The yet-unnamed supergroup consisting of Soulfly, Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan and Mars Volta members has officially kicked off album recording in Los Angeles and is hoping to get the record released somewhere during 2014.

As Terrorizer reports, legendary Max Cavalera, bassist/singer Troy Sanders of Mastodon, Dilinger vocalist Greg Puciato and former Mars Volta stickman Dave Eilich have joined forces with producer Josh Wilbur, known for his production work on Lamb of God's 2009 effort "Wrath."

"It's going to be cool, we just don't have a name yet, the name is a pain in the a-- to find but the music is great," Cavalera said on his way to the studio. "We have been working on this for two years!"

The fronman explained further, "Greg approached me kinda like how Alex [Newport] approached me to do Nailbomb in that he was really, really trying to get me to do this project. I told him already I was pretty busy doing Soulfly and Cavalera Conspiracy [and] I was not really looking for an extra thing, but he was pretty insistent and then I just gave up and was like 'Let's f--king do this!'"

Several reports previously gave indications of supergroup formation. Now that it's officially been announced, fans anxiously await what kind of metal mix the four-piece can come up with.

"It started with just me and Greg and then we got Dave Elitch he's an amazing drummer and then Greg knew Troy and we asked him to be the bassist so it kind of became a supergroup all of a sudden," Max noted.

"We jammed a couple of times and the last jam we did it sounded killer; the songs are really powerful real heavy. It's hard to describe but I think the coolest thing about this project is that all three of us are going to sing on every song."

Which specific mixture of styles would you like to hear from these guys? Let us know in the comments.

Did you hear that? It's the sound of every Prog Metal fan on the face of the Earth ejaculating simultaneously.
Prog you reckon? I dunno if they have the guitar dept to pull of proper prog, dude plays with only four strings remember? It will be rhythm heavy though. Groovy as all ****
That would be true if any of these bands were making prog metal.
If you don't think Mastodon make prog metal then you haven't heard Crack the Skye. Although Hunter wasn't progressive at all.
Mastodon - Progressive Sludge Metal The Mars Volta - Post-Prog/Latin Rock Soulfly - Groove Metal Dillinger Escape Plan - Mathcore/Prog Metal/Experimental Metal This is going to be interesting.
Prog is just an aspect of Mastodon's music, and the other members don't represent it at all as well. It's highly unlikely the project will be prog at all.
Cool. Now where the **** is Giraffe Tongue Orchestra?
This definitely sounds interesting! Glad to see they have a genuine vocalist in Greg Puciato; no disrespect to Max Cavalera, but I've never been able to get into anything with his vocals on it.
Damn i thought it was one of the main Mars Volta guys, but this still sounds pretty damn interesting.
Kind of hoping for Cedric rather than Greg, never liked his voice. But excited nonetheless.
Cedric has put down some of the most amazing vocal performances of the last decade. But he's a mediocre live singer Also, wasn't Elitch in TMV for like less than a year?
Great lineup, and definitely great music to come... ...but please don't call Elitch the "stickman" for The Mars Volta. He was just a touring drummer that didn't really fit...
In an interview Greg said they wanted to do a little more hardcore sounding stuff, we shall see though...omg im so excited for this
While I've never heard music from Soulfly or Mars Volta, this is intriguing to say the least.
Never heard any Soulfly? I'm not a fan but they were kinda hard to miss some time ago
Am I the only one who already knew about this? I remember someone from an interview saying something about it. Must've been Troy or Greg.
Its sad that we have to read this great new s among Avril Levine One Direction and Korn reports...
So... this is another project entirely from the poorly named 'Metal Allstars' thing? Mr. Cavalera, I love you, but... chill the hell out, man. That's four bands you have on the go now.
