Ozzy Osbourne Fans Petition For Knighthood

An online petition is calling on Ozzy Osbourne fans to sign it and call for a knighthood.

Ultimate Guitar

Ozzy Osbourne fans are campaigning for the singer to get a knighthood with an online petition.

Australian fan Helen Maidiotis who started the petition originally wanted every member of Black Sabbath to be knighted, but decided to focus her energies on the Prince of Darkness.

Justifying her petition please, Helen said:

"[Ozzy] has been entertaining and inspiring a great many throughout his life, he has been a huge success world wide with many successful albums with both Black Sabbath as well as in his solo career. Now in his mid 60's, I believe the time has come for him to receive a Knighthood.

"Ozzy has been an inspiration to many great musicians over the last 40 years. He has taken a lot of young musicians under his wing along the way, from the late and great Randy Rhoads to Zakk Wylde and many others. He is a credit to his country."

428 people have signed the petition at time of writing. Can UG readers help make it to the 1000 target?

Yeh, Ozzy's done a great many great things. Like losing it completely and shooting 20 cats with a pumpgun and then cowering under the kitchen table. Then again, maybe I don't understand the prerequisites for knighthood...
Did anyone ever tell you that you're kindof boring or just a lame person in general?
If people think Ozzy's ready to be knighted, why hasn't Rick Allen of Def Leppard been knighted yet? He's the one person who I absolutely need to see knighted. HE LOST HIS MOTHERFUCKING ARM AND KEPT DRUMMING! If that's not unstoppable, I have no idea what the hell is.
I think Tony Iommi is more deserving of that title than Osbourne, but then again, when were knighthoods granted due to popular demand? This is ridiculous, if a petition like this succeeds, it will only be a matter of time before every Tom, Dick and Harry can be a knight.
Totally. Dude lost the top of a few digits, and still managed to change the face of guitar playing forever.
There was me thinking rock n roll was against the royals and their establishments.
I may be wrong about this... But didn't Tony Iommi/Geezer Butler write most Black Sabbath songs? If they're referring to Ozzy's solo career, didn't he like... not write that many songs? I love Ozzy, but if he didn't actually write the songs people credit him for, then why knighthood? Correct me if I'm wrong, people.
Given the fact he has "Ozzy" on his knuckles, I am not sure he can even write his own name without a crib sheet....
Ozzy wrote some songs for Black Sabbath, but Geezer wrote most of the lyrics. Ozzy put them to a melody, but sometimes it worked the other way round, sometimes Ozzy would sing a melody and Geezer would write lyrics to that melody. During his solo career, Ozzy would often just come up with a line or two and then proceed to write an entire song around it. Obviously he'd have never written anything instrumentally, but lyrics? All his for the most part.

"...but lyrics? All his for the most part." Ummm... No. Geezer wrote 99% of the lyrics in Sabbath (Ozzy even admits this; in fact he emphasized this fact in an interview not too long ago). During his solo career, Bob Daisley wrote the lyrics for Ozzy's first four five albums. Ozzy contributed very little lyrically, and since No More Tears, he has used outside songwriters.
Hasn't Ozzy lived in the US for a long time? Why would the English Knight someone who doesn't even live in country?
From Ozzy.com http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22... and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22... and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22... and http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22... x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x - x Apparently there already are groups for "Commission to Get Ozzy Osbourne Knighted," "Knight Ozzy Osbourne Already," and other variants. In the Commision group, most of the latest posts are from U.S. citizens. If you look, there are 3 other pages mirroring the Commission one, in Iceland, Spain, and North Korea - http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=22... That would be a good place to get started I'd think. Check out the members there. How many signatures do you need? Maybe what you could do is get as many UK citizens as you can to commit to getting at least 100 signatures apiece, more is a bonus. That could be done sitting outside record stores or outside rock clubs or at Ozzfest - wherever. Don't you think?
The knighthood is a joke. Just another way to glorify singers, actors, and entertainers. Back in the day with real knights, those people were called jesters.
And put on the same pedestal as Mick Jagger? BWAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAA! Honestly, not trying to be dick but Ozzy is really nothing that special. His annoying whiny singing voice is annoying and he didn't even write his own lyrics for Black Sabbath OR his solo career until Daisley packed up and left. A mediocre singer surrounded by outstanding musicians (he definitely knew how to pick a good guitarist). Honestly, he's mostly just image and no substance (unless you wanna count THOSE types of substances!). Why people hink he should get a knighthood is beyond me. If anyone from the Sabbath camp deserves a knighthood it would be Tony.
