Universal Republic phenomenon Owl City reclaimed the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart this week after originally hitting the # 1 position two weeks ago with the smash hit "Fireflies." The song continues to break boundaries at radio as it is top 10 at both Top 40 and Hot AC formats along with impressive showings at Alternative, Triple A, and Rhythm Crossover making it one of the most requested songs in the US. "Fireflies" also sold an amazing 200,000 digital singles this week bringing sales totals over a million. Combining an impressive radio story, huge sales, a # 1 song, a sold out tour in the US as well as sold out shows in Asia this month are all parts in making Owl City the best new artist story of 2009. With Ocean Eyes on its way to Gold status Owl City just wrapped a highly-praised sold-out US tour. People who missed this past tour can catch Young's energizing show next year when Owl City hits the road again in January before touring Europe in February and then Australia and New Zealand in March. Hailing from the small Minnesota town of Owatonna, Minnesota, (population 22,000), Young's songs convey a singular simplicity that has rocked the 24/7 non-stop-chatter of an ultra-competitive music world. Calling his homemade-basement studio "the cave," other songs on the new album include "Vanilla Twilight," which is also climbing up the iTunes singles chart and "Cave In," "Umbrella Beach," "Dental Care," among others. In other news, Owl City has launched a new mobile contest to win an autographed Gibson SG Zoot Suit guitar. Contest runs through the end of the year (12/31). There are three ways to join: 01. Text OWLCITY to 66937 and join the mobile mob 02. Call Adam at 507-216-4583 and press 1 to leave him a message 03. Visit www.owlcitycontest.com As a mob member, you can receive texts and voicemails from Adam, exclusive content, tour info, and more contest opportunities.

Owl City is good and all but I think it gets a little repetitive, like I'm tired of Fireflies. So I'm glad different songs are getting looked at but it's good that Owl City is becoming popular.

Unknown Fear : Yeah I love the guitar in this song; this is such a good UG article
Too true man, I don't even think there is guitar in Owl City. Why is it on UG?

You guys are just pissy because it's not metal. Get used to it. There's more than one genre of music out there.

No, more because a band that doesn't feature guitars is being featured on a website dedicated to the guitar

Really UG, REALLY?! This "band" was some of the worst showcasing of guitar EVER, PROBABLY BECAUSE THERE WAS BARELY ANY. I briefly bought into the hype thinking "maybe theres some tunes by this band that will change my life." BOY WAS I EVER WRONG. Whats the deal with these guys? The songs were limp, and almost embarassing to listen to and even the singers' voice sounded canned. How is it that at the very least UG can exhibit these guys on the same playing field as Virtuosos like Muse, Them Crooked Vultures, or even Legends of the guitar like Joe Satriani? What the hell is going on here?! Quit shelling out for lame corporate douche-rock thats irrelevant on a guitar site, albeit a site dedicated to true talent.
