Ozzy Osbourne Named 'Greatest Rock Star In The World'

According to Blabbermouth.net, Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne was named as the "greatest rock star in the world today" by the readers of the U.K. music magazine Kerrang! In hailing Ozzy as the world's greatest rock star, Kerrang said: "In June he proved why he's the biggest musical star in the firmament. He sang like the devil himself [during an appearance at the U.K.'s Download festival with Black Sabbath]: wild power thundering from his mic." Ozzy's Sabbath bandmate Tony Iommi also landed in the top ten, with Kerrang! magazine describing him as "a metal god with a backbone of pure steel". Iommi was diagnosed with cancer late last year, forcing Sabbath to drastically curtail its touring plans and move the recording of the band's new album to London, so that Iommi could remain close to his doctors.

Tbh the whole thing doesn't mean much when the douche from BVB got third

It's all subjective. I think the real story should be the lack of modern day rock stars in comparison to years past. Who cares which one is the biggest.

Its probably best if it stays that way

You can thank Black Sabbath Ozzy era that your beloved Metallica is around.

I do agree with you on the fact that ozzy himself is not a great singer. He has a limited vocal range and stuff, but the way he sang in black sabbath just suited the early style Of sabbath. Ronnie James Dio is tons better vocal wise, but it just didn't match sabbath the same as Ozzys doom way. Both made awesome music in sabbath though

tbh, I'd say Dave Grohl or Josh Homme probably What has Ozzy done in the past 15 years besides mumble incoherently in his reality show and WoW commercials?

I wish UG would get a better front page picture of Ozzy than that one where he looks like they caught him putting his contacts in.

Ozzy isn't the best singer out there but his voice and delivery suited early Sabbath perfectly.

People are complaining about this? Pretty sure he deserves to be there. 1) He was an original member that helped to shape metal 2) He wrote songs that are still popular and well known today 3) He has had some of the most memorable stage acts around (no, not the bat thing, accidents don't count) 4) He is one of the biggest influences to many artists in many genres of music, even to this day 5) He is a darn talented singer with one of the most recognizable voices around. Never heard the song before? You still know it's Ozzy. His vocal range is also better than people think, it's just UG is filled with idiots that think they know things. 6) He has done enough abusive substances to kill a large country 7) He lived his life doing, well, whatever. Why? Because the fame and money could have stopped at any moment, so may aswell get f**ked up and do everything before it happens. All this and more. He makes most other musicians lives seem boring and uneventful. He is the definition of rock star. You know what...Read 'I am Ozzy', then argue that he shouldn't be number 1.

With all due respect, the list was 'The greatest rockstars in the world today ."

Are you high? Dave Grohl is one of the few true rock stars of the modern world. I can't even list everything he's been involved in that's had huge impacts on rock today. The only person alive today whom I feel comes close to beating him is Josh Homme.

And you people who say he's washed up, old, crazy, or whatever just bug the shit outta me! It DOESNT matter what hes like NOW!...the guy is a legend. He can be whatever the hell he wants. He's already established himself and has a legacy. That's the problem with this younger generation of music fans....always waiting for the "next best thing" that you don't even understand what it means to have respect and appreciate where all YOUR shit came from. If Steve Jobs were still alive would you say "Jeez Steve, the IPod totally sucks now that we've got IPads and IPhones." etc. The IPod was still a genius invention when it came out and paved the way for all the new stuff. Same deal here. It doesn't matter what Ozzy is now...he's f**kin Ozzy Osbourne! Gee, Roger Waters you haven't done anything cool since dark side of the moon. Ya know what I'd say to you retards?....."so what, I f**kin wrote dark side of the moon bitches!"

Regardless of what you think of Foo Fighters Nickleback is far worse, Dave could probably shit a Nickleback song.

you have no idea what you're talking about

Everyone in the UK can watch the Classic Albums: Black Sabbath: Paranoid on BBC iPlayer. There's also a documentary about Ozzy's road to sobriety on there. Just thought some of you may be interested.

