The 2007 incarnation of Joe Satriani's popular G3 tour will kick off on March 14th in Phoenix starring Satriani, John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert. The tour will play selected dates in North America throughout March and April. The starting tour itinerary follows with more dates TBA shortly.

The 2007 tour marks the 5th North American G3 run and the 12th G3 tour worldwide since its inception. The first G3 tour, featuring Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai, played to sold-out crowds throughout October and November, 1996 and was followed by successful treks in Europe, South America, Japan and Australia. The most recent North American G3 tour, in 2003, showcased Satriani, Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen and was documented in the platinum DVD G3 Live in Denver. Other platinum DVD's include the 1996 run and the 2005 Japanese tour with Vai and Petrucci.

Satriani stated simply, "I can't wait to hit the stage with John and Paul, they are two of the scariest, most amazing players I've ever heard!"

Continuing with the same successful formula as in years past, fans will be treated to individual sets by each guitarist with their own bands before joining Satriani and his band on stage for an all-star jam session. As with previous G3 tours, special guest guitarists will be invited to join the jam at select dates around the country. Past guests have included Neal Schon, Gary Hoey, George Lynch, Billy Gibbons, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Fripp and Brian May.

Satriani started G3 so he's going to be in all of them barring some kind of unforseen cicumstances. I like Vai, but I think I would enjoy this lineup more. Also, I like how the mods had the first 3 posts this time lol. I'm surprised they didn't claim their post positions

How much crack have you smoked today? No one man is G3, hence why it is called "G3"...and if one man was G3 it would be Satch on account of the fact that he began it and he is the only one to have come back every time. Also Vai is working on a new album this year, so that's why he won't be with G3...at least for the time being.

Petrucci and gilbert will probably blend great, im pretty sure they've played together before, besdies, they both were featured in an issue of guitar one a few months back, im fairly sure they'll mix well.

Shame Vai isn't gonna be there this year. But Satch and Gilbert are my two favourite (shred) guitarists, so that's fine. Not so keen on Pet, but more not on Dream Theatre than the guy himself. Should be good fun.

some people have different tastes, i would never fastforward through yngwie malmsteen's performances, unless there was a song i simply just hated, dose that answer your question?

I wish I had seen Mr. Scary when he joined them. Anyway, kick @$$ Im glad for Paul, hes very good. And yes its gonna be wierd not seeing Vai in there. I wonder if there was some kind of disagreement or if its just other commitments.

Isn't Vai on tour with someone else for these dates? and he's going to join up against after the North American leg of the tour. I'm not sure who he is replacing though.

Noway there will be a G3 without satch,it would be like playing guitar without a guitar. I'd also prefer Vai to Petrucci.

Wow, imagine if it was steve vai instead of petrucci. Gilbert/ Sheehan reunion!... but it remains to just be in my dreams.

Steve Vai not playing at G3? Can't be... But those three are amazing.. It would be strange to see G3 without vai, don't you guys think?

Vai's the best bit Satriani is up there. I saw him last year at the Les Paul 90th birthday celebration. He was shredding on like a les paul junior. haha. hes awesome. Petrucci and Gilbert are great too
