Though Vinnie Paul has dismissed the idea of a Pantera reformation without his brother Dimebag Darrell as "ridiculous," fans of the band are calling for a reunion tour in tribute to the late guitarist.

Fans on Facebook are banding together to ask Texas groove metal act Pantera's surviving members Vinnie Paul, Rex Brown and Phil Anselmo to play either a one-off show or a series of US shows in memory of Dimebag.

The fans specifiy that they are not calling for the band to reform, only to reunite for a single show or single tour.

The fans are making it clear that they do not want the band to attempt to "replace" Dimebag Darrell in any permanent capacity, and are instead suggesting possible guest guitarists to appear on the tour. Comments on the Facebook Cause page seem to favor recruiting former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Zakk Wylde to fill in, though the idea of having multiple guest guitarists is also popular.

The fans' request comes only days after Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott slammed the idea of a Pantera reformation in an interview with the Russian e-zine Darkside, saying:

"It's ridiculous. Dime was such a huge part of it; it would be just completely asinine to even consider that. I think it's pretty disrespectful from people to even suggest it."

I think this would be great . Going on without Dimebag would be shit , but for a one-off thing , I think its great . Just hopefully they get a great guitarist who can replicate most of Dimebag's stuff .

While this is somewhat understandable, Vinnie Paul has already said no. I don't think this will make him change his mind. If anything, it'll be more realistic to have this tribute show in 2014, 10 years after his departure.

I completely understand Vinnie's side 110%... But what if it's a one-off show where the proceeds go to a charity that Dime or the band would feel comfortable giving to? They have a gift that people love. Why not reciprocate this into something positive for less fortunate people or charities?

People are really, really, stupid. There is absolutely no way there could ever be a Pantera concert without Dimebag, even if it is a one off show. Besides, many times Vinnie has mentioned that he will never step in the same room as Phil again.

wtf, im a huge pantera fan and aint requestin sh!t, phil and vinnie hate each other and if they do play with zak wylde, we'll have to hear the same pinch harmonic over and over

No kidding. If anyone decides to interview him after the show, you'll hear the same "ya know" over and over again.

This! I mean Zakk can rip.. but do you really have to pinch everything? Anybody remember the murder of Crazy Train at the Ozzy induction to the RRHF? I nearly stabbed myself out of anger!

Vinnie is kind of right, Pnatera is a awesome band and it wouldn't be the same without Dime. Let Pantera rest in piece.

I honestly don't see this happening. Who the hell can not even replace, but even imitate for one show what dime was? It wouldn't be right....

Wow, you get called a dumbass because you're trying to be respectful to your departed brother and bandmate? Theres some dumbasses here, but none of them are Vinnie Paul!!!!! R.I.P Dimebag, to quote a Bad Company song, "If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play".

Darkside: Vinnie, I have read some speculations online regarding the possibility of you ever re-creating PANTERA without Dime [late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott]. I don't know what triggered these speculations, but what do you have to say to these people? Vinnie: It's ridiculous. Dime was such a huge part of it; it would be just completely asinine to even consider that. I think it's pretty disrespectful from people to even suggest it. He left an amazing legacy and it's gonna be left untouched, it's beautiful, it's pristine and I wanna leave it that way. I am really proud of what I do with this band [HELLYEAH]. Of course, the history of PANTERA speaks for itself. I want him to always be known as "the dude," you know. Period. Forever. The real article doesn't seem as bad as it's made here!

I think zakk wylde could definitely step in as the guest guitarist and it'd be awesome. I dont think its disrespectful at all. If they did a one off show or a tour it would be a massive dime party and a huge tribute. I've seen pantera and black label a couple times and zakks really the only person that makes sense to do this. Anyway i hope it happens but i doubt it will.

if it's just a one off thing with many guitar players playing there favourite Pantera song(kinda like the Freddy Mercury tribute concert) this could be a cool thing. although I don't see this happening in the near future.

Dean Guitars really needs to stop riding on dimebag's back and dedicating half of their guitars to him..... at first they showed proper tribute but now they area really overdoing it

I think instead Vinnie, Rex, Phil should make a new band with Zakk Wylde. Sure they could play some Pantera covers in their set, but the band shouldn't be called Pantera

totally agree, i honestly think pantera is doing the right choice by playing without dimebag, they know for sure, what its like to play without dimebag and they don't want to mess up that band in anyway
    5MinutesAlone
Well there's no Pantera without Dime for sure. Any reunion tour would have a lame feeling to it
    FooCards
I myself would not want these guys to reform. If they did, a rotation of Wylde, Cantrell, Hammett, etc would be kinda cool.

