Sharon Osbourne says she tried to keep husband Ozzy apart from Motley Crue singer Vince Neil while the bands toured together in 1984 because she didn't want her man to end up dead like Hanoi Rocks drummer Razzle even though the tour ended nine months before the car crash.
In his new biography, Tattoos & Tequila, Neil slates Sharon for getting in the way of his relationship with the Prince of Darkness while the Crue supported him on his Bark at the Moon US tour.
Neil admits Ozzy was out of control during the tour, stealing bags, wearing dresses and snorting ants; but he believes Sharon blamed Motley Crue and took severe reprisals. He writes: "All fun screeched to a halt. We were only allowed one case of beer and bringing girls backstage was verboten. We couldn't do this and couldn't do that. We had t-shirts made up saying, 'No Fun Tour '84'. Even Ozzy's people were wearing them.
"This is the most evil, sh-ttiest woman I've ever met in my life. She would have you killed if it was to her advantage. If people really knew"
Sharon has responded by pointing out that Neil really did kill someone: Razzle died and two passengers in another car were seriously injured while the singer was drunk driving.
She says that's why she tried to keep Ozzy away from Neil but the Bark at the Moon tour finished in March 1984, while the fatal accident took place the following December.
Sharon says in a statement: "I was saddened to hear about the quote from Vince Neil's book. Vince, of course I tried to keep my husband away from you at all costs. I truly felt you were a danger to Ozzy, yourself and everyone around you.
"I didn't want him to end up like Razzle, who died in a car accident because you were driving drunk; or like those two innocent people whose lives were ruined as a result of your actions.
"Today I see you as a pathetic 50-year-old party boy who continues to put innocent people's lives at risk by getting behind the wheel and driving drunk, and being arrested for assaulting women. Enough said."
Sharon also adds, "My husband called him and said, 'What's the problem?' and (Neil) kind of back-tracked. (It's) a case of 'I need names in this book. I need to shock.' It is sad when people do that. They want to sell you out. I think he is probably very jealous of Ozzy, but he dare not pick on him because the fans will turn on him, so he goes after me."
Neil is currently being investigated for an alleged assault on a woman in a Las Vegas hotel, despite reports from the hotel that security cameras suggest the incident didn't take place. Neil will appear in court at the end of the month in relation to his latest DUI charge, after he was caught three times over the limit in Vegas in June.
