Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe has hailed Indonesia's new president, bona fide metalhead Joko Widodo.

As Metal Hammer notes, Widodo - known by his nickname Jokowi - was elected this week and it has prompted Lamb of God frontman Blythe to pen a blog on the "world's first heavy metal president."

On his Instagram page, Blythe says: "Incredibly, ladies and gentlemen, the new President of Indonesia is a metal head and a Lamb of God fan. No, this is not a joke. Yes he digs Napalm Death, Metallica, Megadeth and Lamb of God amongst others - holy crap.

"The world's first heavy metal president. Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo, the governor of Jakarta and former furniture salesman who was born into poverty, has won the election.

"I do not know much at all about Indonesian politics, so I can't comment of their political situation one way or the other, but from what I can tell, Jokowi seems to be a man of the people.

"Wow. A metal head president- who would have thought? Amazing. This is the only president in the world with whom you can sit down and argue about which Slayer record is the best."

Blythe goes on to angle for an invite to Indonesia to hang out with the new president.

I found out recently that a director at work goes to metal shows.. older NWOBHM stuff, thought it was cool as you'd never expect it from him! look at him in a more positive light now
I'm a Director at my place of work, and my ride just showed to take me to the BLS show in ATL. It takes all kinds. \m/
I work at the Department Of Public Safety in New Mexico. We see a lot of cops, and one day I was wearing my Sabbath shirt, a state cop happened to stop me in the hallway to have a conversation about which was better: the Ozzy years of Sabbath or the Dio years. Completely caught me off guard.
I happen to know quite a few cops in my area. Only a handful of them DON'T listen to metal. \m/
Since when music taste have made people better persons?
    who even said that?
Nffc191 to an extent. " look at him in a more positive light now" - which means that after he found out the director likes metal, he likes him more.
which doesn't say that he thinks he's a better person. just that he likes him more.
Doesn't necessarily make them a better person, but having things in common with people makes it a lot easier to get on with them.
Let's just hope he doesn't mess stuff up as Indonesia has a few problems, if things go badly he would stigmatize metal fans culturally and people around the world would point to the failures of one to stifle the many. However, after a quick bit of research he seems to have done some interesting things that worked quite well, so \m/ and hopefully he will be an example that metal heads are not socially inept or evil in any way.
I know that i'm gonna get downvoted for saying this, but as a indonesian person who lives in jakarta (the province which he governs right now before becoming the president), jokowi is a really terrible governor. Not many people know about this, but what he has done to Jakarta is really a failure, he made property tax increased 4 times, 4 TIMES!!! He failed to manage his own province's budget by locating it on a wrong section without being able to keep the budget in balance so our province's budget became unstable, so in change, the citizens have to pay more tax to cover it. I really hope that when he becomes the president, he learns how to use the country's budget well or he will lead Indonesia to impending doom.
this is cool and all, but just like obama being the 1st black president.....thats one! 40 plus white guys and were even?.....call me when the majortiy of presidents are metalheads
I've actually been to one of Indonesia's biggest metal festivals (and this is a festival of hardcore/death metal stuff, with bands such as Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, and Dyscarnate), and I saw him amongst the audience. I am one of the few peoples in the world that is able to say "I've moshed with a president".
That's how I felt my junior year in high school. New English teacher transferred in, and the first day in his class, I walk in... and he's playing Slayer's "Show No Mercy" album. In a town of 3,000 people it was both surprising, and amazing.
Wait doesn't Obama like metal too, maybe not at the same level as Joko Wikodo. Just imagine them moshing together. It would be a beautiful sight.
Obama seems to be more into hip-hop and jazz and a bit more of a variety. But as I said on the other article about this new president, Dmitry Medvedev was also a noted fan of hard rock and metal (specifically singling out Black Sabbath and Deep Purple), and, well, look at how Russia's being run... Again, just because the guy's a metalhead doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna be a great leader. Russia still lacks a free press, still goes to war at the drop of a hat, and their former president (who was only "elected" to legitimize Putin's return later) and current prime minister was a metalhead too. This guy is probably better than Medvedev and Putin though.
