California stoner rock icons Sleep have announced a string of concert dates for a short North American tour this summer.
Sleep reunited in 2009 after a 12 year hiatus, playing two shows at a summer UK music festival. The success of those shows resulted in a set of sold-out tour dates in September 2010, and prompted the band to continue touring in 2011.
The planned tour consists of just 3 dates, including a show in New York, a performance at Calgary, AB's Sled Island Music and Arts Festival, and a final show in Los Angeles.
During Sleep's lengthy hiatus, guitarist Matt Pike formed the San Francisco heavy metal band High On Fire, while bassist Al Cisneros and drummer Chris Hakius went on to form the experimental rock band Om.
In celebrating the band's return, The New York Times referred to the trio as "excellent" and The Chicago Tribune called Sleep "stoner-rock titans."
