There have been several attempts by fans to both initiate and prevent a reunion of the remaining members of Pantera with guest guitarists. The latest report claims that Vinnie Paul laughed at a recent attempt to get him on board.

The Metal Den is reporting that a source close to drummer Vinnie Paul says he was offered a "large sum of money" to participate in a one off reunion with the surviving members of Pantera. The event would've saw Vinnie Paul reunite with bassist Rex Brown and vocalist Phil Anselmo while guest guitarists would be in the place of Dimebag Darrell - who was tragically murdered onstage in 2004.

There was a strong reaction to previous rumors that Zakk Wylde would fill in for the late Dimebag in a Pantera reunion, with a lot of fans coming out against the idea. Those fans will be happy to know that Vinnie Paul reportedly laughed the new offer "right off the table". Pantera fans will however be gifted with the band's only unreleased track "P-ss", which was originally recorded for "Vulgar Display Of Power" and will appear on the upcoming reissue.

Vinnie Paul continues his work with members of Mudvayne and Nothingface in the band Hellyeah, who are set to release their third studio album "Band Of Brothers" this June.

Thanks for the report to Banana1015.com.

be in the place of Dimebag Darrell
here's the only mistake. One does not simply replace Dimebag, pal

Pantera should never ever reunite without Dime. Period. Dime's never coming back from the dead for this.

Oh god, Pantera with Zakk Wylde. Setlist would read as following: Cemetary Squeals 5 Minutes to Squeal I'm Squealin Drag the Squealers And then closing, of course, with the classic Planet Squealavan

And what...? Vinnie is not a ***** for trying to preserve the memory of his brother.

I honestly wouldn't mind this... Who wouldn't mind going to see Vinnie, Rex and Phil play Pantera songs live again with guest guitarists paying tribute to Dimebag? I think if handled the right way, it could be a respectful and class move.

I would have loved to have seen that show!! but i agree with suicidalfreak.. if there is no dime.. its not pantera!!

I had a mini heart attack when I seen "Pantera Reunion" Then I read the rest of the title... It'd be cool to have a show where a load of guitarists stepped in instead of a reunion show/tour with just Zakk Wylde... Cause that wouldn't really work...

Sounds good to me. Maybe because i was never a Dime fanboy. He was good though, plenty of other guitarists around - let 'em fill in. Besides, honouring a great guitarist by letting some of the best guitarists today step in and pay homage to him is well.. How can that be offensive? Kind of beautiful if anything

Hahaha nice on one .Personally i find his squealies highly irratating and totally overused.

Why all the hostility towards Zakk? Surely he would be a good choice to replace Dime for like a one off tour or something, not a proper reunion obviously
    GuilT
What would it hurt to get together and bang out some Pantera classics for shits and giggles with Zakk Wylde? That would be pretty awesome and a decent homage to the late, great dime. They don't have to call it Pantera.

I understand Vinnie completely. I still think a one-off show for a charity Dime maybe supported would be cool. Just a bunch of cool guitarists chipping in and paying tribute; Zakk Wylde, Robb Flynn, James Hetfield, etc.
    AxlVanhalen
No offense to Dime, but Pantera wasnt just Dime....seing Rex, Vinnie, and Phil all back together would be amazing! and Zakk is the only person that could fill in for Dime.....Dime and Zakk were like brothers and Zakk would do an amazing job in Dimes Honor!
    Engel22
Pantera with a revolving door of guitarists would be cool, but nobody could replace Dimebag full time. Dimebag's grooves were a big part in the musical structure and indeed the very soul of Pantera, and nobody could do them justice.
    Maiden95
I can understand why Vin would feel that way but I think maybe a show or two with Zakk and a bunch of other guitarists as a fundraiser would be a bitchin idea
    js81221
Indeed. Dimebag was a fantastic guitarist and metalhead brother... but Pantera was MORE than just him. He is often too credited. If Rex had died, you know that they would still play a reunion concert.
    Swanny1989
I think if enyone else, Vinnie Paul should play drums for Black Sabbath! I know that's kind of random but I just wanted to throw that in there, cuz I'm a big fan of both Sabbath and Pantera.
    RockInPeaceDime
Oh what the **** -.- People think Vinnie declines these things to "preserve the sacred name of his brother." He does it because he still has petty hatred toward Phil for saying dumb shit while high as ****...pretty simple.

Get kerry king to fill in. Kerry used to play on stage with pantera a while back. at least kerry wouldn't be squealing every 5 seconds. Zakk ruined "Bark At the moon" for me.