This idea is ridiculous. But there's reasonable points to both sides. Alice in Chains, Avenged Sevenfold, AC/DC, and many other bands have continued on without their member. But it's DIME! And it's VINNIE's BROTHER! We CANNOT have a Pantera show without the man who made up half of Pantera.

i know no one can replace dimebag but it be cool if they had synyster gates (A7X) and Mike Paget (BFMV) to play a show with pantera to honor dimebag for his accomplishes, since the band inspired a7X and BFMV for their music. idk just saying. wouldnt be a bad idea to honor dimebag.
    DrCOOL
I'm with Vinnie. Pantera is done for good. You can't play that music without Dime.

It'll never happen, but I don't think the suggestion of a tour with guest guitarists would be "disrespectful" at all. I think it would be a great tribute.

i've met a7x several times and theyve never been anything but humble and grateful, heck we even took shots together. While i'd love to see those 3 play together it wouldnt be the same without dime. a tribute is def needed though
    iljh
I think a one time tribute show wouldn't be a prob with multiple people filling in. Like Zakk Wylde or EVH and Synyster Gates and whoever else was an influence or influenced so long as they can do it. It would be made clear as a TRIBUTE show, not a reunion. I think Vin is being rude calling fans disrespectful because we respect Pantara's music just as much as he does. I understand that he doesn't want to play without is brother. But why diss us fans with that comment? The main reason he doesn't want to is just so he doesn't have to see Phil again is what that makes me think.

Because Zakk Wylde was one of Dimes closest friends, that's why, "In This River" by Zakks band Black Label Society was actually a tribute to Dime you moron.

Zakk can't touch anything Dime did. Not the tone, not the techniques (whammy bar anyone?). Zakk would just shit all over the songs with his pentatonics and choked tone.

I agree with Vinnie on this one... Although I would be there if it happened!

How can that song be a tribute originally, if the song was written a year before his death, released six months before his death, and they were on tour playing the song at the time of his death? He LATER on said that he would play that song in tribute, BIG difference.

Im with you vinnie. Dime is a legend will always be. I respect you. I am a big fan of him. I looked up to him when i played the guitar for the first time. Till this day i still do and always will. God bless you Vinnie.

It'd be cool if it was a one night only kind of affair, with different guitarists for each song, perhaps many on on some songs. and dudes like James Hetfield, Eddie Van Halen, even Zakk Wylde could play Pantera. I'd be ****in sweet

Wow i wish, if it happened please please please come to the uk, there are fans outside of the us

I like this idea. Although, I'm on Vinnie's side.

There are many different opinions about this. I still think that a tribute to Dimebag would be amazing. Have guitarists like Eddie Van Halen play in the tribute show. I mean it would be in no way a disrespect to Dimebag and he had the kind of character who would love that kind of idea. Well judging from what everyone says about him and documentaries etc. I just think Vinnie is a little ignorant about it because he just doesnt wanna see Phil.... just saying.

Eddie Van Halen, Kerry King, Zakk wylde etc

they could do a show where on every song a different guitarist plays, i am sure there would be many people more than willing to do so.

I think its complete and utter bulls***!...vinnie paul is right no dimebag no Pantera ..Ever!!..coming from a lifetime fan of dimebag darrell/Pantera. even though zakk may be an amazing player thers juist no way he could play just like dime..I personally dont want a reunion tour cuz i wanna remember pantera just as they were...Im not trying to start a fight or anything but im just backin vinnie on this one for sure...I have the utmost respect for Dime and Pantera alike, Dime was 1 Hellofa a man and he will never be forgotten

There is no way this will ever happen. Fans have been requesting this ever since they split up, this is old news.

The difference with those bands and Pantera is that Pantera was not together when Dime was murdered. Pantera was finished. With those other bands their work wasn't done yet. To bring Pantera back together now would be in poor taste and would be exploiting Dime's death IMO. The idea of a one off show sounds good from a fans perspective, but we need to realise that to Vinnie has lost a family member. His brother who was murdered in front of him. If he doesn't want to go out and play those songs anymore, if its too hard for him to contemplate playing Pantera songs without Dime, nobody should pressure him into it. Believe it or not, not everything is about what the fans want. The musicians need to put themselves first as people sometimes. I think this is one of those times.
    awesomeness
I don't understand his view that a Pantera reunion would be disrespecting Dime! If anything, that would show the utmost respect for the man who created such amazing music. Having more people enjoy what Dime created would be a great way of remembering him.

Lots of bands out there that would be willing. A7X, Disturbed, Bullet, Trivium, Black Label Society, Slayer to name a FEW. I am not in any way affiliated with the above bands, I was merely making a point.
