Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has said that his band will never bow to external pressure and become "a nostalgia act". The band are currently gearing up for the release of their new studio album "Oceania", which is due out next year, and Corgan has said that his band will never give in to pressure from industry folk or fans and do a tour which is simply based around their classic material. He told Kerrang!: "The Pumpkins won't be a nostalgia act, we refuse to be. That would be the true death of the Smashing Pumpkins. I've said to people in the business we won't go out and make money by playing 'Siamese Dream' in full. We're not operating with that safety net. That isn't an option. That's off the table". Corgan also spoke about the original demise of the Smashing Pumpkins and said that he never wanted to abandon the band, just some of their old line-up. He added: "I never wanted to leave the Smashing Pumpkins in the first place. I wanted to leave some of the people, but not the band. I tried a bunch of different projects and they were interesting, but they weren't satisfying. The Pumpkins is only thing I've ever found in music that gives me the passion I need. When I wasn't doing it, I didn't really know what I was doing". Smashing Pumpkins have just completed a full UK tour and are strongly rumoured to be in line to play a number of European festivals next summer. Thanks for the report to NME.com.

The new stuff isn't bad at all, and I saw the "new" band about a year ago and they played a good amount of old material. Obviously they are going to play a lot of new material, but it was probably about 50/50 classics vs. new songs. I didn't see anything to complain about (with the exception of not playing Zero. That was a sin). They did a lot of jamming, but from what I understand, that's what Bill's always done.

Billy, you're right. Better play Melon Collie in full instead.

Looks like I'm not the only SP fan who is annoyed by Billys behavior. Billy, people want you to be a nostalgia act for a reason. Your old stuff was way better.

I'm definitely open to hearing lots of new stuff. It wouldn't bother me if he never played any of the radio hits like 1979 and such, but I'd like to hear some of the overshadowed songs from previous albums like "X.Y.U" or "stumbleine"

I'm not saying this band is great, but their two best albums are from 93 and 95, and I think people would rather hear the songs they know.

I love the pumpkins but im so SICK of him saying this. Why can't he just find a balance to do both like normal bands do. I mean yeah sure play some new songs off your newer records but why does that mean they have to stop playing their best songs and classic hits. Why can't he find a happy medium in a setlist of playing a bunch of the greats mixed with new songs. So frustrating this guys ego jeez give the people want they want its not all about you. Green Day does this perfectly and they have maybe one of the greatest live shows ever. They continue to stay relevant and not fully nostalgic, and if you see their live shows they will play a lot of new stuff in the beginning but then roll out like 10 classic hits back to back in a row and its amazing! Find a balance billy stop alienating the people who made you relevant. The fans!

People like to complain a lot. Who cares what he plays? If you're into his work than shut up and listen. If not than go watch somebody who does what he's told.
