Slash Says Corey Taylor 'Didn't Fit Right' For Velvet Revolver

According to a recent interview with Voterix.com in Buenos Aires, legendary ex-Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is claiming that, contrary to the popular rumors, Velvet Revolver is not recording with Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor. In the interview, Slash addressed the Taylor rumors, stating: "Because of the social networking, and the way that information gets out so quickly now... We did work with Corey Taylor, and as soon as that rumor [got around], next thing you know, everybody is saying Corey's the new singer. And all we were doing was just rehearsing with him and trying him out - auditioning him, so to speak. So, in order to do that, our process is to... we take a lot of music that we wrote and we give it to him and he writes his lyrics and he comes in and we just perform it and record it and see [what it sounds like]. It's just an audition process; it's the way that we do it. So he did come in and do all that. But I just wasn't... It just didn't seem to fit right to me. And he's great - and I love Corey - but it didn't seem like the answer to the Velvet Revolver problem." According to Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan, recordings were made of the Taylor rehearsal sessions. McKagan seems to support Taylor's involvement in Velvet Revolver, recently telling Music Radar: "We recorded a bunch of songs with Corey. I think he's f--king great. Whether he's in Velvet Revolver or not... I think he's the best voice of a new generation. The best rock 'n' voice out there. He's got a lot of positive energy. I'd be proud to do anything with him." McKagan briefly addressed the timetable for Velvet Revolver reforming and finding a new singer, saying: "But the truth is... I can't see Velvet Revolver happening till fall, maybe. Slash is touring, I'm just starting to tour... We'll just see. I just don't have an answer. I don't." Slash plans to make a new solo record in 2011, and Duff McKagan plans to tour with his band, "Loaded". Corey Taylor is touring with Stone Sour and Slipknot this summer, and has recently been spotted sporting an "I am not the new singer in Velvet Revolver" T-shirt.

I had heard people saying this before the whole Corey Taylor rumor, and I wasn't exactly onboard with it. But then, I listened to Contraband again, and I realized he'd be a damn good fit after listening to Big Machine and Sucker Train Blues. Plus...honestly, I think A7X should just quit. Nightmare was good, but I don't think they can go out and do another record. Maybe I'm wrong?
    You're wrong.

Hmm. Something tells me they should just forget about Velvet Revolver all together. I think everybody is sick of hearing about it. Why does it take 4 years to find a singer? Just call it a day.

Cant say I didn't see this coming I hope they release the Corey Taylor + Velvet Revolver recordings somewhere, somehow!! would be awesome to hear that

FUCK NO, he's got a horrible voice. good singer probably. its just horrible sound of his voice that really makes him like Fall out Boy or AFI's lead singers

Lol He is actually a very good singer. Comparing him to fob or afi is stupid.

I still think they should go with the dude from Rev Theory, but then again I also think that Velvet Revolver is pretty much done for at this point.

first of all i disagree with that statement. but we're all entitled to our opinions. secondly, it doesn't matter whether he's the greatest vocalist of all time or not, if your musical styles don't mesh well you're not gonna create good music. it's as simple as that.

Corey was apparently the best option they had so far. Your my inspiration Slash, but right here your being a dumbass and disrespectful to your fans.

all this bs makes me wonder if axl REALLY was the problem, or was it just slash being a diva...

That's really true.
tbh thats not totally true-its only been like more recently ever since he started doing solo stuff so overall i'd say Dave Kushner is the only one who doesn't get interviewed.....and he never does.....i'd be interesting to hear something from him.

Slash is trying to show up Axl Rose. I'll be looking forward to the new album in ten years

Sorry to disappoint you, but that's exactly who Slash is looking for. A recognizable voice that fits well with his music. Whenever he makes his decision, we'll all know the singer he picks by name and reputation. Why do you think Corey was rumored for so long?

slash is unique and he has got something in his mind.. i think he wanted to mix the new age with his old school..

I could accept that opinion except that you need to hear a lot of Stone Sour's songs to really see the other side of Corey Taylor. He has a much smoother and softer side as a vocalist that you don't see almost at all from his work with Slipknot. You won't regret checking out SS a bit more thoroughly.

I know he's not the new singer but personally, I think if he was going to be they may aswell start an entirely new band. He doesn't have that same personality as Weiland did. Velvet Revolver is a rock and roll band, Corey Taylor is too dark of a person. What I'm getting at is, VR fits with a singer whos scrawny, does a lot of drugs and has the "I don't give two f***'s" attitude. Scott Weiland was perfect. Maybe they should just throw Izzy Stradlin on vocals and see how it goes!

i'm glad. they're musical styles didn't seem similar enough for me. it seemed like the wrong decision. good for them to not compromise on what they're looking for. it'll take time but im sure they'll find their guy and be back better than ever. Lol at Corey's tshirt though.
