Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan: 'I Will Never Reform The Original Line-Up'

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has admitted that he will "never reform" the band's original line-up. The group broke up after releasing their "Machina II: The Friends & Enemies Of Modern Music" album in 2000, although by that point Melissa Auf Der Maur had replaced D'Arcy Wretzky on bass. Corgan has continued with with a different line-up since the band returned in 2007. Drummer Jimmy Chamberlin was originally involved in the reunion, but has since left, leaving Corgan as the only original member. "That's [reforming] is just one of those things that are never going to happen", he said. "The things that have happened between us in the interim haven't been good", he continued. "There's been lawsuits and lots of stupid stuff. It's only made it worse. If it was bad before, it's really bad now." While the singer admitted he would happily team up with Chamberlin again, he said he could never bury the hatchet with some of the other members. "There's not super bad blood between me and Jimmy that we'd never get on stage again", Corgan told Rolling Stone. "But I cannot in any way, shape, or form ever envision standing on a stage, playing music again with [ex-guitarist] James [Iha] and D'Arcy. I just don't see any situation where that would be possible." The singer's comments come after he previously said it was wrong to split the band. Smashing Pumpkins are set to reissue their 1993 album "Siamese Dream" plus their 1991 debut "Gish" and 1994's rarities collection "Pisces Iscariot". Thanks for the report to NME.com.

Mr. Corgan, if Dave Mustaine can bury the hatchet with Lars, James and Dave Ellefson, I think you could do the same with D'Arcy and James.

As much as I love the pumpkins (except mellon collie), billy really makes me want to hate this band. Also, since when is james in APC???

Well, ten years ago he said he would never perform under the name 'Smashing Pumpkins' again, or even sing SP songs. Having said that, he was always in control anyway. By being able to pick and choose the musicians he works with, he's probably better off anyway.

Jimmy and Billy have many times said it was Iha and D'Arcy on those albums.
Are you even a Pumpkins fan? Every Pumpkins fan knows Corgan recorded pretty much all of Siamese Dream bar the drums, and on Mellon Collie while they did more, Corgan still did most of the work.

I think Mr. Corgan should just drop it and grow up.getting a little old for this kinda of Immaturity.

I like the new line up, but they'll never be as good as the original line up. Even when Melissa Auf Der Maur was playing bass, I wasn't into that line up and I'm a huge MAdM fan! I think Iha and D'arcy deserve way more credit then they get tbh...

When the comparative sales of 90's SP re-issues to 2011 new material are actualized, Billy will eat these words. Here's hoping the Pistachio Medley songs are released next year.

eh? James and Darcy only ever recorded very few parts on Siamese Dream and Mellon collie (about 5%), every other record was just billy and jimmy.

I don't really mind D'arcy and James (Although Jame's was terribally underrated) but PLEASE get Jimmy back!

I don't think this comes as a surprise to anyone. Personally I've accepted this years ago already, I'm just happy Billy's still making music. Teargarden's sounding pretty promising so far.

The only one I would care to see back is Jimmy...Not a big fan of D'Arcy or James...but the new drummer is pretty damn good!! Long Live The Mighty SP!!

Sorry bill, the band was better back then. Loved the first 4 albums, but after that it turned to shit. Maybe it was because of your ego pissing everyone off!

Whatever... D'Arcy, James or not, I'm still a big fan of the pumpkins. Though I am digging the new drummer I'd really like to see Jimmy come back.

James has been in APC since Thirteenth Step. even if billy wants to reunite the original line-up,i dont even think James and Darcy would even want to be in the same room with billy.
