Progressive Music Awards 2014 Nominees Announced
132
Prog Magazine announces its third annual Progressive Music Awards presented by Orange Amplification.

The 2014 awards will be hosted at the prestigious Underglobe, beneath Shakespeare's Globe Theatre on Thursday September 11, and hosted for the third time by one of the world's most respected news broadcasters and journalist Gavin Esler.

Transatlantic and Dream Theater lead the way with four nominations each and go head-to-head in three categories - Album of the Year, Band/Artist of the Year and the Storm Thorgerson Grand Design Award. Meanwhile, last year's Prog God winner Ian Anderson is nominated for three awards, as is Anathema, Haken, ex-Marillion singer Fish and Bigelf.

Jerry Ewing, Prog Magazine Editor, says, "I think more than ever, the depth of quality of the music from the wide spread of artists represented in this year's nominations both further enhance the fact that progressive music is flourishing and, perhaps more pertinently, progressing as a force in the modern day musical world. It's been great to see the Progressive Music Awards help convey the progressive message to the masses whilst simultaneously allowing the faithful to rightly celebrate their deserving heroes."

I love Dev but he hasnt really done much over the last year for him to be in these awards. He had the casualties thing but that was maybe too recent and maybe not prog enough and not strictly just Devin Townsend either. 2015 will be his year Z2 later this year and an epic ziltoid live show early next year.

Haven't heard most of these - yet - but I was quite impressed with Haken's "The Mountain" album.

Same I reckon Road Of Bones will win best album though, seeing as so many people seem to like it :L

Transatlantic and DT up for the same categories -,Its going to be awkward... FFS I wish DT and Portnoy could patch it up regardless of a reunion.....Such is life. Some awesome acts on the lists for sure.

there's no bad blood there. they still all like each other.

I dunno - Ive read a fair amount stuff in regards to tension between Portnoy and Labrie/Myung. MP and JLB did have a kinda-public-feud not too long after he left. They aren't on talking terms... :/

They're not on talking terms because MP wouldn't stop f*cking whining about how he left DT and wanted to come back (despite the fact that he knew they already had a new drummer for quite a few months)...

As far as I know, there's still good contact between MP and Jordan, but no idea about the Johns, and I'm quite sure the biggest tension was between Mike and James.

65DaysOfStatic, Ian Anderson, King Crimson, Yes, Rush, Pink Floyd... Yeah sure man, they suck....

Having to choose between Dream Theater and Anathema... I did the only thing reasonable and gave two votes to each.

Good to see Coshish, from India! That's a definite first, I believe. Hope they do win.

For me, the album of the year is Kaleidoscope, The Mountain is really great too! I would not pick Dream Theater even though I am a big DT fan, LOL!!!

Would really like to see Ian Anderson get the award of the best life event. Went to the Thick As A Brick tour with my dad and it was a really really special experience.

On a bit of a random note, check out Ruan Graaff's 'Lidelse' on iTunes. Amazing player and amazing prog metal. Very Animals as Leaders.
