A mysterious tweet on Sonisphere Festival's official page recently surfaced, confirming that a festival marking 40 years of rock at Knebworth will take place on July 4 through 6.
The event's official website includes the same announcement, but since no indication is given on whether the upcoming festival will actually be held under the Sonisphere moniker, little remains certain regarding the iconic event's return.
"Keep the 4th-6th July 2014 free!" the tweet reads. "Planning a festival to celebrate 40 years of Rock Music at Knebworth."
Sonisphere festival was cancelled last year and didn't take place in 2013 either. Back in 2012, the organizers stated in the official announcement: "It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012. Putting the festival together in what is proving to be a very challenging year was more difficult than we anticipated and we have spent the last few months fighting hard to keep Sonisphere in the calendar."
KISS, Faith No More and Queen were listed as the headliners of what would turn out to be the final Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth. The acts had a hard time selling enough tickets, ultimately leading to the event's cancellation.
