Periphery Guitarist Jake Bowen: The Worst Day Job I Ever Had
4

Periphery guitarist Jake Bowen was asked by The Metal Teddy Bear Experience about the worst job he ever had, to which he replied (transcribed by UG):

"There is this chain of gas stations/convenience stores in upstate New York - I was a merchandiser for one of the districts.

"I've never worked in anything like that and I just realized I was just not cut out for that kind of work. If I get treated badly by a customer, I have an attitude. I'm not a good customer service guy."

He concluded: "That was actually the only job I ever got fired from. It was a good thing 'cause right after I got fired I got an offer to join Periphery back in 2006. So it really worked out."

Customer service is biting your tongue for a living. Not much fun being pleasant and accommodating to people who deserve a smack in the mouth, but it beats digging ditches.

I'd rather dig the ditch to be honest. Not so great at biting my tongue, but I can dig the fuck out of a hole

You have no idea how many times I've apologized for someone's own stupidity. Being a server can be really rewarding and really tolling at the same time...

The amount of vile hatred I hold back for the truly shitty people I have to deal with at my job is enough to make Cannibal Corpse blush.
