Though Vinnie Paul has dismissed the idea of a Pantera reformation without his brother Dimebag Darrell as "ridiculous," fans of the band are calling for a reunion tour in tribute to the late guitarist.

Fans on Facebook are banding together to ask Texas groove metal act Pantera's surviving members Vinnie Paul, Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo to play either a one-off show or a series of US shows in memory of Dimebag.

The fans specifiy that they are not calling for the band to reform, only to reunite for a single show or single tour.

The fans are making it clear that they do not want the band to attempt to "replace" Dimebag Darrell in any permanent capacity, and are instead suggesting possible guest guitarists to appear on the tour. Comments on the Facebook Cause page seem to favor recruiting former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde to fill in, though the idea of having multiple guest guitarists is also popular.

The fans' request comes only days after Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott slammed the idea of a Pantera reformation in an interview with the Russian e-zine Darkside, saying:

"It's ridiculous. Dime was such a huge part of it; it would be just completely asinine to even consider that. I think it's pretty disrespectful from people to even suggest it."

I think this would be great . Going on without Dimebag would be shit , but for a one-off thing , I think its great . Just hopefully they get a great guitarist who can replicate most of Dimebag's stuff .

While this is somewhat understandable, Vinnie Paul has already said no. I don't think this will make him change his mind. If anything, it'll be more realistic to have this tribute show in 2014, 10 years after his departure.

I completely understand Vinnie's side 110%... But what if it's a one-off show where the proceeds go to a charity that Dime or the band would feel comfortable giving to? They have a gift that people love. Why not reciprocate this into something positive for less fortunate people or charities?

This wouldn't be a terrible idea if it was back in 2004 or 2005, but in the year 2011 it just sounds wrong. No one would be able to replicate Dimebag's stage presence and personality. In 2014 it wouldn't seem like a bad idea to have a bunch of guitarists play in honor of Dime and express the memories they had with him as a one show thing, but for the time being just respect Vinnie's wishes. RIP DIME

although i love pantera i would rather if they didn't do this. dimebag was a huge part of the band and it definitely would not be the same. pantera died with dimebag and no on will ever be able to replace him.

I'm sorry; but I think its ridiculous to have any reunion without Dime, it just wouldn't be the same no matter how hard they tried...

I think a tribute show with a bunch of differant guitartist playing differant Pantera songs sounds cool....

Considering how close a friend Zakk was to Dimebag this seems like an amazing idea

i honestly dont like pantera at all. that being said, i think it would be so sick if they did this. especially if they did it because the fans begged them to. it would say alot about both the fans and the band

    Exactly.

Zakk does add a pinch harm every 3 seconds, but I don't think he would if he were playing a tribute show for Dime. I think he would play everything note for note because it seems disrespectful to say "Ok Dime, this is how I would play it! You should have punched this, this, this, this, and this." Doesn't matter, this won't happen anyway. Dime's widow said she'd put a bullet in Phil's head if he came to Dime's funeral. Why would she be ok with any type of show?

I am a huge fan of Zakk but leave Dime's memory alone. We all have him close to us in past performances we've seen and his music.

Stupid idea. Stupid stupid idea. I'm dissapointed I never got a chance to watch one of the greatest bands in the world perform but I would be disgusted if they reformed since Dime's death. Stupid stupid idea.

Clearly, you've never had a family member die. You're liekly what, 15? Dime was his brother! Bringing up past memories of a fallen loved one and trying to re-live them can be a brutal thing to undergo. It's not as simple as getting up and playing with any old jaok off. This is his dead brothers memory he has to live with. Don't hate unless you're willing to step into the oppositions shoes. I'd love to see a one off show, but if Vin doesn't want to do it because in his mind it's disrespectful of HIS DEAD BROTHER than so be it.

I have been a fan for only 7 years or so, and this is a terrible idea. Dimebag was Pantera, and sadly they died with him. Sure, you still got Phil, Vinnie and Rex, but I know I listen to Pantera for the guitar more than anything. If this were to happen they shouldn't even tour as Pantera, because let's face it, it wouldn't be Pantera any ways. It'd be like Black Sabbath without Iommi.

