Fans eagerly waiting for Spinal Tap's first tour since 2001 are going to be in for a shock this spring when the three band members will be performing both out-of-character and without electric instruments.

"Actors/Directors/Musicians and Comedy Icons Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer are doing something they have never done before; performing a six week, 30 city multi-media acoustic tour without wigs and electric instruments," the band writes on their Unwigged & Unplugged website.

Unwigged & Unplugged: An Evening with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer will feature music from Spinal Tap's history along with music from A Mighty Wind; another band made up of the Spinal Tap members. "With this being the 25th Anniversary of the film This is Spinal Tap, we thought this would be a fun and at the same time, a little challenging, as we have never performed as ourselves," writes Spinal Tap. "Think of the evening as three old friends jamming in your living room. As opposed to OUR living rooms; we won't be home."

Along with the upcoming tour, the band is hard at work recording a new studio album which will reportedly be released on May 26, according to Billboard.com.

Thats amazing! I just don't understand why there wasn't a Montreal date. Every time they've come to the Just For Laughs festival, they've been treated like kings, and loved and honored by their fans here.
