Slash has been honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame by the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollywood Blvd.

His place on the legendary sidewalk was handed to him by actor Charlie Sheen, who has known the guitarist since the 1980s.

"It's quite fitting that Slash is getting a star on the very street Axl Rose will one day be sleeping on," quipped Sheen. "This star is going to be stepped on more than the coke we did in the Eighties."

Other guest speakers at the ceremony included his friend Robert Evans, the film producer, and radio host Jim Ladd, according to Grateful Web.

Slash and his bandmate Myles Kennedy treated guests to an exclusive acoustic performance inside the Hard Rock Cafe, followed by a Q&A session.

In addition to the Walk of Fame honor, Slash was then named by Time magazine as the No. 2 guitarist of all time, one place behind Jimi Hendrix.

Slash's latest solo album "Apocalyptic Love" was released in May. His band continue to tour the west coast, and will start a new run of dates starting in San Diego on September 4.

It's Time magazine, not exactly the place I'd go to for a "best guitarists" list

Chances are that anybody's drug dealer was once Sheen's. Jokes apart, I'm glad that Slash's clean for quite some time now.

2 words... NOVEMBER RAIN... Slash may not be the fastest or craziest shredder on the planet but hes my kind of player, soulful, bluesy and melodic. Haters are gonna hate but Slash is incredible.

One behind Hendrix? I mean, Slash is one of my favourite guitarists and he's bloody good, but not THAT kinda good.

Charlie Sheen, from here on out, will be reffered to as The Boss. Now lets just wait and see Axl's reaction.

i find it odd that people say slash's playing is overrated, then still say hendrix was the best ye, hendrix was a good musician, but his guitar skills were far from amazing im gonna get so much hate for this....

Prince is very underrated as a guitarist by most people, at least Time recognized his talent (although top 10 is pushing it...). As for George Harrison being better than BB King, Keith Richards, and Eric Clapton, Slash is a more understandable pick imo. George was a better songwriter than instrumentalist, as were the rest of the Beatles.

A lot of people need to learn the difference between playing fast and playing well.

you know what? all of the guitarists that people have mentioned who are supposedly better than slash have exactly the same weaknesses as him. hasnt anyone here bothered to sit down and listen to or watch slash's solos on tour, or his guitar work in the new album? i mean, just watch made in stoke, the solo/godfather theme is incredible. and yet it rolls so easily off the tongue for people. "slash isnt techincally brilliant, but..." give me a F***ING break. So you look at metal guitarists who like the whole, "you wont even know what's going on" guitar speed thing. Sweep, Sweep, Tap, Tap, etc. My question is, once you perfect those things (which countless people have done), how difficult is it to incorporate those things into a metal guitar solo? i'd say not very, when it's the only thing you care about. and every guitar player in the world who's stopped and thought "you know, i want more from my music than that" has been ripped into by the UG community for it. be honest, Slash is a riff machine. his ability to sound so clearly like himself on every single track he's ever played on, in every style he's ever played, is unbelievable. And, if you're so desperate to have him out of the top 5 or even top 10, you better think long and hard about the guys that keep being mentioned here as better guitar players. stevie ray vaughan was a great player, but just like many of the great blues players before him, a lot of his music was built upon the same foundations as each other. it worked, it was great... it's nowhere close to what slash has done. jimmy page, before anyone mentions him, was sloppy as hell, short of ideas when it came to soloing, and im pretty sure he stole a handful of riffs from other musicians. eddie van halen, yea, he made shredding cool, but did he really do anything else with a guitar that's going to live on? and i've never heard eric clapton push any kind of "technical boundaries" in all the years he's been playing, yet hes still brought up as better. Slash is a faster player surely than eric clapton, and isnt that what everyone keeps saying slash's flaw is? I dont know, but it definitely seems to me as if Slash literally has done everything to merit that kind of recognition. and if he hasnt, then no one has.

Stevie Ray Vaughan blows Slash out of the water in every capacity imaginable as far as guitar goes. But he's not on the list either. Or at least not the top 5.

N.2 skill wise, well i agree not. But does the "best guitarist" really only mean how fast you can make shit out from your guitar. To think how many classic riffs slash has written over the years. We all know the best ones and they never get old, imo thats what being good guitarist is.

I think Slash is the product of many great guitarists before his time, ultimately its subjective about who you personally think is the best although most people seem to agree on hendrix. I personally think Slash is the best since hendrix but thats my opinion. He plays his music from the heart which for me creates the best music (coming from any musician) rather than playing notes for notes sake and or playing fast for the sake of it. I personally think the likes of clapton and Eddie V H slightly overrated but dont get me wrong cos I love their music too. I think people often mistake technicality for musicianship which is wrong as scales and arpegios are the building blocks of music in the same way that bricks and mortar make a house, whereas the inside deccor is what makes a house a home. Its the same with musicianship and the artists individuality.

Dewitt... Seriously the album is shit??? You must have shit for ears then...

I respect what Slash has done in the biz, just find his playing ability to be a bit overrated.
    Riggy
I personally wouldn't put any of Time's top 5 in a list of 'Best Guitar Players Evarrr.' Most influential? Sure, but it probably wouldn't go much further than that. The day someone manages to successfully quantify what makes 'the best guitarist', is the day you can actually have a valid list of who's the best. So, never then. Grats to Slash for getting on Walk of Fame thing, been a long time coming.

haven't really visited UG much in the past year or two, but i see that people still hate when slash gets major props and people still love bashing axl lmao. love slash, always been my biggest influence, back when everyone my age was diggin the nu metal age. might not be breaking technical barriers by any means, but that doesn't mean he can't inspire others and rock out with the best of em. why do people gotta be so defensive when people make top 10/20/100/5 lists? it's all opinion.
    kill it
very awesome. he's a great musician and deserves this. melody and feel will always beat technique. he does however rip on the paradise city outro.

Axl Rose really needed the celeb slam. I don't care if he isn't an amazing guitarist, he definetly is a guitar hero. If kids recognize him fairly well and he's cool in their books and stuff, then he's a guitar hero.

Typical comments section on how Slash is overrated. Since when should music be measured on a scale of one to ten? Who's the best at this who's the best at that? MUSIC IS FOR YOUR OWN ENJOYMENT. Anything you say about the ability of a musician is opinion. I ****ing love Slash. TO ME he is my favourite guitarist and THE BEST at playing music III like to listen to. Can we not just agree that he's ****ing good at what he does and not try to compare musicians like they're up for comparison, like any of them give a **** what you think? This community is so damn predictable. It's like you've all forgotten what musics for.

Slash is the best guitarist ever. Why? Because he wrote some of the worlds most famous riffs and happens to be the coolest musician alive. He's iconic. Who would you rather aspire to be? Coolest ****er in the world or fat swedish guy who don't want no freakin donuts but can widdle very quickly? Sweep picks don't get chicks!

Ummm what!? George Harrison was a multi instrumentalist as were the rest of the beatles, so since Slash pretty much only plays guitar I'd assume that makes all The Beatles better instrumentalists as they all played more than one. Well besides Ringo as far as I know.

slash deserves to be named one of the best , hes as influential as hendrix , Certainly for me the reason i picked up the guitar was after listening to apptite for destruction when i was a kid , i know theres thousands of others who done the same. "best" doesn't need to mean fast but he does what he does very well and he deserves it.
