Ozzy Osbourne has revealed in a recent interview with Classic Rock Magazine that he has, for the time being, parted ways with guitarist Zakk Wylde in order to pursue a new guitarist and a new sound.

"Well, I'm getting a new guitar player as we speak and everyone has been saying to me for a long time, Get Johnny 5 (the guitarist best known for his work with Marylyn Manson and Rob Zombie)'," says Osbourne. "I tried him at one time and I didn't really give him a chance. We'll see, I don't know. I haven't fallen out with Zakk, but Zakk's got his own band, and I felt like my stuff was beginning to sound like Black Label Society. I just felt like I wanted a change, y'know?"

"I've got a guy from Greece coming in not the musical, the country of Greece but I'm not going to say too much about it, cos I don't know myself at this point," he adds. "I've got a new album, I'm working on it as we speak. I've got a studio at my house and I've got a guy called Kevin Churko, the guy that [produced] the last album he's great to work with."

Whether this marks the end of Wylde's career with Osbourne is still up in the air. After all, this isn't the first time the singer has worked with other guitarists since hiring Wylde in 1987. Ozzy has also made it very clear in the interview that there were no hard feelings between the two and that he just wants to try something different. But what about the material Zakk has already recorded for Ozzy's upcoming album?

"Oh yeah. Zakk came down and did a bunch of stuff and I don't know if I want to use it but I've got it there if I do," Osbourne says. "And this Kevin Churko is a bit of an all-rounder so I'm getting back to basics in some respects. One thing about a guy who can't do all the finger-tapping stuff is that he plays better on the riffs cos it's not all [hums riff for Iron Man followed by over-the-top widdling]."

Even though his work with Ozzy Osbourne may have been cut short, Wylde will still remain busy as his band Black Label Society is about to embark on their "Pedal To The Metal Tour 2009" which will hit cities all across the United States later this month and into September. The full list of dates can be seen at the band's website. The band is also said to be working on a follow-up to 2006's "Shot To Hell."

Let's hope Zakk gets back to doing some more Black Label because I have been missing a new album. Actually I'd prefer some more Pride & Glory, but like that would happen

    That or john 5, lol

I think its good that he stopped working with Zakk, his playing gets old after a while. Yeah, its fast and I can't play most of what he can play, but recently about 90% of his playing just bores me.

I think it's pretty funny that everybody puts down Zakk Wylde. I mean give the guy credit, it's hard to fill Randy Rhoads shoes. Nobody will ever replace, him people can try, but they just can't. I think Zakk Wylde has did a good job trying though. And I've heard a lot of people talk about "oh ozzy sounds too much like bls now" Well, Zakk can't just come in and change his complete playing style for ozzy or any band at that. If you ever heard Pride and Glory you would know that Zakk Wylde was a great southern rock player and it was ozzy that told him that he needed to quit playing southern rock and start playing metal. so i guess you could say he has changed his style for him. but he cant change his playing style completely. he plays what he likes to play. and he may run scales like nobody else and do pinch harmonics every note but he is damn good at it. you may call him unoriginal, but really, who else has a sound like zakk wylde does? nobody. and if you know somebody that sounds like him, plz let me know.

I reeeeeaaaaally hope he'll give Buckethead another chance and accepthim for his superhero identity, and to be honest I really don't like John 5.

good. finally he drops zakk. zakk wylde is so visually unnapealing. that stupid fluffy beard, stringy/greasy long hair, and the same b.s. design on every guitar was really really old.

What about that dude from Vince Neil's solo band. His style might match up well..

IMO, that's a good thing. Ozzy's been going downhill for years. But then again, that would probably mean no new Buckethead album, so that would be bad.

The new guitarist is probably someone from "America's got Talent" if it is Sharon that chooses the new guy

Hopefully Ozzy would get some young gun who nobody has ever heard of. A new guitar figure would be a nice addition to the music world

Yeah as far as pro guitarists go Zakk was my least favourite but he grew on me i like BLS now, wouldnt mind hearing some new stuff.

Zak is one of my freakin heroes and there is nothin wrong with opening other doors..I cant wait to hear the new Ozzy stuff....I think he should pull someone that nobody knows or heard just because. "METAL IN YOUR F#$%@ING FACE"!!!!

Randy was GOD!!! He was the only guitarist that I saw play with Ozzy that drew your attention away from Ozzy.(and i've been around long enough to have seen 'em all) He was that good on stage.Thats all that dude wanted to do was just PLAY, and it showed. Give Zakk credit, Who else but Sharon could put up with Ozzy's shit for more than 20 years. LOL. As for a replacement....I'd like to see a new face hit the scene. Not somebody who's playing is already out there. So quit all the bitchin' about who's better than who...They're all kick ass! It's who fits best with Ozzy's style, not really who is the best. Nobody can replace Randy!!! R.I.P.

Totally agree. Also, in my opinion John 5 is miles beyond Zakk.

Thank god! Zakk Wylde in my opinion is an awful guitarist. And why the f*** can't he go five seconds without pinching? Also whats up with this look like he just crawled out of a garbage can? Anyways maybe we can actually get another good Ozzy album finally.

"Ozzy is irrelevant in 2009" Seriously? Get real. He's still the face of metal as much as anybody is...

I'm very curious to see who he chooses. As for Buckethead, I'm almost positive that he won't have another shot with Ozzy... He's already got his style down to a science, and it would just make Ozzy's music sound like Buckethead... I would be curious to see John5, or maybe even a guitarist who's had affiliations with Trent Reznor... What a sound that would be...

I wish Ozzy could just bring himself to work with Black Sabbath again. Its never going to happen, but I would greatly prefer the original lineup of Sabbath than hear Ozzy's solo stuff.
    giltaylor
I`ts not about topping anything ....I`ts about doin what you love because you can and your good at it....and doesnt matter where Ozzy is when he goes out he`s made an incredible run at it and that speaks for itself.....If he was in a wheelchair? I`d STILL pay to go f@#$ing see him!!!! "Fairies wear boots and gotta believe me"....OZZY STILL F@#$ING RULES!!!!

wow pretty bold mood by ozzy but i think it needed to be done. i hope he gets someone awesome. well one thing that may be interesting would be since velvet revolver is on a break maybe slash would audition that might be something new and cool.

I would have to agree , nobody will ever fill in randy's shoes .But i also agree with Harvestorofpain it should be interesting.

No one will ever "surpass" Randy. Even if their playing is considered better people will still be like "oh no Randy would be so much better"
    HarvesterofPain
Personally, I think this will be good for both of them. A chance to try something new for Ozzy(even if it's just for a short remainder of time), and for Zakk to focus inward a bit more and really refine his Black Label sound. Either way, let's not set this in stone just yet. This article was written on the 9th, and Zakk hadn't heard anything about this till he read it himself. Ozz and Zakk are supposed to be meeting about it today(probably already have).

randy , jake , zakk whos next.Probably wont be as good as these 3 . but so far ozzy has had god like guitar players .
    blasphemus666
sucks that zakk isnt in it anymore but he's still got black label which is a really badass band. John 5 is pretty cool too. curious to hear his new sound

i think ozzy needs to get back on the drugs so he can start thinking clearly again. i mean first black rain now he's dropping zakk what the **** is he thinking.
