Noel Gallagher has hit out at the music played on Radio 1, specifically One Direction's cover of Blondie's classic "One Way or Another," in an outspoken rant about modern day pop music, NME reports.
Gallagher made the comments, in which he accuses the boyband of "murdering" Blondie's 1978 track, in a new interview with GQ. The former Oasis songwriter says that Radio 1 has "no soul" and reveals his worries for the future of chart music.
Asked what he thinks of Radio 1, Gallagher said: "Pretty f--king dreadful, the music is. I can't get my head round pop music. It's all on the same frequency. It all seems designed to aggravate my teeth. You know music that makes your teeth hurt?" He adds: "There's a lack of soul on Radio 1. I mean, what is going to be the future of chart music?"
Moving onto One Direction, Gallagher highlights the number of people benefiting from their success while he is left losing. "Everybody's winning out of it. One Direction aren't working in the local f--king Costcutter, so they're winning. The geezer who's writing the f--king sh-t tunes - he's winning. He's got f--king new houses coming out of his earholes. The record company are winning 'cos they're all getting their f--king bonuses at Christmas."
Moving on to the boyband's fans, Gallagher adds: "The young 12-year-old girls are winning because one day they might actually grow up to give one of them a bl-wjob. They're all winning. No-one's losing. The only people who are losing are idiots like me at 9.30 in the morning when you're trying to get the kids out the door for school, and they're f--king murdering one of Blondie's songs."
