 'Cusp Of Eternity'
at least we know it won't be as rescheduled as the tool album is
Laughable. Heritage was good, yet underwhelming. Why the hold up? Is Pale Communion really that good? Now everyone will be expecting an epic release from Opeth praying that the wait is worth it. Will it be? Eh, I'm not too sure. I guess we'll see. Fingers crossed for you, Opeth. I think this is your last chance to convince your fans that you still got it.