Are you all smoking crack ****ing cocaine? This is ZAKK WYLDE we are talking about here!!! "No More Tears", remember that? It only has one of the greatest guitar solos EVER thrown down... hell, at least in the past 25 years. I don't hear other mutha****ers going half the speed that this cat flies on the six strings, and has been doing for DECADES!!! I saw that guy rock out the baddest live guitar solo with my own eyes once so I don't need to hear the HOT AIR coming from your MUD FLAPS on the subject of a dude who is clearly the greatest living guitar player, you lames! How the **** can ANY OF YOU get off coming on here spouting all this BULLSHIT about a MAN you wouldn't have the BALLS to even say hello to!! Zakk was Dime's best ****ing friend, man!! They loved each other LIKE GODDAMN FUCKING BROTHERS!!!!! Just like Philip and Vinnie loved each other like brothers at one time, this shit is the kinda SHIT all ****ing BROTHERS go through!!! So shut the FUCK UP about how this reunion/tribute idea is disrespectful cause they are gonna 'replace Dime and reform Pantera'. Again, are YOU retarded? Maybe YOU should READ what the ****ing Facebook cause is about!!!! And like the one comment said, if you don't want to go to the show, stay the **** home! To say that Zakk and a bevy of other guitar legends (Ace Frehley, Eddie Van Halen, Buckethead, Phil Demmel, Jerry Cantrell, Slash, etc..)couldn't pay Dime's songs some respect in a night of reunion between the surviving members is the most STUPID ASS THING I HAVE EVER FUCKING HEARD IN MY LIFE!! Now, how do you ALL like them apples? Long live CFH!!!!
Just because YOU use capital LETTERS does not make your POST anymore correct. YOU talk like you know SOMETHING that other people DON'T. YOU were not there. You do not KNOW the depth of Zakk and DIMES relationship. IN fact I would GUESS that you know no more than any other ****er here. So get off your pompous high horse, learn a little respect and understand that just cos you say something doesn't MAKE it right. Or are you retarded? And btw, Zakk isn't that awesome.

I don't think he turned it down because of Zakk. He turned it down because the idea of a Pantera reunion is laughable with anyone BUT Dime. It just shouldn't happen. As was previously mentioned though, a tribute would be pretty cool.
    rokr258
I'm not totally in favor of a reunion. I think Pantera as we remember them are perfect. That said, if anyone is going to fill in for Dime, it should be Zakk Wylde.

I cringe when I see rumors of Pantera "reuniting." Especially with Zakk on guitar. Dime's guitar tone and playing was a huge part of Pantera, and he can't be replaced by anyone. Even for a one off show.
    Jugulator_cro
Saying "NO DIME NO PANTERA OMG OMG" is just retarded because Pantera would never reunite in the true sense of the word. If there would be a reunion it would certainly be a one show only or something minimal like that, and would serve as a tribute to their music. Kinda like Dimebash, plus the guys and more top notch guests.
    RATMfan420
I'm not big on Pantera, but them without Dimebag is like having Rage Against the Machine without Tom Morello. Can NOT be done. Cant. Just....NO!
    rmp0012002
There is no Pantera without Dime so move on. A tribute to honor the man yes, reunion never. Dimefest?

Can't agree more. A horrible idea to say the least. Phil, the other half of the soul of Pantera is the one that completely ruined it, Vinnie has moved on to greener pastures, he's doing fine, Rex....well, I dunno, he lucked out being able to play with those guys. FORGET it. Pantera is DEAD but sure as HELL not forgotten.

So the smart thing to do is to sweep it under the rug and ignore it for the rest of our lives then, right? People worried about 'tarnishing' panteras legacy need to wake the hell up and realize what they actually mean to metal music in general. You can't ruin Pantera because there IS NO pantera now, what's wrong with watching a cover band with 3 of the original members? idiots...
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself that maybe the remaining member of Pantera care, hence, why the keep laughing these reunion/tribute ideas off? It's pretty clear you're on the outside of the logic bubble looking in.
    p_a_morgan
Whether or not you believe the band 'would sound good' with Zakk or not, think about the remaining members of Pantera and their emotions. Especially Vinnie. If you were sitting behind a kit and watched your biological brother get murdered several feet in front of you, you'd probably never want to be on a stage ever again, much less with someone else filling in for your late brother. I understand Vinnie's decision, completely.

Its not just that. The guy misses his brother (as anyone would) and though a concert would be a good tribute, playing Dime's songs without him actually there would probably be tough. I would those songs to be put to rest if it were me.
    IWasMaiden93
It's not a reunion... That's like calling Rebel Meets Rebel a Pantera album - Phil... It could be a charity thing or a tribute, but a Pantera reunion? That's asking for trouble

NEVER NEVER NEVER PLEASE VINNIE show that somethings are still more sacred than money. NO REUNION under the name PANTERA EVER....it would be a disgrace to Dime. no one can ever replace him ....this would not be a tribute it would be bending over for that all mighty dollar. VINNIE PLEASE STICK TO YOUR GUNS....no amount of money is enough. PRIDE IS PRICELESS

lol all this 'don't do it it wouldn't be pantera' clearly you care more about your status and image as 'fans' than about the actual music. I would love to see other artist's take on pantera. And I personally don't think Dime would have a problem with his good friend Zakk Wylde tributing him. Although the name Pantera wouldn't be too great to use, maybe under a different moniker.
Not even sure what that first parts actually means, but people will say anything, and I have no doubt that you actually believe that. That people who don't want to see a Pantera non-reunion are doing it for their 'image'. Tbh, you sound like what you describe. Clearly you care more about your own needs as a listener than what the band might actually care to do, or any concept of integrity.

Alright, here's the common sense; There will never be a Pantera reunion. Mostly because one of the band's members is dead, and last time I checked, not many deceased musicians are allowed to come back to life just to play a reunion tour that likely wouldn't have happened even if he WERE still alive. And Vinnie's an ***** because he had no interest in the idea? Give me a break. If you think your desire to see Pantera play live again is more valid than the emotional scars of a man whose brother was shot to death in front of him on stage, there is something genuinely wrong with you.