These people have a ton of nerve calling themselves fans, any true fan would know why this is an impossibility. That and Zack Wylde of all people!? Don't get me wrong his original stuff is good but in my opinion he is HORRIBLE at playing other peoples' music. It would be neat if they reformed as a different band, but as Pantera? No.....just no
    true_bacon22
I'm not even a Pantera fan and even I find this ludicrous, it be the same as Zeppelin touring without Page, or Death touring with Chuck.
    Iommianity
Personally, I don't think Pantera were the greatest ever, or anywhere close, let alone innovative. But they were a solid band with an untarnished legacy really, and to have guys like Zakk playing the songs just sounds like a bogus gimmick. I know they'd all be doing it with the best of intentions, but I find his playing boring or decent at best. What happened to Book of Shadows Zakk Wylde? From the biggest Pantera fan to people who want nothing to do with them, Pantera is Dimebag, and Dimebag is Pantera. End of story.

ZAKK WOULD DO AN AWESOME JOB AND I THINK ITS A GREAT IDEA!!!! JUST AS A ONE OFF SHOW AND A TRIBUTE, NOT A REUNION!
    ProgJazzMath
I respect his decision greatly, although it would be nice to see a performance, but without Dimebag, you really have no Pantera. No offense Pantera fans.
    Carndawgy
pantera reunion with a fill in would be great.. just wouldnt want it to be a total Dime tribute. i dont think would want it either. pantera is greater than to sum of its parts. sure, pay respect to dime, but i think the focus should be on Pantera as a whole, not just a massive dime send off

Well A7X continued as a band without The Rev, and Pantera wont get together to do a f*cking show?!?
    thrash-it-up
Dimebag was (arguably) the most talented member of pantera, and also the most irreplaceable, this couldnt happen
    ed_the_head
it wouldn't be right. but i would love to see some kind of tribute like Queen did when they invited various vocalists to perform on Wembley in honor of Freddie Mercury.
    shreducator
I'm definitely against a reformation, but like a one off tribute show would be phenomenal! I think Zakk Wylde would be honored to fill in for Dime. Hell, plenty of guitarists would.
    Geo Rules
I couldn't think of a more appropriate guitarist to fill in for Dime than Zakk.

Thank you! But seriously, even without Vinnie flat-out saying "no", this couldn't happen. Let's just say, for the sake of arguement, the 3 remaining members were onstage with some high-talent guest (pick any one, it doesn't matter). The energy wouldn't be the same. Dime & Vinnie weren't just siblings, they were musical soulmates. Even if you found a guitarist who could perfectly emulate Dime note for note on every song, it still wouldn't click. Besides, Vinnie & Dime were real vocal about Pantera never reforming even before that tragic night. Plus, for all we know, the tought of it may still hurt Vinnie. I consider myself very, very lucky for having seen Pantera back in 1998. But I missed Damageplan

I like this idea. Syn Gates can play Walk.. TEEHEEEHEE

To Vinny, Phil and Rex. Please use a different name not Pantera. There's no reason to replace Dime at all.
    Campion95
I would love this to happen but theres no replacing Dime, but Zakk Wylde would be the best replacement. Him & Dime were best friends also Syn Gates shud never be allowed into Pantera. He has good technical skill but his style is totally different to Dimes.

I agree with Vinnie on this. No Reunion. Keep the Pantera legacy intact as is.

+1000 The band doesn't want to do it, and it's pretty damned disrespectful to try and force them to. As for the people spouting that A7X nonsense: different groups of people decide to do different things. The fact that A7X kept going without Jimmy doesn't mean it's no longer reasonable to want to call it quits after a bandmember (and in

A one-off show for charity held in Texas would be a more than fitting tribute, not an entire tour though. Sadly, I doubt this will ever happen, not because of Dimebag's absence, but because Vinnie & Rita want absolutely nothing to do with Phil ever again.

Yeah, you see, it's kind of hard to if you've never been away from your brother for over 35 years and he's suddenly taken away from you for selfish reasons. Selfish, much like asking someone to do something they don't want to just for pleasure. Sounds kind of like people asking for a show the drummer really doesn't feel is right. I don't think it's fair to call him a dumbass either. His brother was killed. He hates Phil. I think there is someone here who is a little ignorant and it isn't Vinnie Paul.

I don't think it will be so good as they were without dimebag.., but it would be great to see! I said it because Im one hell of a fan!
    False_God
I think it would be a great tribute to Dime. Look at Alice In Chains when they got different vocalists to do different songs, it was awesome tbh. People need to realise no one is replacing him or mimicing him. Pantera is finished obviously but a tribute show would be special.

cool idea...but DIME IS PANTERA. If you wanna pay tribute to Dime...sit back, take a shot of crown and blast some Pantera

Would be good and Zakk would be a good fit, not only because he was one of his best friends, but because he can handle it technically. Like darkfire stated tho, hopefully he wouldn't litter the songs with pinch harmonics lol.