I didn't get to see the list yet, but I think i'm gonna go Mick Jagger on this one

I dont care for putting labels on "the best", it's so subjective. Of course you could name off multiple people and call them the best, depends what point you're looking from. Same as other polls, you're going to have people that disagree and think other underrated acts are better, sometimes they are. Ozzy has been a face for rock ad metal, and hardly anyone doesn't know who he is. So he's not a terrible choice, even if I don't like his more recent stuff. It's like how Jimi Hendrix is the "greatest guitarist", there's too many factors to name a best

If so: 8) Still makes good music, and didn't turn into a joke at the end of the 90's like Ozzy did. 9) Didn't get his balls cut off by a she-bitch. 10) One of the only - if not THE only - true rockstars left.
    Well played sir, well played.

Its Kerrang, the list is bound to be terrible. The guys from bmth and bvb will be deemed as the coolest most hard rocking guys in music. It's all fan voted, and they have completely forget about music from the past 50 years.

"Somebody released a top-something list" serves no other purpose than get certain names to appear and are pure PR manipulations.

I bit a head off a bat the other night. It was like eating a crunchie in a bit of chamois leather. - Ozzy Osbourne on biting the head off a bat.

Did I srsly just ****ing read that nickelback is more talented than the foo fighters?? wtf is wrong with the world, how many people on ultimate guitar actually play guitar? The foo fighters use interesting chords aside from the standard major and minor. Foo fighters may have a popesque sound to their music but last time I checked Dave Grohl was the only person (I've heard of anyway) to record his drum tracks one drum at a time for maximum clarity. He played with john paul jones in them crooked vultures and his guitars always have bitchin harmonies wtf? nickleback? NICKELBACK!!? Fuckn srsly? Bitch you best be trollin

Well please elaborate on why Foo Fighters are so amazing.
He's done more than Foo Fighters He's probably done more session work and played for a bigger amount of bands than any other musician as well known as he is And besides, Foo Fighters is related to Sunny Day Real Estate and that automatically makes them better than Nickelback

say what you want, no disrespect to ozzy but i'd say Lemmy is way more a rockstar than ozzy!

Okay, so he has a Rock Star personality and he's a cool guy. How does that make the Foo Fighters' music different from Nickelback?

As much as I generally hate "World's greatest" etc. opinion polls, this isn't really one I can argue with. Considering his talents, success, influence and sheer perseverance to live through s**t that would kill 99.9% of other people; there aren't a lot of rockstars around on a par with Ozzy =D

IDC if this gets thumbed down btw. Whoever made it in the list have made records and are popular. It's better than getting Dappy or other posers on the list. And I can't see you guys being more productive than them, if you're so good, let's see you become as popular as them. If you compose a piece, you'd hate it if everyone said it was shit. Fine the list isn't perfect (far off it) but stop with the hate. Already some nobs got rid of patrick stump. I've had it with haters and have no respect for them.

I suppose I just have to chime in here....first of all, Ozzy DEF deserves to be on the list, and way up there. Maybe not the winner but still up there. And all these bitches who complain about the way he sings?...you're f**kin high! The guy can sing and he does have a decent range. Not only that but NO ONE sounds like Ozzy. Whenever you hear his voice, especially if it's a song you've never heard, you just KNOW it's him. That's distinction. A stand-out. He's an icon for the whole CONCEPT of rock music for Christ 's sake! You can't argue it, it's just a fact. And I'm not even an Ozzy fan! I like a bunch of his songs but don't follow him too much. As far as the Dave Grohl s**t goes....sorry fellas, he IS highly overrated. Great musician and guy all around but seriously people?...he isn't a rock god. Not yet anyway. He is a radio friendly rocker....no different than Nickelback, just more talented and doing what he does for the RIGHT reasons, not selling out. Seether? Totally different category bcuz they are just NOW (with latest album) becoming radio friendly. Go back to their earlier work, except Broken, and it'll knock you on your ass.

At least it's Kerrang! which is a somewhat respectable source. These polls lately have been beyond stupid. Ozzy deserves to be called "greatest rock star in the world today". Awesome!
    rapprocka1017
Yeah, I'm not arguing about THAT, Dave Grohl isn't even on the list. I'm wondering why everyone likes them so much if they're so mediocre.
